“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of
the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the
seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a
tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit
in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he
does, he prospers”. – Psalms 1:1-3
Okay. So I had this lengthy commentary on Genesis 1:1-2 and now it’s lost! Thanks MSN Spaces.
A contrast is being made here on what a) to avoid and b) what to focus on. A piece of wisdom from Proverbs – sometimes we want to be good at something but we’re not willing to put in the time and “deliberate effort”. So according to this, we can be fruitful if: a) we avoid the counsel of wicked people b) stand in the path of sinners (probably means you agree with them in silence?) and c) join those who scoff. But that’s the avoidance part. The investment part of doing is in meditating on God’s word everyday – this should result in the fruitfulness in our life.
