I have been watching Jewel in the Palace episodes and found myself fascinated with acupuncture- how it seems simple and yet is able to treat complex illnesses, at times with immediate results at that- (well, at least in the drama), so when I was asked by my mother to accompany her to see an acupuncturist, I thought it would serve as educational to go along with her. The thousands crossroads we face in our daily lives. Who makes these crossroads? Who serves us the options? Why do we have to face it? What makes us choose the road less traveled? How do we feel about our decisions now? Are we happy about it?
These are some of the questions physicians have dissected, researched and the answers, blogged in The Blog Rounds 3rd ed. Themed “At a crossroad“, the third edition of The Blog Rounds is up at Doc Claire’s blog In the Middle of Nowhere. In this edition, you will see a growing community of Filipino doctors who blogged about their personal and medical life! What they wrote, will actually fill my whole week of reading and pondering!
I am very thankful Doc Claire accepted and run a well thought of third edition of TBR. I am very much excited also of the growing number of Filipino MD blogger who joined TBR! My hat’s off to all of you!
The Blog Rounds is a weekly compilation of the best in Philippine’s medical blogosphere, written by physician bloggers (or the medically inclined bloggers) and hosted on a participating blogger’s weblog. Archives and edition schedules ( plus the host blogger) are listed here. The next edition of TBR will be up this Tuesday, April 8,2008 7am PST and will be hosted by Doc Tess of An Eye Doctor in a Third World Country.
For physicians and medically inclined bloggers interested in joining this blog carnival, please contact me through my email kokegulper[at]yahoo[dot]com or any of the participating TBR bloggers. Guidelines and updates are posted here in my website, The Orthopedic Logbook.
The “holy week” is of special interest to outdoor pilgrims like me not only because of an important Christian tradition it celebrates, but also because of the long vacation time it offers. It give us trekking saints, longer time to troop to our mecca and hit those peaks again! I am one of those outdoor buffs who spent the last two successive Lenten season on top of those mountain ranges.
Ironically, no matter how low profile I keep on what my real job is, I often get questions related to it and mountaineering, a hobby I soon enjoyed.
“How do you physically prepare for this climb Dokie? Is there a way for us to prevent injuries and muscle soreness during and after climbs? Why do some people pass out of exhaustion or get headaches at high altitudes?”
These are the common questions fired at me, by my climbing buddies and often by newfound trekking friends. Read the full post here

“Before the diagnosis, there is diagnostics. Before the diagnostics, there is the physical examination. But before anything else, there is the history”.
This algorithm is the universally accepted and scientific method of diagnosing a disease in the medical world. One process may be concurrent with the other, but the whole algorithm is useless without knowledge of each one of these processes . More importantly to treat an ailment, you have to know the history of that ailment and the person afflicted with it.
History taking by far, is often a neglected part of this clinical evaluation process. Time constraints maybe, but sometimes, disasters could be avoided by just going back to the history of the patient.
In this week’s Blog Rounds, we go back in Philippine history, take a peek at some of the most interesting (often hilarious) health related trivia, diagnose a problem and offer some treatment pundits that mean something more than fill our stomach with gas while laughing about it. Our case?! Philippines medical history made ridiculously hilarious!Read the full edition here

I don’t usually write anything about the clubs/bars here in Dubai that I’ve been to (except maybe Chikka Grill on this post; and it’s not even a review but a rant on sub-par performances) because 1) I hate making reviews; 2) I haven’t been to many clubs yet; 3) I ain’t a club connoisseur; 4) I just don’t like writing reviews.
If I do like making one I’d probably have written something about Joe and I’s incredible experience when we went out partying at Jimmy Dixx here in Dubai. But aside from the fact that my wife sometimes go to this here site and read what her dumbass hubby had to say that she’ll be very infuriated to know that I just spend a good 500 dirhams tab worth of drinks and later on, pizza, I also don’t want to end up writing “We just stood there like a bunch of stupid assholes that we are salivating to the hottest Brit women we’ve ever seen that walk this side of Dubai, drinking bottle after bottle of Corona and trying to impress our lady friends by buying them glass after glass of bullfrogs until we blow our wallets, taking time to go the loo to masturbate because the ladies in the crowd are so damn beautiful they’re way, way out of our leagues, that if we don’t try to blow our wads on the toilet seat NOW it will only give us blue balls later on so fuck our morals.”
According to almost M.D. practitioners and some ob-gyne, the causes of ovarian cysts are products of failed or disordered ovulation. What is ovulation? As we all know sometime in the middle of our menstrual cycle, almost certainly an egg during or between the 12th and 16th days it reaches maturity in one of the two ovaries, released and is quickly sucked up by the tulip-shape opening of the nearness fallopian tube. Several days ago, a young boy by the name of Joshua Almario came up to me. I was sitting at that time in a cottage outside Molave Residence Hall, in UP Diliman. At that time, I was doing some note-taking for my subject in Obligations and Contracts. It was around lunch time. I was waiting for my girlfriend. When he seated right across me, he asked what I was studying. Dumbfounded, I hesitated telling him what subject. Obligations and contracts? That’s something I didn’t even know when I was his age. Then again, I didn’t want to underestimate him. So, I told him the subject. Thereafter, a conversation flowed. [CONTINUE READING]
I’m so excited typing this introductory post (my heart is thump-a-thumping!) that I almost forgot that I’m mourning (but enough of that for now…).
So, FINALLY, a grand rounds of the best in the PHILIPPINE MEDICAL BLOGOSPHERE: THE BLOG ROUNDS!
I’ve spoken with Bone M.D. previously about how it would be nice if we were to have a medical blog carnival similar to the Grand Rounds in which I’ve participated for some time (see the post in which I’ve hosted the Grand Rounds or GR for the first time and the time when I got featured in the pre-rounds of Medscape). The Grand Rounds is a weekly blog carnival of medical posts, which could be centered around a certain theme or it could be non-themed and is hosted by different bloggers.
Prevent Fire: Be Informed, Get Involved! is the theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Month.

Fire Prevention Month is observed every year per Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A aimed at raising the level of awareness of the public of the ways to prevent fires and save lives and properties.
Here are some simple tips that could go a long way in helping with fire prevention (source: PIA):
* Candles and Lamps
o Do not set the lamp too close to the curtain; never read in bed by candle or lamp
o Do not leave a burning candle unattended

Today’s the start of the Guiness 9-ball Asian Tour 2008. See various nationalities play the “alternative golf”. Watch as players apply analytical geometry and skillfully putt a ball-with-chickenpox into fruit-colored round objects until they sink into a net.
Here’s today’s schedule (Feb.29, 2008) on the TV table on Star Channel.
The expression “going bananas” is from the effects of bananas on the brain that will boost up our energies into something we never expected, which affects our mood. It cools both the physical and emotional temperature to make us relax on climax. Do you know that that exotic banana gives you more than you think of its pleasantness? That is why banana is brilliant for having a “sex a-peel”, which a term I only plagiarized to spice up an attention. Read on:
