Hello All,

As we all know, November 14, 2006 is World Usability Day. And here in
the Philippines, we will have an event called User Friendly and it is
a seminar that aims to educate the public what usability is, how to go
about it and why usability is important, even to the average person.

Given the exciting developments in the I.T. industry right now, I know
there are “sexier” fields and communities to be involved in– there’s
blogging, search engine marketing, software development, and graphic
design. You may already be part of such communities, but one untapped
sector in the whole scheme of things is the usability community.

Yes, we do have an online community, but is it enough to move things
forward? Have you actually been in a room full of Filipino usability
professionals and students? Can you actually say that our community is
at par with the communities on web design, software development or
internet marketing currently existing? It’s very likely that your
answer is ‘No’ simply because there has been little effort from our
sector– you and me.

Greg Moreno had something great in mind when he started Usability
Philippines mailing list– and that is to have a place for usability
folks to relate to each other. He has accomplished that objective on
the virtual realm and it is now time to take it to the real world. On
Tuesday, November 14, 2006, is an opportunity for us to let the
Philippine IT industry that we do have a voice and we do have
something important to offer. World Usability Day is our time to shine
as a community.

I am inviting everyone who cares about making a product easy to use
and keeps the user in mind to join the event on Tuesday at The Mob at
Market! Market! at 12noon. Aside from learning from the User Friendly
seminar, let’s all try to get acquainted. Let’s take this time to know
our colleagues from the usability field and take our community to the
next level. Is the Philippine Usability community ready to take that
step?

I do hope so.
