My Taberna Page

Thursday
May 1,2008

I am not sure why, but I think when people search for Anthony Taberna, they are led to my blog (2nd ranked on google and 3rd on yahoo when “Anthony Taberna” is searched, as of today) where in 2006 I commented on the reasons (or lack of it) why he is becoming more and more successful (eg: more shows). As a result, that has become this blog’s most read page and the article is the most commented on.

Again, I still maintain the opinion that I cannot see why Mr. Taberna is gaining success on TV and radio (ABS-CBN). His voice is not as good as many on radio nor does he look any good on TV. His comments are obviously scripted (not bad) but also obviously has an underlying agenda not necessarily the truth (bad)….

…But of course, the mere fact I am asking the question (the why Taberna’s success) means I have an inkling of the answer. I suspect Taberna is a deployment from some group with a political agenda, possibly former President Erap’s camp.

Richard Quest – My Fallen Idol

Sunday
Apr 27,2008

quest1One moment he’s in the Tuscan countryside taste-testing olive oils for airplane first class passengers. The next, he’s in Turkey buying exotic expensive carpets. Then, he’s at Beverly Hills buying designer suits and ties in Rodeo Drive. Then, he’s seen watching the first Rolling Stones concert in mainland China. Then, he’s in London chatting about the future of British royalty with Prince Andrew. He’s living the life I dream of – going to the chicest and most exotic places one only sees in James Bond movies and pampered in top of the line and almost decadent luxury.

He is Richard Quest – my favorite CNN presenter. Heck, he’s my favorite presenter… with his adorable British accent as pompous as Simon Cowell’s and Mr. Sheffield’s in The Nanny yet his quirky style as humorous and lovable as Mr. Bean’s. His CNN shows CNN Business Traveler and Quest are more than just boring travelogues featuring places and hotels. They feature a great lifestyle. THE lifestyle.

American Idol Season 7 Top 6 Result

Even if Simon Cowell loved her performance and rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Superstar” , it didn’t mean that Carly Smithson will be safe from elimination this week as she was now ejected from the show.

It’s Andrew Lloyd Weber week for your Top 6 on American Idol 7. I suggest for the gentlemen to don your best top hats/tuxedos and ladies, please spray anti-dust mite before wearing those awful feather boas (I mean, when did chicken and bird stink become fashionable on humans anyway?) and tasseled, itchy, and lacy dresses abominations (stay away from me while you’re in those because the smell reminds me of my great grandma, post-humus, srsly). Sit back, restrain yourself, and listen to the excruciating renditions brought to you by your finalists as they take on songs that may bore non-theater fans and the non-musically-inclined to non-existence.

Let’s begin.

Another Filipino in the name of Madonna Decena is making a name abroad just like our Ramiele Malubay, Mariel Jacoda, Charice Pempengco, among others. In fact, her talent has been shown in different venues–from restaurants to stadiums, and now on the new season of TV show “Britain’s Got Talent”, the British counterpart of American Idol.

Super Inggo at ang Super Tropa Trailer

Sunday
Apr 20,2008

There are two major reasons why I haven’t been posting very often:

1. Super Inggo at ang Super Tropa.
2. I’m a lazy bastard.

Since the second reason doesn’t put me in a very good light, let’s just stick to the first one. And that leads me to a trailer of the show below. Note, however, that this isn’t the trailer shown in cinemas after the movie SupahPapalicious, starring Vhong Navarro and Makisig Morales. I think that one was pretty awesome. The fact that I wrote that trailer and the episode it refers to doesn’t affect my judgment at all. I’ll post that trailer here soon as I get a decent copy of it. What you are about to view is a trailer done last year merely for marketing purposes. The asskickage has improved a lot since this was made, trust me.

Television Ad Clutter in the Philippines

Saturday
Apr 5,2008

Last Thursday night I had a chance to watch Ms. Cheche Lazaro’s “Media in Focus” show on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC). It is an intellectual talk show on everything and anything about media in the Philippines.

The episode was interesting. It was about the imposition of the 18 minute per hour ad load for all the members of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster ng Pilipinas (Association of Philippine Broadcasters) or the KBP.

The show had an interesting panel of guests and resource persons.

The first guest was Ms. Maloli Espinsa, who is the current President of the KBP. She talked about the stricter implementation of the load limit.

She said that the 18 minute rule is one of the higest in the region. [I did some research on Wikipedia and found out that 18 minutes was also the standard in US television.]
