Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway

I have heard many praises and expressions of relief that the new highway in North Luzon is now open and that is cuts travel short by hours. Trips to Subic and Baguio, is now as fast as a heartbeat, I have heard one comment even.

So when we planned our trip to Subic for my son’s birthday, we planned to take SCTEX so that we can get to Subic (and back) in lesser time than we used to. Maybe this is why we really did not rush to head out early, instead ate breakfast at home first and left around 8AM already.

A few weeks ago, my hubby kept complaining that he was too stressed out, restless. He expressed the need to get away from it all, to go to a place where the sound of his mobile phone will not send him into a frenzy, where there is little to no noise, no screaming kids, crying children, swearing neighbors and barking dogs.

Because I have not traveled for a while, I had sent a shout out to my friends and contacts to get input on where we can spend our “second honeymoon”. Truth be told, that thought is a thousand times more glamorous than the reality of my husband just needing some de-stressing.

Bali High (and Bali Low)

Monday
Feb 23,2009

Three nights and four days in the beautiful exotic island of Bali in Indonesia ought to bring me to heavenly highs. Unfortunately instead, I was pulled down to earthly lows as I spent most of my time there cooped up in long boring meetings in a conference room. What a waste! Anyway, I did enjoy my beautiful room in our sprawling Javanese style-hotel, the Ayodya Resort Bali. I had a perfect view of this lagoon from my balcony.

My boss though didn’t enjoy his room as much and complained of his small TV and his remote control. So I gaped at him and said, “My TV is a flat-screen”! But seeing his consternated look, I relented immediately and said, “Joke lang sir”. I knew I did the right thing when he heaved a sigh of relief… even if I did have to say a little white lie. Shhhhhh! I did have a flat screen. My work motto: do not aggravate the boss needlessly. ;)

They say that the island of Bohol sinks about an inch in May due to the thousands of Bol-anons who come home to attend the many town and barrio fiestas celebrated during the month.

You can almost feel this once you disembark from those overloaded ships docking at the Tagbilaran Port in May.
