“Happy birthday to you.” Do you know that the Jewish feast of Pentecost is also the birthday of the Church? And that the birth of the Church happened only because of the coming of the Holy Spirit? Pentecost Sunday

Earlier today, my 3 year old son walked up to me with a folded Ben Ten card and a round piece of a rubber mat (that we use on the floor of the kids playroom) and was doing the act of putting on powder. He was holding the card like a compact.
My first reaction was to laugh but instead I asked him what he was doing. He said, he was putting on powder in a matter-of-fact tone. I then followed with “Only Mommy’s do that!”. That was what came out of me as I felt the girls vs. boys thing was too complicated for such a young mind. Besides he can learn the physical difference later on.
Twitter, the micro-blogging sensation just stated that from web they are now ready to jump-ship to TV via it’s very own twitter-based show.

Every weekend, my bandmates and I meet up in one of those coffee shops scattered in the metro. Aside from playing Gino Padilla’s “Closer You And I” ad nauseam, we also try to write songs.
My bandmates, in my opinion, are badass songwriters. They can take one mundane situation like “I was about to cross the road when this jeepney stops in front of me and wouldn’t let me pass; the driver parked there for a good two minutes, blocking my way, until he realized that I wasn’t going to ride his stupid jeepney” into a pretty tight song:
Finally.
UNESCO finally weighed in on the matter:
“The UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines expresses its objection to the imposition of taxes on imported books and other reading materials. This action is a blatant violation of the provisions of the 1950 Florence Agreement on the Importation of Educational, Scientific and Cultural Materials of which the Philippines is a signatory as of 07 August 1979. Article 1 of the Agreement provides, “The contracting States undertake not to apply customs duties or other charges on, or in connection with, the importation of (a) books, publications and documents…; (b) educational, scientific and cultural materials…”
John Donaldson, UNESCO Senior Legal Officer based in Paris, stresses, ‘The Philippines, as a Party to the Florence Agreement, must respect the principle Pacta sunt servanda. This fundamental principle of the law of treaties, enshrined in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties of 1969, provides that treaties in force are binding upon the parties and must be performed in good faith. It follows that if the Philippines decides to apply custom duties or other charges on the importation of materials coming from another State Party, and for which the Florence Agreement foresees an exemption, it will be in breach of its obligations under this Agreement.’ “
I was so looking forward to importing a book and then using that occasion to a random lifestyle check on our Customs Officials. It looks like we need a new way to do it!

Charice Pempengco who goes by the name “Charice” now released her first US single “Note to God” on May 18, 2009 and just 6 days later lands on the Top 100 iTunes popular downloads chart at number 55! She beats even Jordin Sparks’ single “Battlefield” released on the same day at number 72. She is currently at the number 7 spot in Amazon.com’s own Top 100 MP3 songs. She has been in the Top 100 charts for six days. That is very hard to maintain considering Charice is competing with big worldwide names in the music industry! Impressive.
Deja vu?! Well, the circumstances fifty years ago were a bit different, but those complaining about “The Great Book Blockade of 2009″ should read “Bookselling In Manila” (pdf; registration required but it’s free!), a 1960 article by Joaquin Po, who was then owner and manager of Popular Bookstore and president of the Philippine Bookseller’s Association. Summer this year has been extremely hot and humid that most days, I find it discouraging to eat anything (believe it!). Truthfully, our usual homemade fare, like Chicken Afritada, or even Adobo feels hot and heavy to the imagination. So I do my best to think up dishes that would feel light enough to eat at the same time not too hard to make.
Most of us in the Philippines don’t get our bonuses til Christmas season. Some of us get it quarterly or in the middle of the year.
I work for a company that has paid out bonuses both in the middle and at the end of the year. They basically split the 13th month bonus (a mandatory gov’t benefit) in half. The first half is given to the employee at the end of May, so that employees with kids could pay for enrollment and other school fees. The other half is given on the first payday of December just in time for Christmas shopping.
Inferiority complex is a psychological burden. Basically it a lack of self-esteem. The person is convinced that he is good for nothing. He feels that he is ‘inutil’. Are you? Ascension

I was thinking of what to do for my youngest son’s birthday celebration when I saw an ad for Ocean Adventure on TV a few weeks ago. My son squealed “Dolphins! Dolphins!” and I knew our trip was set at that instant.
I didn’t know anyone who had been there so I turned to my best friend, the Internet, and did my best to find out more about what the place had to offer. Although the place had their own website, and I found quite a few blogs who have written about their experience, I couldn’t get an overall picture about what I need to prepare, what I need to do, and what exactly I would see when I get there.
I was diggin’ into my hard drive and realized I have tons of New York City photos that I haven’t blogged about. It was a short vacation during Thanksgiving last year. A colleague reminded me that I wouldn’t have gone to NYC if I haven’t been to… [read more]
