Our world is already provided with richer sources of knowledge lays with “lexicon” to understand every meaning toward enlightenment. There were good books that have been written, which some have read by people to where the writers relay the messages and where they’re rely on to. Read on…
Sa Mahal Kong Kapatid,Congratulations! You made it! I’m sure your mind is filled with memories and reflective thoughts as you close a chapter of your life.
Graduation is not only the end of a chapter. More importantly, it symbolizes the first step in your next journey. And as you begin your next adventure, I would like to share with you these two poems and six pictures that have guided me in this game we call “Life.”
For Filipinos, a great food combination would be dinuguan and puto, green mangoes and bagoong, etc. These are some of the delectable dishes that one could not resist. Just like any combo meal, there’s also the so-called perfect match for fire extinguishers and it is none other than the smoke alarm or smoke detector. It is not enough to have insurance for your house and car alike, fire is a serious hazard that is preventable if various safety measures are observed. A woman and a boy were burnt to death recently in their respective apartments, the former in Paranaque City and the latter in North Cotabato. Such accidents could have been avoided if these homeowners considered buying themselves the “perfect combo” in fire safety. Fire extinguishers buy you time to escape from the dangers of fire, while a smoke alarm serves its function by providing early warning for a possible fatal danger. Both gadgets are invented to protect you and your family. (more…)
Last semester, I was able to attend a seminar on reproductive rights hosted by UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP-CIDS). The discussion, although insightful, wasn’t novel. It basically talked about the still un-adressed population problem here in the Philippines.
As I’ve said, the topic wasn’t anything new. I’ve been hearing and reading of it ever since my elementary years. I could recall my elementary science teachers telling us about the growing population, together with other problems such as pollution. Now that I’m in my second degree course in College, I find it surprising (or rather, appalling) that nothing has been done about it.
WHAT?! (Sheesh…) [CONTINUE READING]
The ASEAN Charter, the talk of the year. The new Constitution that is greater than our respective National Constitutions. ASEAN on the road to becoming a supra-”nation” if you will. But for us ordinary citizens, like me, what are the interesting parts?
Malu Fernandez, the Manila Standard Today lifestyle writer who earned the ire of the Philippine blogging crowd with her elitist comments against OFWs, is at it again. This time, she’s turned the tables on bloggers and calls them slackers and lonely people. Continue reading the whole post…
Several days ago, a young boy by the name of Joshua Almario came up to me. I was sitting at that time in a cottage outside Molave Residence Hall, in UP Diliman. At that time, I was doing some note-taking for my subject in Obligations and Contracts. It was around lunch time. I was waiting for my girlfriend. When he seated right across me, he asked what I was studying. Dumbfounded, I hesitated telling him what subject. Obligations and contracts? That’s something I didn’t even know when I was his age. Then again, I didn’t want to underestimate him. So, I told him the subject. Thereafter, a conversation flowed. [CONTINUE READING]
Does this mean we were not salvages before the Spanish came? Funny. My Swiss husband said that in school they learned that Magellan was killed by salvages. Correction then. Make that salvages who can read and write! The Spanish even noted when they “discovered” the Philippines that “there is scarcely anybody who cannot read or write in letters proper to the island Manila.” (Pedro Chirino in 1602; source: A page for Philippine Prehistory). This script is called baybayin. Unfortunately, no baybayin documents have survived from before the spanish era (Paul Morrow). Through the years, a lot of fakes have surfaced and have been proven as hoaxes. Hopefully, a few artifacts are standing scrutiny and are now starting to give us a glimpse of the thoughts of prehispanic Filipinos. I have compiled web articles about these artifacts. Read more…

I’m a believer of the saying “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”. Nowadays, being beautiful and sexy is the next best thing to a woman. I admit. I’m hypocrite if I’d say that I don’t pay attention with the way I look. I also beautify myself for my own satisfaction of me and not to please the criticizing eyes of most people just to attract a better judgment of me. Read on…
