If you’re a blogger, you are probably using one or the other or in my case- both: Copyscape and Creative Commons. I have decided to tackle the subjects after receiving an anonymous (I am inimical to anonymous comments!! You have a name, for crying out loud use it!) comment on my previous post about the two. It was an irrelevant note, from (I assume) a blogger with a Philippine IP address who just sort of ‘ordered’ me:

“You can not use copyscape and Creative Commons at the same time. Copyscape goes against sharing which is what Creative Commons is all about. search Free Culture Movement, open source, GPL, linux, IBM, Creative Commons are all part of the movement, copyscape is not because it is against it.”

Aaah, yeah… Nevermind the syntax! Earth calling nameless person! Aside from the fact that your comment was totally unrelated to my post, you have no idea what you’re blabbering about. Your comment is an absolute farce and the arguments totally neither here nor there. But thanks to you, I now have a blog post!

Bust the misconceptions here…

In line with Google’s 10th Year Anniversary, they are releasing new products and upgrades one after another.  Just today they released the New Picasa Web Albums and Picasa 3.0 Beta, and Chrome.

Simply put, the new Picasa products (Web and Desktop) has become a Photo Suite (IMO), while Chrome if you still haven’t heard, is Google’s very own FLOSS Browser!

Do you know that Browser War II already started? Safari fired first by leading the implementation of new properties to make designing a website much more easier than before. Guess who’s being left behind? IE of course, but rumours are abound on how IE8 is shaping up to overtake Firefox and Opera.

While checking JJ’s blog and her RSS problem, I stumbled about a trick to get some detailed statistics on about any FeedBurner feed as long as they have the FeedCount service activated.

This is useful if you want to find out a blog’s RSS subscriber count (if they really have guzzillions subscribers as they say).

For starters, you should know that the name of the FeedBurner feed is generally written after the slash. On my blog for example, the URL of the FeedBurner feed is feeds.feedburner.com/Lloydlopez wherein Lloydlopez is the feedname.

They vary in terms of features and functions, not to mention price. In general, however, most accounting software have common features that bring great benefits to a business, especially small ones.

A few months ago, I found a nice work-around for playing Video CDs in my Ubuntu using VLC. The work-around was as simple as removing the x from the MRL in Disc Advanced Options and checking “Play Locally” in the Stream/Save settings to get the audio. It worked for a time, but when I upgraded to Hardy Heron and re-installed VLC, the audio solution no longer worked. So, as a last resort, I now rip my VCDs into MPEGs in order to watch my movies; and here’s how I do it:

1. Insert the VCD in to the CD-ROM drive and fire-up VLC.
2. In VLC, go to File > Wizard. The Streaming/Transcoding Wizard dialogue will pop-up.
3. Select Transcode/Save to file, then click “Next”.
4. Select “Select a stream” then click the “Choose” button, which calls the Open… dialogue.
5. Under “Disc”, select VCD and remove the x from the MRL under Advanced Options, turning it to vcd:///dev/scd0 from vcdx:///dev/scd0.
6. Click “OK” to return to the wizard. And click “Next”.
7. Check “Transcode video” and “Transcode audio”, then click “Next”.
8. Select “MPEG 1″ as the Encapsulation format, then again, “Next”.
9. Provide a file name, or select an old file to overwrite on.
10. Click “Finish”, then let VLC do its thing.

From experience, it takes around fifteen minutes to rip a sixty-minute disc. But that’s ripping at a 1024KB bitrate. I’m assuming that the higher the bitrate selected in “Transcode video”, the longer it takes to rip the movie; conversely, lower bitrates will mean a faster rip.

Ah! And let me assure the Optical Media Board that the VCDs I’m ripping are legitimate copies, most of them I bought from Odessey. The above is just a process that I need go through so that I can watch my movies in my Ubuntu box.

Just less than two hours from now, another much awaited fight between two great fighters, dubbed as the “Lethal Combination“, Manny Pacquiao will battle it out with the Mexican – American David Diaz.

If Pacquiao wins this match then it will go down in the history books as he will be the first Asian to hold four world crowns in four weight division as well the first Filipino to reign in the 135-pound class.

Preliminary fights will start at 8PM EST / 5PM PST (8AM PH time) and the main match should be starting after 2 hours or so. I’ll be watching it live again for FREE as usual.
