The clip has been viewed over 100,000 times in the first 24 hours it was posted on August 3rd and is spreading virally on blogs, email and social media. Only three days later today, it has already garnered over 700,000 views and counting!

Arnel’s story is a fascinating look at how fame and celebrity have transformed in our super-connected Youtube age. Like fellow Youtube sensation-turned-pop icon Justin Bieber, Arnel was catapulted to stardom after being “discovered” by sheer chance. Our film follows him through this uncharted world of democratized media, where a celebrity’s fame is fueled by viral hype and destroyed by short attention spans and fickle opinions…
If you have told anyone 10 years ago that in the future, someone can be famous and reach millions and millions of people around the world in one week’s time, no one would believe you.
The ‘future’ of instant fame happened six years ago when three cool geeks from California invented YouTube in 2005. Since May 2010, YouTube exceeds 2 billion views a day. 2 billion. Since March 2010, there are 24 hours of video uploaded PER minute. I thought there should be more but over the years, there have only really been a few breakout artists who attribute their good fortune to YouTube: Arnel Pineda, Charice, Greyson Chance, Kina Grannis, Marie Digby, and Justin Beiber comes to mind.
That’s what is special about Maria Aragon, a Filipino-Canadian 10-year old girl from Winnipeg, Canada. NOT everyone gets their chance! Her simple video of her covering Lady Gaga’s new track “Born this way” stood out from the hundreds of cover of the same song. She wasn’t trying to be anything. She wasn’t trying to copy Lady Gaga, she was just doing her own interpretation of the song!
On March 3rd, 2011- Thia became the only fourth Filipino-American to ever make it into the finals of American Idol in ten years. She is one of the Top 13 finalists currently competing for the title and a recording contract. Six years since Camille Velasco and Jasmine Trias took the Idol stage and three years since Ramiele Malubay’s time.
To those wondering and questioning whether Arnel Pineda is still with Journey, here is your solid answer– Journey announces the upcoming release of its second album with Arnel entitled “Eclipse” due to be out exclusively via Walmart on May 24th, 2011.
The album features 12 tracks including one instrumental track. It is produced and recorded by Kevin Shirley, and mixed by David Kalmusky. Listen to some of the tracks…
This is a first for American Idol! One of its TV promos, “10 reasons to watch American Idol Season 10″ mentions a contestant’s name.
Incidentally, the name mentioned is that of 16 year old Filipina Thia Megia. She makes it to number 5th reason to watch Idol this year! When Thia says her name, new judge Jennifer Lopez quips, “that’s a movie star name…”
I finally got my hands on the Eraserheads box set that I had been anticipating since God knows when. I guess you can say that Christmas came early. I was able to get it from Greenwich SM Megamall a day earlier than promised. They’re awesome. I’m still peeved because I didn’t even consider having my pizzas delivered so I could’ve gotten my hands on the box set much, much earlier though. But whatever, I have my grubby hands on the motherfucking Eraserheads box set!

That upbeat music video in the commercial for Coke Zero is pretty intriguing. The featured lady’s name is Amuro Namie and she’s a pop singer from Japan.
Here’s the complete music video of the song Wild by Amuro Namie:
Here’s the music video of Amuro Namie Coke Zero commercial:
Amuro Namie is the new Coke Zero endorser in the Philippines. It’s not yet certain if she will be coming to Manila to do a concert but we expect more from Amuro Namie soon.
I found this news rumor on Broadwayworld.com.
Broadway World is such a respectable site for everything Broadway/Theater and the like. It is very surprising to find how they can run a story without validation. Nonetheless, their main source is from the Philippine Daily Inquirer and it quoted Charice’ manager Grace Mendoza.
“The Phillippine Daily Inquirer confirms that Charise, the Philippina singing sensation will join the cast of GLEE next season. Her manager, Grace Mendoza, tells the Inquirer: “Yes, it’s true, Charice will soon join GLEE… And not just as a guest, but as part of the cast in a new season.” [Note: Yes, they've misspelled Charice name and Filipina!]
Digging into it because I am a huge Glee fan, I found out the link to the Inquirer doesn’t exist anymore. Either they have been removed because it was false or they intentionally put the story up without confirmation other than rely on the manager’s words. In which case, I strongly suggest Charice fire her own manager for starting out an incredible story that isn’t true.
It looks like a new Asian singer is going to hit Manila soon and it’s a name we haven’t heard yet. This time, it’s not coming from South Korea, Taiwan or Hong Kong but from Japan. Her name is Amuro Namie.
While browsing through the Youtube videos, I chanced upon this hilarious and very entertaining video of On The Rocks accapella group singing their own rendition of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance mashed up with her other popular songs.

The world Premiere of Charice’s Music Video “Pyramid” debuted at Oprah Winfrey’s official site a few days ago and I’m pretty excited to blog about it. Didn’t realize her album is set for release on May 11th.
To those unfamiliar, Ellen DeGeneres ’sort of’ discovered the then 15 year old girl with the big voice from the Philippines Charice, after Charice made her first US television appearance in the popular daytime show two years ago. Oprah Winfrey, the queen of television and considered to be the most influential woman in the world happened to notice her too. That encounter began a wonderful journey for Charice toward making it as an international artist! The rest is history.
