The transition council is neither an esoteric political proposal nor a novel concept which should surprise everyone. Last year, it was THE alternative to Gloria Arroyo’s fake government which was acceptable to major political groups. It was the subject of numerous debates in media and in different assemblies. Pamphlets were distributed to inform the public why the transition council will work better for the country.

Because the Malacanang occupant cannot hope to have her “parliament” this month with the derailing of the Chacha Express, the next best thing for her is to pack her cabinet with members of Congress.
That is to continue her delusion.
The list is getting longer.

A photo of the new Cotabato city hall published in the Inquirer today reminded me of a poem we took up in college on the Taj Mahal. Select passages follow:
For you, the Taj may be a great monument to love,
Perhaps you even hold this charming spot in esteem,
But, my love! Let’s meet some place else!”
They arrested terror suspects in Florida and foiled a plot to bomb and flood the New York subway. America is under seige from homegrown and foreign terrorists. It is a dangerous place to visit.
Why is our government not issuing travel advisories so that Filipinos would be guided accordingly in traveling to the US in the same way the US, UK, and other countries issue travel advisories for their citizens against traveling to the Philippines?
Hoop was amused rather than pissed off.
I was not. This is clear discrimination. This violates the equal protection provisions of our laws.
After the Lettermen, Fra Lippo Lippi, Four Aces, and Cascades, the next foreign act to hit Davao is New Yorker David Pomeranz.
He who wrote such Barry Manilow hits as “Tryin’ to get the feeling again” and “The old songs.”
Tuason is absolutely right about the chilling effect of the distances that some Filipinos need to travel just to exercise their right to vote; He may also be right about overseas filipinos balking at the thought of having to sign a return affidavit; I’m not quite sure what he means when he talks about “attitude and perception hampering registration efforts;” and I think he forgot to say: ‘the OAV law sucks!;’but when he says “apathy,” I have to say I understand his frustration, even though I think he’s got it wrong.
Its not that overseas Filipinos don’t care – half-an-hour’s surfing on the internet will reveal a terrifically vibrant blogging community of overseas Filipinos, all of whom obviously care – the problem is that many are disgruntled with the politics of their homeland.
Here we go again.
Licking the ass of Uncle Sam.
During the events leading to the Iraq War, the Philippines was one of the earliest to enlist in the Coalition of the Willing. The Filipinos were not at war with the Iraqis, nor the Philippines a party to the conflict in the Middle East. Nevertheless, the Arroyo government committed the entire nation in this totally unjustified war.
What is wrong with the world reaction to these news?
Why is missile testing condemnable but actual aggression not?
The number seven must be an unlucky number for North Korea. Its recent muscle flexing missile tests using seven shots have earned an almost universal condemnation across the world.
Even our City Mayor and Congress Representative expressed their stand.

Superman going around the globe from Manila to Italy to France saving people reeks of American Hegemony of global security. He is portrayed as the world’s policeman, fireman, and one-man security force where everyone is beholden to him and utterly grateful to his Boy Scout acts. But still, it shows that an American Icon like Superman being on top of global affairs where he has influence over other sovereign nations makes me want to puke. Not only is he violating the air spaces of other countries, he is implying that other countries can’t take care of themselves and are always in need of Superman.
The Ombudsman simply set out to provide the “factual basis” for the SC’s earlier conclusion that – despite the Court’s careful legalese – criminal liability existed; it never really wanted to ferret out the truth. The truth, to quote Al Gore, would have been inconvenient.
But why does the Court have to rely on the Ombudsman to prove that criminal liability did exist? The simple answer is that the SC couldn’t do it.
The City Council approved yesterday in our regular session Supplemental Budget No. 1 providing additional funds for the city’s operations and projects.
With this new appropriation totalling P374.9 million, the city’s total budget for year 2006 is now P2.6 billion.
We met with the family of Karen and Sher in a press conference today. A fellow youth leader remarked that talking with the family of the missing persons was really difficult. There is really no way you could take it lightly.

The tribes of corruption: the fraternities, the labor unions, the Establishment, the Superstars…La Vida Lawyer
With a vote of 9 pro-judges against 5 dissenters (with one abstaining), this reflects the high level of maturity of our Supreme Court system for it only upholds one’s freedom of religion. It’s only because our SC judges are wise enough to realize that a democracy like ours should never be retrofitted with narrow and baseless Christian mores.

it’s been a while since i visited madinat jumeirah. not knowing any restrictions, we took out our “big guns” and started shooting for subjects… then we headed down near the artificial lagoon when we were stopped by the guard…

Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao won the bout all right. But many Filipinos lost Money in the fight.
Confident that their ring idol would KO Mexican Oscar Larios, many wagered that the match would not last ten or even six rounds.
I know two city officials who lost not just their wallets, but shirts too.
