It is easy for anyone to claim that she/he is touching the lives of other people and get credit for it. It is easy to establish your name in your chosen field and claim that you are making a difference. It is easy to say that you are over or above the rest and feel enigmatic about the whole thing.
Life is not merely just touching the lives of other people but making their lives touch yours. These are two different perspectives. Let me expound.
When you say that you are touching the lives of other people, that goes to show that there is an energy inside you that is driving you to do something out of a motive that only yourself can justify. The awareness stems from your desire to do something but it is hard to pretend that there is no vested interest locked in between your efforts. To name some,we have the politicians doing things to gain more votes;many businessmen innovating on customer-friendly approaches to gain more profit;a suitor does everything to win the heart of his beloved;a simple woman doing everything to make a name for herself and many more cases that are internally driven with motives, whether good or bad.
Now,here comes the best part…being touched by other people’s lives is something that is reaction-driven..something that is not premeditated but acting on your instinct instantly out of the desire to help others. The basic example is when a stranger meets an accident and you act urgently on helping the person to be brought to the nearest hospital;giving alms to beggars at the very moment you sighted them and pitied their condition;and a remote case but possible is to help your worst enemy in the middle of a disastrous event that both of you have no control of.
When you do charity works and give quality service to your target clientele, that is expected of you and therefore that is an internally driven action because your end profit is your income.
The more accurate definition of touching lives is doing people-oriented service without a single centavo to expect.
We all have our vested interest and don’t be afraid about it because it is just being human. But before you claim that your are touching other people’s lives, please check your words and examine your conscience. If you can look at yourself straight to the face and say you are doing it not for yourself but for other people then you are in fact touching lives.
But if you are waiting for commendation or renumeration..then that is not the exact definition of touching lives.
But don’t stop doing good things for other people regardless of your own motives.Let God be the judge whether you will reap your rewards in the life hereafter or in this temporal world.
Just look at your efforts and assess where you stand. For if you are truly touching the lives of people out of “volunteerism,”then the people will judge you for it.But as long as you benefit financially from what you are doing ,then you have no right to claim that you are in fact touching their lives.
Just a point to reflect on.
