I was surprised by my youngest son this morning. He came up to me and asked me, “Mommy? Abre mo please?”, while holding up an old remote he was playing with. I stared at him and tried hard to decipher what in the world he was trying to say. I could tell he was asking me to open the back of the remote where the batteries are placed but I could not determine the words he was using to express it.
8. I learned that Decathlete Bryan Clay of the United States is the World’s greatest athlete but nobody gives a S***t about him. If your name is Michael Phelps however, the whole world practically knows who you are and you’re set for life! You get to have multi-million dollar contracts, appear on cereal boxes for the next 3 years, endorse products left and right, and kids would call you their hero. Still, others would even claim you are the world’s greatest athlete when you can only do one sport!!
7. I learned no question that Michael Phelps is the world’s greatest swimmer today! He has the most number of medals than any other swimmers in history or any other athlete period! He managed to surpass, Mark Spitz’ 7 Olympic Gold medals and now has 14 Olympic Gold medals total! He holds 7 world records up for challenge in 2012!
6. I learned that in Women’s Gymnastics, you can land on your knees in the Vault and still get a Bronze medal!! You can even be in a tie and lose the Gold, despite the fact that your opponent had more visible errors than you!!
The mystery man’s been revealed… now it can told. John Lloyd Cruz is Armando.
It not a surprise that John Lloyd is Armando in the Philippine franchise of Betty La Fea, “I Love Betty La Fea”. He is really the best guy for the role… and for many reasons.
Pambihira, they’re good! Hey, Ichi and Karl. You should watch our good friend, Ramil’s show, The Rakenrol Haybol Show. It’s like Wayne’s World, MTV’s Beavis and Butthead, and ABC-5′s The Misadventures of Maverick and Ariel, all rolled into one. The show has that funny “rocker/tambay sa kanto” humor. More…
Have you seen the new (or so I am assuming) commercial for Dunkin Donuts? I swear I had to do immediately gather my two kids and tell them that what they had just seen was not to be copied. Both of them were laughing at first but after seeing my serious expression, they turned somber and said “Yes, mommy”. We saw it shown on Star World today.
I didn’t go to the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con, but thanks to the magic of the Internets, I got all the news and ridiculous photos of ridiculous people in ridiculous costumes from the event that I needed. And then some. It took me a couple of days to rummage through my bookmarks and feeds, but I eventually singled out 10 news items that made my balls sweaty with geeky anticipation. Here be the list:

1. Agents of Atlas Ongoing Series! My mancrush on Jeff Parker began when I was awesomed deeply by the Agents of Atlas mini-series back in 2006. My love for AoA has been well documented (Love & War, 2006 Awesome List, Lantern of Doom!, Agents of Atlas, Top 5 Lists #9 of 10: Graphic Fiction, and Giant-Size Rockery), so it goes without saying that I am extremely happy to learn that I’ll be getting my dose of AoA monthly starting early 2009.
The search for the next American Idol has commenced.
Because the first of the series of auditions was held at the Cow Palace in Daly City, “the Philippine City” in San Francisco, many Filipino-Americans made it with their entry wristbands, and hoping to pass the first round.
Here’s a short teaser clip of GMA7’s Signos, a localized documentary on climate change and its impacts in the Philippines. It won the Best Foreign Film Award for the 1st Lone Star International Film Festival in Texas, USA, according to GMA News.

The Middleman is a new TV series based on a comic book by Javier Grillo-Marxuach. It’s about a secret agency that deals with “exotic problems” like talking gorillas, evil terracotta warriors, and vengeful luchadores. It sounds silly, but it’s a smart amalgamation of comedy and science fiction. I totally loved the first two episodes, and after I saw the third one, it dawned on me: This is quite possibly the most awesome TV show in the history of all that you know. I suggest you all watch the show and be ROCKED. If you need to be convinced, let me spoil the aforementioned third episode for you:
The Middleman (Matt Keeslar) is one swell guy, but he does need a helping hand once in a while. That’s where his trusty hot sidekick, Wendy (Natalie Morales), comes in.

And the 2008 International Manhunt winner is… (drum roll) Abdelmoumen El Maghraouy (a.k.a. Moumen). He hails from Morocco from the North West Coast of Africa. He is the first Arab winner in this prestigious contest’s history and the second African Manhunt International winner as well.

After Justice League Unlimited, I didn’t think I’d enjoy another comic book animated series again. Come to think of it, the only comic book animated TV series I really enjoyed were the 90’s X-Men series, Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men: Evolution, and Justice League Unlimited. So it came as a surprise when I watched the first season of The Spectacular Spider-Man and loved it.
The first couple of episodes felt like The Batman all over again. I hated that show. It was too anime-ish for me, and I have no love for anime. Call me a hater, but that’s the way it is. But the animation style grew on me as the series progressed.
By the middle of the season, I realized that it’s not the usual comic book animated TV series starring Spider-Man. Actually, it’s not the usual comic book animated TV series, period. Most of the characters, whether they’re Spider-friend or Spider-foe, are recurring characters. That means you get to see several developments in each of the characters and in the complex relationships between several of the main cast.
This series is probably the most faithful reincarnation of Spider-lore in TV and in movies. It also has the most faithful Peter Parker iteration I’ve seen. I don’t understand why he has to have a mole under his left eye, but other than that, I’d say he’s the Peter Parkeriest Peter Parker ever.
For our second mission, we turned a bookstore and a cinema lounge into a slow-pace place. Have fun with the report and some pictures behind the scenes.
No. of Agents: 22
Mission Date: May 15, 2008
Mission Name: Slo-Mo (Slow Motion)

On the scheduled time, agents would slow down for 30 seconds then back to normal movements for another 30 seconds before going slowmo again until the three minutes allotted time for the mission expired. The group concentrated in the area where private reading is allowed. At the start of the mission, some people immediately noticed the fuss and started to get curious. Other confused customers are clueless on what was happening around.

Languages have been part of the human experience.
Consider for one moment that we Filipinos have 154 recorded dialects and languages. For such a small part of the world as the Philippines, listen in on the radio with all 90 million Filipinos speaking all of their languages at the same time and you’d wish the radio would just go static. Read more…
