In an article I wrote at my tech blog, I gave a brief overview as to what this domain, infi8.com, is all about.
A few weeks ago, I registered infi8.com to provide family and friends blogs powered by WordPress, including email addresses powered by Google, courtesy of Google Apps. My first “victim” is my younger sister, now blogging at eis.infi8.com. And that’s pretty much about it. Until I decided to create another blog, one that would host all my personal entries that doesn’t have any relation to WordPress or anything technically inclined. And now, I have two blogs to maintain. One for others, and another, just for me.
And that’s basically it. infi8.com is a host for family and friends who want to use a more robust and highly configurable, highly personalized website by using WordPress as the CMS, blogging platform, or whatever people may choose to call it. Not only that, infi8.com also provides an email address powered by GMail. With WordPress as your CMS and GMail powered email addresses, managing your site and messages is a breeze.
But why the name infi8.com? For me, infi is short for infinity, or infinite, which represents the Internet, or the possibilities and opportunities it offers. And the number 8, well, it simply looks like the symbol for infinity. That would be the reason why I chose the name infi8.com.
Of course, infi8.com is not open to the public, as WordPress, along with a MySQL database, have to be installed and configured, and FTP access created for the user. I’m reserving the space for family and friends. However, if you want to be hosted here, all you have to do is send an email to will [at] infi8 [dot] com with the subject “Application” and simply write an essay on “why you deserve a blog at infi8.com” in 200 words or more. I’m opening 10 slots for those unknown or not related to me. If qualified, posting requirements would be three posts a week. Quality posts, that is. What’s the use of having a site if you don’t have quality content to provide your readers. Also, you will get a subdomain and complete control over your space. Just make sure you don’t infringe any copyrighted material and we’ll get along just fine.
