NEW YORK CITY – President Benigno S. Aquino III shuns expensive lunch and instead settles for the cheaper authentic New York hotdog at the corner of Americas Avenue and 45th Street in New York, USA on Thursday (Manila time) Sept. 23, 2010. P-Noy recalled that his family used to eat pizza and chao mien when their family stayed in Boston while his late father former Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. was in exile.

Media responds:

MANILA (AFP) – President Benigno Aquino’s spokesman on Friday defended the Philippine leader’s culinary tastes after newspapers showed him eating hotdogs in New York, where he attended a UN summit.

The 50-year-old bachelor came in for heavy criticism on social networking websites for his street-side food trips.

“Two views here — not presidential or down-to-earth. He loves to eat hotdogs. When in the US you would like to try the hotdogs,” his spokesman Edwin Lacierda told reporters.

MANILA, Philippines – The U.S. government said Sunday it made an “honest mistake” when it displayed an inverted Philippine flag — which wrongfully signified that the Southeast Asian nation was in a state of war — in a meeting hosted by President Barack Obama.

Two Cents…

It is ludicrous to say that this carelessness is a reflection of Obama or the US but you’d think in a convergence of political leaders among nations, with the US as host- someone would put in some attention to detail considering there are only ten, TEN flags to think about!! The ten-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Miriam Defensor Santiago was featured in Correspondents last week.

Flood Problem

Friday
Oct 9,2009

Several articles on the Philippine Daily Inquirer have been talking about the flooding caused by Typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila on Sept 26, 2009 like this one that says nine hours would have made a difference and this one where it says flood forces developers to back off. I especially like this one where Marikina Mayor says they have learned their lessons.

All I can say is, “Ngayon pa!”

While some were still drowning, while some families were still stuck on roofs, while those who were not badly hit were sacrificing their lives to save those who need rescuing and while others were volunteering their energy to provide relief to those who lost almost everything, some of our honorable congressmen and women were busy saving Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, protector of Big Boss Mike Arroyo.

In this article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Malacanang Palace is slamming the media on why they are quibbling over a few thousand dollars when, according to them, GMA has brought in billions of dollars in investments in return.

On the article, it says “Whatever monies may have been spent for the appropriately ceremonious conduct of her official trip abroad are but a tiny fraction of the billions of pesos she has committed, and will continue to commit, to the alleviation of hunger and the amelioration of poverty in our country,” Anthony Golez, a deputy spokesperson of Ms Arroyo, said Thursday, reading from a statement at a media briefing.

The Philippines is Doomed

Tuesday
Mar 31,2009

The Philippines is said to be the only christian country in Asia and I believe it.
I ask myself how many churches are there in the country, i mean catholic churches. I once dream to become a journalist, a photographer or a photo-journalist shooting all churches in the whole country or shooting Pasig river 365 days.

Since Holy Week is around, it is the tradition of Catholics to do the “visitas iglesias”, meaning church visits. I don’t remember how many churches to visit cause i split out with my folks who do this every Holy Week.

And since the election is by next year 2010, church leaders, preachers and gurus are also preparing for the upcoming election. The “mario brothers” of JIL and El Shaddai are bonding for the 2010 election.
Catholics and the rest of the other “born again” gurus plus the “sects”  were all politically concern, “for the people, by the people….” and other reasons, alibis and philosophies they shout about-That religion must intervene with politics for the sake of the people specially now with the upcoming election.

The last election proves the connection between politics and religion, cause a few of catholic leaders won the election and now have a position in the government. Governor elect Eddie Panlilio was in hot seat at the start of the year and now, Mr. Eddie Villanueva of the JIL (Jesus Is Lord) has announced its political plans.
What will happen to our religious sectors? Can they do their purposes at the same or they applying now communist ideology? How about the other social problems of the country, terrorist kidnapping, crime, drugs, over population and the economic crisis? How do we survive…….?

President Macapagal-Arroyo brushed off criticisms about the purported snubbing she received from US President Barack Obama, who she failed again to meet Thursday when both leaders attended the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C.

“There was no snub at all. Where did all these reports come from? He acknowledged me during his speech,” Ms Arroyo told reporters Monday.

Asked to elaborate, she said: “He winked at me during his speech.”

Perhaps the world would grit its teeth on a person who calls himself a Republican. Today, never has the Republican Party been so unpopular. Almost all the people I know, even Evangelical Christians here in the Philippines, insist that Obama is the best thing that happened to America. Some friends have also been estranged to me because of my stand in American politics, because I’m what they call “anti-Obama”. Gosh, Obama-mania is just too much. Ang babaw kaya. And isn’t that strange that majority of people feel so strongly attracted to the man? Various leaders who became great also greatly polarized people in the nations they led. I just find this overwhelming optimism for Obama very strange. While I’m a Filipino, I believe that commenting on this topic is very much relevant because this Obama-mania even in our own country is just too disturbing.

While I would take a completely opposite stance on the matter of Obama being the better choice as the American president, I think it would help to explain my position by looking back into history itself. If you’re pro-Obama, and want to bash out this post, please bear with me because this post is the longest post I’ve ever posted on this blog.
