In this article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Malacanang Palace is slamming the media on why they are quibbling over a few thousand dollars when, according to them, GMA has brought in billions of dollars in investments in return.

On the article, it says “Whatever monies may have been spent for the appropriately ceremonious conduct of her official trip abroad are but a tiny fraction of the billions of pesos she has committed, and will continue to commit, to the alleviation of hunger and the amelioration of poverty in our country,” Anthony Golez, a deputy spokesperson of Ms Arroyo, said Thursday, reading from a statement at a media briefing.

A President to Remember..

Monday
Aug 10,2009

The President Cory funeral cortege took the same road when Senator Ninoy was also brought to his resting place – via Makati’s portion of the South Super Highway or as known today “President Osmeña Highway”.

Since it’s in our neighborhood, I went outside and joined the thousands of Filipinos waiting to give their last respects to the 11th President of the Republic of the Philippines – President Corazon “Cory” Cojuangco-Aquino.

I brought home 426 photos, 332 of which I uploaded online. These photos captured the Filipino people during her time of mourning as a Nation. If you weren’t there, then I hope these photos will allow you to go back in that point in time and be there as well, together with us.

The photos will speak for me and express for me what it was like being there. So join me as I show you: A Story to Tell… A President to Remember.

My Encounter with Sen. Manny Villar

Tuesday
Jul 21,2009

Disclosure:

I have not decided yet on who to vote on 2010, but I already have my shortlist. Likewise, I am not working or affiliated with any political groups.  This post should not be construed as an endorsement, rather in the spirit of social responsibility, I am sharing with  Filipino readers what our would be Presidents has  to offer. MV is a serious contender, he puts his money where his mouth is. — Sonnie

~

It’s a privilege to be invited, together with another 5 bloggers, to have round table discussion with Sen. Manny Villar at Bo’s Coffee, Boni High Street.

This is the 3rd time I was invited to meet with a Presidentiable. First with Sen. Mar Roxas, 2nd with MMDA Chair Bayani Fernando, but I begged off because of conflict in schedule, and this meet up with Sen. Manny Villar.

When invited then by the group of Mr. Palengke, I’m a bit hesitant because I am not into political blogging, but heck, I will vote for a new President on 2010 and It’s only proper to get to know them up-close , to make an intelligent choice

With the 3 hour meeting, the blogger’s took time to ask questions and know MV, the man, his principles and what he can offer to the republic.

The President and Vice President met with a bipartisan group of Congressional leaders today to discuss one of today’s most contentious issues – immigration – and how to go about reforming the broken immigration system. The President stated that the Administration is fully behind comprehensive immigration reform, and that they will be working with House and Senate leaders to have an honest conversation about the issues and come up with practical solutions:
We have members of Congress from both chambers, from parties, who have participated in the meeting and shared a range of ideas.  I think the consensus is that despite our inability to get this passed over the last several years, the American people still want to see a solution in which we are tightening up our borders, or cracking down on employers who are using illegal workers in order to drive down wages — and oftentimes mistreat those workers.  And we need a effective way to recognize and legalize the status of undocumented workers who are here.
While Congressional leaders are working to tackle the complexities of immigration reform, the Administration has already taken steps to improve the system. The FBI has cleared much of the backlog of immigration background checks, the Department of Homeland Security is speeding up citizenship petitions and in conjunction with the Department of Labor, they are working to crack down on employers who are exploiting illegal workers. The President also announced a new collaborative effort that will utilize technology to improve legal immigration:
Today I’m pleased to announce a new collaboration between my Chief Information Officer, my Chief Performance Officer, my Chief Technologies Officer and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Office to make the agency much more efficient, much more transparent, much more user-friendly than it has been in the past.
In the next 90 days, USCIS will launch a vastly improved Web site that will, for the first time ever, allow applicants to get updates on their status of their applications via e-mail and text message and online.  And anybody who’s dealt with families who are trying to deal with — navigate the immigration system, this is going to save them huge amounts of time standing in line, waiting around, making phone calls, being put on hold.  It’s an example of some things that we can do administratively even as we’re working through difficult issues surrounding comprehensive immigration.
And the idea is very simple here:  We’re going to leverage cutting-edge technology to reduce the unnecessary paperwork, backlogs, and the lack of transparency that’s caused so many people so much heartache.

Everyday, we complain about graft and corruption in our country. We know people die because government resources do not reach them but instead fill the pockets of many of those in power. Little children are left begging in the streets while many of our politicians are quarrelling over what is left of the country. What then does our future hold?

We know change we must, and 2010 presents an opportunity. However, with a little over a year from elections, we still do not know who or where our real leaders are. We do not even have a glimpse of what the real issues are. With more than 90 Million Filipinos, why can’t we find even a few among us who can lead the country to the clamored change?

Now, Lead Philippines (www.leadphil.blogspot.com) has teamed up with Di Duwag ang Pilipino (www.diduwagangpilipino.com) to produce a weekly radio program that will:

* Discuss in pressing details poverty brought about by graft and corruption
* Interview potential leaders on their ideas on solutions to poverty and how to stop graft and corruption
* Expose fake leaders from real leaders by challenging their ideas in an open dialogue

We are now calling on volunteer writers, interviewers, field and/or online researchers and all those who can help us produce this radio program in whatever capacity.

If you:

* are a Filipino citizen, 18 years of age or above,
* have high level of intelligence and maturity,
* speak/write fluently and confidently both in English and Filipino,
* are aware and concerned of national issues,
* have an open, independent and critical mind,
* believe that you can do a better interview than most in the mass media, and
* have an extreme desire to see a better Philippines.

We call on you to be part of our mass media campaign to help educate the people about our own problems and the solutions to them, and in the process help find real leaders of our country.

Stop complaining about your country now… Join us and be part of positive change!

No Link Between Video Game Play and Violent Behavior

“the reckless pursuit of anti-video game legislation like this is an exercise in wasting taxpayer money, government time, and state resources. USCIS Delays Rule Changing List of Documents Acceptable to Verify Employment Eligibility

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced Friday that it has delayed the implementation of an interim final rule entitled “Documents Acceptable for Employment Eligibility Verification” published in the Federal Register on Dec. 17, 2008 by 60 days, until April 3, 2009.  The rule streamlines the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) process and was originally set to take effect today (February 2, 2009).

The delay will provide DHS with an opportunity for further consideration of the rule and also allows the public additional time to submit comments. A notice announcing the delay was transmitted today to the Federal Register.  In addition, USCIS has reopened the public comment period for 30 days, until March 4, 2009. The interim final rule will amend regulations governing the types of acceptable identity and employment authorization documents employees may present to their employers for completion of the Form I-9.  Under the interim rule, employers will no longer be able to accept expired documents to verify employment authorization on the Form I-9.

The interim final rule and an informational copy of the revised Form I-9 will continue to be available for public comment at www.regulations.gov.
