The hit franchise known for trotting around the globe, from France and Italy to India and Morocco, is adding a new location to its roster: the Philippines. Universal Pictures’ “The Bourne Legacy,” the fourth movie based on the Robert Ludlum novels, started filming in Manila, the country’s capital, two weeks ago.
Afterlife is the fourth movie of Resident Evil (or Biohazard as it is known in Japan, which is by the way, the original title of the franchise). Milla Jovovich once again reprised her role as Alice, no wonder for she did a great job in her role in Ultraviolet (2009), The Story of Joan of Arc (1999), and The Fifth Element (1997).
INCEPTION will confuse you if you allow it to, but will leave you pleasured all the same.
“Your mind is the scene of the crime.” Essentially, this movie tells the story of Cobb (Leo diCaprio) and his team’s mission to access somebody else’s mind through his dreams, and perform extraction or inception. With mind-invaders backed-up by no-nonsense people who practically dictate the lives of commoners, this film’s plot could easily be mistaken for revolving around organized crime.
Not quite.
We are greeted by a scene, so easy to disregard, which cuts to another scene with our main characters working their way deeper into the mind of their subject to steal something from his subconscious. It is then revealed to us that if it is possible to extract an idea from somebody’s mind, then it is also possible to impose one.
The technicalities are then laid out, exploring the feasibility of constructing dreams within dreams, so as to plant an idea deeper into the subject’s mind. The Point Man, Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) researches about The Mark, Fischer (Cillian Murphy). The Architect, Ariadne (Ellen Page), builds the physical aspect of the dream like structures for mazes; in which The Forger, Eames (Tom Hardy) and The Extractor, Cobb, will work their way deeper into The Mark’s subconscious. For them to plant the idea deeper, they need adequate sedation, courtesy of The Chemist, Yusuf (Dileep Rao). Their mission begins, and we get sucked into an indefinite adventure.
While almost everybody has been debating about how the story actually went and how it ended, here I am, simply fascinated by the philosophy behind Inception. It got me thinking more about the possibilities of the science behind it, rather than getting me spend time discussing how I understood the movie. Besides, that kind of narrative wasn’t designed to have a definite beginning and end, or a definite conclusion. I could easily declare that it ended conventionally and that everything fell into place, or I could claim that every scenario in the movie were merely bits and pieces implying something else.
INCEPTION was simply designed to point out that “reality” is what the subject chooses to believe in. The film was constructed to initiate various interpretations, mostly steering away from the obvious and superficial. And in case you don’t find the story amusing, the movie’s production value and musical score will keep you entertained, at the very least. Execution is the key. There’s Gordon-Levitt’s zero-gravity scene, for one.
Christopher Nolan has already bended too many conventions of science with Inception’s storyline, that when he got to the ending, he still had the viewers debating whether or not what was presented was what it seemed.
“Who are we to say otherwise?”
Here it is, 2009’s Top 10 US Lists. American Idol still dominates American homes; without a doubt Google is still numero uno in the Internet but Yahoo tops Mobile service. Surprise, surprise- Twilight Saga: New Moon isn’t number one in the Box Office. Twilight did make it top in DVD sales. Really? Taylor Swift’s album is tops? Check out the most downloaded and most listened to song in 2009 and more….
Honey will not be caught dead watching a Filipino movie. But he is still in Cambodia and I and my three old friends had nothing to do one Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago. Perfect timing. I can be as jologs as I want and I have a jolly-ogs good time. So off the four of us (myself, two manangs and one son of a manang – who tagged along with us under threat of loss of allowance by his mother) went to Gateway to watch A Very Special Love, the romantic comedy movie of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo.
To protect their kasosyalan (or so they think),
I am not disclosing the names of my friends (they all have dignified positions with decent employers and the son studies in a posh school). Myself… well, I can’t deny it any longer… I’m simply as jologs as can be.
Nonetheless, when we were queuing up in Gateway, we looked around surreptitiously to check if there were any media people waiting in ambush after we leave the theater to interview us about our rave reviews to be broadcast in the evening news or worse, The Buzz. Thankfully, there were none. Darn… secretly, I was prepared with my line which would have gone like this.. “Ang galing-galing ni Sarah! Ang guapo-guapo ni John Lloyd! Aaaaaaaaaaah!” with matching jumping up and down and clapping my hands in glee. Anyway, since there were no media people around at that time, I’ll just say it here – “Ang galing-galing ni Sarah! Ang guapo-guapo ni John Lloyd!” (jumping up and down and clapping my hands in glee).

Through the ages of mankind, the topic of LOVE is always been a favorite preference of any piece or work of art! It’s because LOVE is one of the foundation why we keep breathing and living in this world full of surprises. No matter what medium it is conveyed, the theme of love always moved people. It’s powerful and it’s domineering.
I stumbled one time reading comments on some sites and learned that many Rainbow advocates and supporters had watched the movie: Love of Siam. It is a Thai romantic-drama film. There is one scene that is a focal point of controversy (watch video below). It is simply a gay teen romance of two teenage boys (Mario Maurer as Tong and Witwisit Hiranyawongkul as Mew) but the film’s story revolves around the value of friendship, loving and being loved, family’s quest for unity of a loss member, separation and loneliness, identity crisis amidst affection, obedience of a son and protection of a mother, camaraderie and understanding of friends, musical talent and how gifted the young of today, infatuations and unrequited admirations as part of teen life, the many diversities of emotions, and of course, the right to choose the kind of sexual preference you want to live.

Me and a close friend went to see MAMA MIA after we dined for our team mates’ treat for pizzas! We’ve long been waiting for this movie. The trailer shows that it’s a very entertaining movie but still clueless on what it has to offer. Fortunately, it’s our last day of work and we ought to give ourselves some eye-candies after a busy week! All I can say for the movie as a whole, very IMPRESSIVE! And Meryl Streep (Donna), is one diva. She deserves another OSCAR for this!
