No, this is not, as the title suggests, a bazaar that sells toupees and hair pieces. WIG is short for Women’s International Group, an organization of expatriate women in Cambodia who come together for socio-cultural and charitable activities. Every year, they bring a bit of Christmas spirit in this predominantly Buddhist country by organizing a Christmas Bazaar. This year, the WIG Bazaar was held last Sunday at the ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel.
I remember our first Christmas here four years ago – no Christmas lights, no Santas, no Simbang Gabi, no bibingka and puto bumbong, very few parties… It took us forever to find Christmas wrappers for our gifts. On Christmas Eve, when the clock struck twelve, Honey and I opened our grand total of one gift each then went to sleep. Sad.
