Pity is a noble human emotion. But it is not enough. It’s just the first step. Another step has to be made. Read how two people (both from Cebu) took that second step. Christ the King

The Torah had 613 precepts. No wonder the rabbis at the time of Jesus wanted some form of simplification or systematization. 30th Sunday in Ordinary time
Based on a recent article, regarding how it is the books we read early on in life which truly have a profound influence on us, I look back at literature which has been particularly influential to me, and note how I’ve read many of them well into adulthood – although I did in fact read quite a few books growing up that had a significant influence on my development, especially in terms of my perception of morality and religion.
Sometimes, when we are too close to something, we fail to see its beauty. This is probably the reason why there are still many Boholanos, especially those living at the coastal areas, who have yet to visit the viewing deck of the Chocolate Hills in Carmen, Bohol, or even the new one in Sagbayan, Bohol.
Because we know it is just nearby, we sort of miss out on how extraordinary the thing is. It is exactly the same with the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon, Bohol, the second oldest stone Church in the Philippines. I don’t think many really appreciate its place in the history of our country.

While good intentions are important, they are not enough. If they were, we would have “The Intentions of the Apostles” instead of the “Acts of the Apostles”. God expects us to produce good fruits. 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Fallacy (pl. fallacies): In logical arguments, fallacies are either formal or informal. Because the validity of a deductive argument depends on its form, a formal fallacy is a deductive argument that has an invalid form, whereas an informal fallacy is any other invalid mode of reasoning whose flaw is not in the form of the argument.”

Chunky Monkey is a member of my favourite brainless forum, ManilaTonight. This person isn’t new though. And for reasons that I will not enumerate here, I suspect Chunky Monkey to be an alter-ego of another idiot whom I have written about (*ehem* Negative Numbers *ehem*). But enough of introductions because who this person really is isn’t important. It’s what’s posted by this person in “public” that is worthy of rememberance.
But briefly, this encounter stemmed from a thead called Biblical Fallacies, where people have only enumerated inconsistencies (and generally ideas in bad taste) in some passages in the Bible and went on to flaming each other. I thought it would be nice to remind those people what fallacies actually are and how many of the posts made in the thread exemplify fallacies of one kind or another— the old Argumentum ad Hominem, is of course, very popular.

I am elated that the World Youth Day festivities ended successfully in Sydney yesterday. I now pray for the safe return of Pope Benedict XVI to the Vatican and young participants to their respective countries.
I brought this matter up because in the Toronto edition of this Catholic youth conclave in 2002, many Filipino youth did not return home. I personally know of some Davao delegates who stayed in Canada and others who slipped into the US and stayed there as TNT (tago ng tago) or illegally.
