I’m making up for missing all those times by checking out some movies I’ve missed. Also, I’ve got a huge queue of unwatched movies sitting on my hard drive – I seriously need to free up disk space. I guess wasting my time writing reviews won’t hurt a bit since I’ve got nothing better to do.

I officiated the weddding of one of our batchmates. In attendance was the former secretary of finance, who was also of our batch. At the time he was already working in Singapore for a transnational firm. We were all gathered literally in one corner of the reception hall. But he didn’t mind being there. His behavior came to my mind as I read this Sunday’s gospel (22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time C)
Sino nga ba ako?
This week two noteworthy events involving the Philippines made headlines: the botched rescue of Chinese tourists taken hostage by a disgruntled former policeman, and a botched response to a question by Miss Philippines in the finals for the Miss Universe contest. You might ask, what do these two things have in common? Separately, not much, but taken together, they represent both the peril and promise of the Philippines today.

I am deeply saddened by what happened on Monday with the hostage crisis. It was a tragic event that did not have to happen. It could have been easily prevented had the people in charged been more careful and did their homework.
The Philippines now has a black eye caused by the incident and the international community has pretty much condemned the country for its tragic mistake. It’s not just one, but several tragic mistakes.
The first one being President Noynoy Aquino being incommunicado during all of this. Hong Kong Administrator Donald Tsang tried to contact President Noynoy Aquino but was unable to reach him. Hong Kong residents and officials are mad because of Manila’s failure to update them of the situation as it was happening.

yesterday’s hostage scene raked so much criticism from Filipinos (and the world alike). it was so dismaying you couldn’t help but sigh of disbelief. some IT folks found this intriguing and to perhaps show disgust, they created a game out of it!

Getting into heaven is serious business. But it’s not something to be given to you in a silver platter. Jesus said you have to agonize over it. (21st Sunday in Ordinary Time – C)
I’ve never been a huge fan of location sharing services. Yeah, I have a Foursquare account, but I checked in only once, and I was drunk. I quickly lost interest in updating the goddamn site, along with my will to live. I don’t know about you, but telling the world that you’re eating in this restaurant isn’t exactly my idea of fun. Also, I’ve done my fair share of oversharing on Twitter already “WHY DOES IT BURN WHEN I PEE DAMMIT” and sharing the place where I commit yet another hilarious misdeed to yet another major internal organ isn’t going to make my followers any more uncomfortable than they are now.
However, this newfangled Facebook Places thing is pretty interesting, if you ask me. You see, Facebook Places lets you check in to different places, just like a rich DOM and a college student with no tuition money the many location sharing services available right now, but with a twist: in the spirit of privacy violation that Facebook has been committed to doing for the longest time, Facebook Places lets you tag your friends to various locations – and they can do the same to you.

Nachman & Associates, P.C. Participates in the 2010 Teaneck International Film Festival.
Nachman & Associates will sponsor the movie Entre Nos, which is being shown as part of the Teaneck International Film Festival this fall. Following the screening of Entre Nos, a panel discussion lead by Managing Attorney, David Nachman, Esq. will feature commentary about the film and about the changing face of immigration laws across the United States. Mr. Nachman has been practicing Immigration Law for over a decade and speaks frequently about nonimmigrant visas and green cards to groups of business professionals across the tri-state area and internationally.
The featured film, Entre Nos, is the story of Mariana (Paola Mendoza) and her children Gabriel, 10, and Andrea, 6. Together, they take us on a remarkable journey where we bear witness to a family’s commitment to survival and their unrelenting hope for the American dream. Entre Nos is inspired by the real life drama of Paola Mendoza’s mother’s arrival in United States. After years of hearing the account and absorbing its implications, Paola realized she was ready to bring the heartbreaking but ultimately inspiring tale to the screen.

VERY FEW people are aware of it, but we are going to have a new set of peso bills very, very soon. We may be giving our godchildren the new bills as gifts this Christmas. The present set of paper Philippine currency will be phased out. New coins will be issued later.
The question is, why is the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) doing this secretly and hastily? The nation is totally unaware of what will happen to their money or how the new money will look like. Malacañang, Congress and the Supreme Court did not know anything about it beforehand. The BSP claims that it is an independent entity and can do anything it wants. In other words, it is the fourth branch of government, a co-equal of the executive, legislative and judicial branches. To get a favorable reaction from President Aquino, the images of his parents, Ninoy and President Cory, will be in the P500 note. But no one, except insiders and a privileged few, have seen the designs.
