My dad sent me his first SMS message with a smiley last Friday, and it was about the deteriorating health of my granddad who was in the ICU of their provincial hospital. He made this small joke about my lolo passing in and out of consciousness because he wanted to look for his prodigal daughter slash my crazy aunt who had flown to Manila despite being fully aware that their father was going to expire any freaking moment. So, yeah, my dad who was all by his lonesome (with his dying father by his side) miles away by plane sent me his first smiley ever telling me about the impending death of his only living parent.
