Domain name research hijacking

Be careful when you do domain research. Avoid the CNet Domain Search page. Two days ago, a customer of mine was ready to pay for his hosting plan . His preferred domain name was catandungan.com. However when I tried to register it, it had just been registered to an outfit named Chesterton Holdings. Puzzled, my customer said “It was just available 2 days ago. How could that be?” . I was taken aback myself because the domain name is native to the Philippines. It’s not a common name. Besides, Chesteron Holdings is based on Los Angeles, California. continue reading.

I’m experimenting on using my TiddlySpot Wiki as a blog. I’ve written about this in my main blog and as I continue working with the combination, it seems like a really good alternative to other mainstream blogging tools/methods.

Well, what can we expect? Of course it hurts to accept that fact, more so when you’re within the ICT industry. You might not feel it if you’re studying in a Wi-Fi hotspot-blessed university or frequently visit classy malls and cafes, but many tech-savvy Pinoys have experienced this national deficiency firsthand. Heck, even the best Internet services offered in the country comes at exorbitant charges or suffer from frustrating quality and customer support.

A The Philippine Star article last week reports that out of 115 countries, the Philippines ranks 70 in ICT networked readiness. This is based on the 2005-2006 report of the World Economic Forum.

But I don’t want to do that, I want the best of both worlds. I want to keep using Gmail with all of its cool features and mindblowing storage space (over 2 GB and still counting!) while using my new jhay [at] jrocas [dot] com [dot] ph address all at the same time. This has been made possible thanks to a feature called mail forwarding and the ability of Gmail to handle all your other e-mail addresses as different accounts.

How? Again, logging in to my .com.ph + domain’s Cpanel, I can configure my native e-mail account (jhay at jrocas dot com dot ph) to forward all the e-mails it recieves to my Gmail account (jhaykage at gmail dot com). I now log in to my Gmail and proceed to creat a new account or “Send mail as:” profile which means you can use Gmail to send from your other email addresses.

Smart Broken

So, okay naman noong una. Mula noong Hulyo 1, nang makabitan ako, bagama’t medyo nagbabagal, isang beses lang akong nawalan ng connection at naayos naman agad. Hanggang sa dumating ang Martes na gabi. Nawalan ako ng connection.

Gmail for my .com.ph domain

Saturday
Jul 15,2006

I spent my entire free hours this morning to finish the setup, configuration and customization of new my Gmail powered-.com.ph e-mail accounts. Sir Angelo Racoma was even surprised at how quick I was accepted to beta test this ‘Gmail for your domain’ service by Google and also the quickness of how I’ve gone through the setup process.

Then I just found out this morning during the customization and setup of this service that it is much harder to switch e-mail accounts or migrate to a new one than migrating your website to a new webhost and domain. It’s similar to the feeling of loosing your old cellphone and it would only get worse once your mind focuses on the fact that you’ve lost sim card, phone book, all the special/important messages and all the contacts as well. I just hope I can get out of this ‘adjustment period’ soon enough.

MonstersGame

To those not familiar with the game, there are two sides fighting: werewolves and vampires. I’m a vampire hunting down those askals. Hahaha! It’s very addicting. A lot of Pinoys play the game, and monstersgame is like an epidemic at my workplace. All vampires are welcome to join our clan (as long as there are available slots).

Urinals with Ads

Thursday
Jul 13,2006

It’s called Wizmark. An interactive advertising device that goes with men to the restroom whenever mother nature calls on you…literally. It’s patented design allows it to sit right inside the average-sized urinal and despite being pissed on, it will still do its job and deliver ads both commercial and public service ads to you as you do you business inside the ‘john’.

If this device was meant as a advertising tool, I wonder if future models would become more high-tech and include a wireless internet connection allowing men to check their mail, read their RSS feeds and even blog while taking a piss. I also wonder that aside from public service ads or announcements, will targeted ads will be shown relevant to biochemical properties of the current ‘user’ so as to display ads about urinary, cardio-vascular and even reproductive health.

VH1’s show Best Week Ever does a parody of the popular Apple “Get a Mac” commercials.

I’m not sure if you guys have seen this already but I’d like to share it with you. I don’t find it that funny but it’s a good parody of the original commercials. Warning: Contains some profanity.
