Many, many summers ago my friend J fell in love with a boy and was so infatuated with him that she couldn’t eat or sleep for days on end. Two months later she had lost 15 lbs. and had gone from pleasingly plump to scorchingly svelte.
The only downside was that due to her rapid weight loss, she had lost so much of her thick, black hair that she had a huge bald spot on top of her forehead. I remember joking with her at the time: This is how God evens out the playing field for us women, you see. You may be able to show off your body but now you have to hide your head. She didn’t think I was funny at all, obviously.
