Now you can! With the official release of the new Philippines National Keyboard Layout, Filipino all-over the world can now type the characters that before we have to copy-and-paste elsewhere (or memorize ASCII codes).

For example, if I want to type “ñ”, I just click (RAlt)/AltGr+n and I get ñ. Typing Batangueño is now way much faster and easy. Or if you are creating financial reports and your currency is in Philippine Peso, forget about typing PHP/Php, just press (RAlt)/AltGr+p and you get the ₱eso sign.

Font availability is not a problem at all. Months ago I tested the ₱eso sign availability by simply asking it on µblogs and social networks – Linux, Windows, and Mac users can see it! And Ññ of course has been in the ASCII range (0-255) for a looooong time already.

Here’s more, start typing in Baybayin (or Alibata as was wrongly labeled by our Education system) direct from your keyboard! No need to use online typepads or copy pasting, or escaping via HTML codes, just type as you would when typing in Latin.

Can someone read it? Oh yes. Offline and online. If you are in Megapolitan Manila, probably you haven’t seen or met one yet, but outside of Mega Manila, there are lots. Online, you probably encountered us talking in Baybayin via Twitter, Facebook, Plurk, Identi.ca/Status.net, Multiply, even on our blogs and comments, but you don’t have a font.

Fair enough. We included a Baybayin font created by Nordenx, in our downloadable zip files. Simply install it and voila, you will start seeing the beautiful Baybayin writing script of our great Nation.

As an avid fan of the NBA, I have been collecting basketball sports cards since 1996.

I don’t want to be redundant regarding how I happened to stumble into this hobby so I suggest you read my blog post titled My NBA Trading Cards Hobby on my old web site.

During that time, the hobby had an explosion here in the Philippines.

I remember trading with hobbyists of all ages: from a 7 year-old kid to a 40-something professional.

However after the shortened NBA season in 1998 due to a lockout, many fans were disgusted with the turn of events. As a result, they left the hobby causing it to die gradually.

When Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh along with a strong draft class exploded into the NBA scene in 2003, it revived fan interest in the NBA and as result, it also helped revitalized the hobby when they turned back to collecting basketball sports cards.

I was one of those.

Thanks to the power of the Internet, even though we have no card shops here in our place, I can still buy and trade cards of my favorite players, Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard.

I buy and sell at eBay and trade with other hobbyists all over with the various sports cards forums too numerous to mention.

Here in the Philippines, there’s only forum: NBA Cards Philippines of which I am one of the first ten members and actually helped to put it up.

Filipino fan, if you want to return to the hobby, you are very much welcome.

1. For these mystery shops you need a PERSONAL CAR (motorcycles are not allowed). You are required to observe the service and facilities standards of petrol stations.

2. Reimbursement: The shop fee is 450 Pesos per shop. You are required to make petrol and store item purchase. The minimum amount to spend on fuel is 200 Pesos.

3. Deadline: These mystery shops have to be completed within the one week and the surveys must be completed and submitted within 24 hours of mystery shopping, latest by the 14th of November 2009

Please note that these mystery shops are to be executed between 9 am to 3 pm, 7 days a week (Including weekend).

We will inform you from the 19th October onwards if you are selected for one or more mystery shops. Do check your mailbox for updates!
