I just drafted a Resolution for consideration at the City Council session today regarding the increase in the airport terminal fee at the Davao (Bangoy) International Airport.
From Forty Pesos (P 40.00), the Department of Transportation & Communication has mandated the increase to Two Hundred Pesos (P 200.00) or 500 % hike starting today.
This is a clear added burden on passengers and a dis-incentive for travel, which is being promoted by the government.

One Response for "500% hike in airport fee"
hmmmm. maayung buntag councilor pete,
i am not in anyway connected to any airports, but in fairness to said increase, i think its long overdue, although it may add up as an additional burden for the passenger, but we must admit that those who frequent air travels are well-off, i mean they can afford to pay. executives will just charge this terminal fee to their respective company.
our airport is the best airport in southern philipines including the visayas, if you happen to know, mactan airport in cebu i believe is charging 200 pesos, even NAIA ganon then yata. eh mas maganda pa airport natin sa mactan. bakit ganon lang kaliit ang ating kinolekta? you also said that the collected fund goes to ATO national and not the city. its already given (mandated). and have the city given a hand of the 40 pesos fee? di rin naman yata.
I suggest to allow the ATO collect and somehow make them share to the city what they collected.
but i agree with you, dapat my consultation muna. o di kaya notice of public hearing.
other thing, bakit ba tayo magbabayad sa comfort room ng ating mga terminal, the city council should look into this, be it at the airport(parking area)or dyan sa ecoland terminal, a terminal being a business entity in itself, they are required to provide utilities that should make their businesses function and respond to personal and natural essential of its user. the rationale of it is this, fastfood such as jollibee and mcdonald and even Malls have its own CR’s free (as of now), would we allow them to collect payment like what is happening in our terminals?
more power to you
