We arrived in Cambodia on 27 July 2002… exactly five years from today. It also happened to be (as I keep repeating in various places in this blog) exactly two weeks since we got married. So 27 July is an important day for Honey and myself … it was the start of a new life, a new partner, a new phase in our careers, a new country, a new home.

Back in 2002, we didn’t have Internet at home yet as it was very expensive. The Internet in the office was still dial-up. And of course, at that time, I’ve never even had the fortune to hear of the word blog. As I mentioned in my about page, before I learned to blog, I would bombard my family and friends with long annoying e-mails to make sure they’re updated about every teeny-weeny detail of my life here. I sure freed their inboxes once I learned to blog. I also get to bombard more people (that’s YOU dear blog reader) with the sordid saga of my life. Anyway, since I only started blogging last year, you must be wondering how it was like in Cambodia before 2006. Okay, I’m sure you’re not wondering but I don’t care… I will still give you a glimpse of my life during those first few weeks or months in Cambodia in 2002. And in celebration of five years of living in our adopted country, I will publish my first email letter to my family in verbatim recounting our first few weeks in the land of Angkor.

Note: Names and titles have been changed to protect, well… me! Please also pardon me… for in my letters, I often use one of our national languages which is… Taglish… hehe! :)
