Notes on Holy Week

span rel=”1785″ class=”front-ed-the_content front-ed”pI started this Holy Week thing with high hopes. This year, I hoped to start reflecting and doing some inner discovery stuff like that. I mean, after the major fail that was a href=”http://blog.ademagnaye.com/2008/03/23/holy-week-and-me/”last year/a, I’d rather do something positive for myself for once. And by positive, I mean anyhing that gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, not unlike wanking off. Except that I’ll try not to wank off./p pI failed./p pDon’t get me wrong. Also, don’t judge me. I tried really hard to be a good citizen last week, but really, the internet wouldn’t let me. Also, I’ve discovered a new way to shift the blame of whatever bad shit I do: I blame the internet. You should try it too. a href=”http://fleshasiadaily.com/category/saaya-irie/”Saaya Irie/a pictures giving you weird tingly crotchal feelings about underage girls? Blame it on the web. Reading about the Manson family giving you the urge to do a similar killing spree? Internet. Strange urge to go limpwristed and to speak in a href=”http://blog.ademagnaye.com/2007/11/07/rejected-filipino-dubs-harry-potter/”swardspeak/a for the rest of your life? Interemfucking/emnet. There’s an upcoming movie this April starring Ali Larter (Heroes, Resident Evil) and Beyonce Knowles (you know her), which seems like the kind of movie I wanna watch. Simply because I wanna know some things that the trailer never tell yet.

Watch the Trailer now…

Here is a classic sample of an Erap adage, ‘Don’t judge a book if you are not a judge’.

The clip is from the first episode of Britain Got Talent 2009, where Susan Boyle, a 47 yr old woman made a surprising display of talent. Honestly, when I saw this clip, I was thinking that this is probably one of those type of viral clips like the Bulgarian Idol who sang the “Ken Lee” by Mariah Carey. But unlike that performance, Susan Boyle’s performance is an ‘In your face!’ type of performance. Go click the play button and watch for yourself.[Read more]

Slimming Naturally

Monday
Apr 13,2009

Tons of people worry on how to unload those excess baggage, getting rid of flab – slimming.
Going by today’s standards, to be slim is to be attractive. to look lean and mean with firm muscles is the anxiety which results in making aerobic and other fitness centers thrive as a booming business. Fitness programs with treatments compete for your hard-earned money, all promising to make you shed 20 to 30 unwanted pounds. Fat burners and slimming teas abound in the shelves of health food stores. Those without patience with the programs get an instant liposuction, surgical shortening of the small intestines or sewing of the stomach so to be smaller.

Weight loss actually is not a big problem with which to be burdened. To lose that excess weight is desirable, not just for superficial reason  of so-called beauty standards. Actually, it is quite sad that people see others on the basis of the person within that body.
But be sure to lose that excess weight because having more fat in the body slows one down , invite diseases, and cause fatigue. Please consider that the first reason why one may be over-eating, though. Is it due to some emotional problem, or some glandular disorders? From there you can adopt a program for a more healthy living

Attention to diet is crucial. Your body is the result of your current eating habits. If your body is sickly or heavy on the scale, introduce changes gradually. Changing to a new good diet should not mean making abrupt stressful adjustment. You must be aware of the desirable and undesirable food identity.

Stay away from sweets, salty, fatty processed foods. You don’t have to live on a monotonous unpolished rice and veggies either. Fad diet are not the answer either to obesity or bad health. It deprive the body of essential nutrients and lower the body’s metabolic rate. What is needed is establishing a good ratio of nutrients by choosing good quality foods.

The index had a short stint of selling action on the last days of March which brought the index down to the low of 1965 which is the area of the 130 day MA (orange line). The last trading day for that week had the index running a white candle with relatively large volume. On the following week, the index continued where it left off from Apr 3 and continued with its upward movement. [Read more>>]

Banana Ice Cream Pie

I have always loved Banana Cream Pie since the day I tasted it way back when I was in the states. I was not used to pies then and am still not used to them. Here in Manila, the closest I have had to a real pie were the time I actually made an apple pie at home, and the other when we ate at Bag of Beans, which had the best apple-pie I have tried. You would notice I mentioned apples not because they were my favorite but they were of my hubby’s. Go figure.

I woke up a few mornings ago reminded that it’s not how hard you work, it’s how smart you work. Getting chores done just for the sake of getting them done is not always the best way to go. To truly accomplish something worthwhile, you have to focus on what you want and work backwards to achieve it. Figure out what your objective is and create steps that lead up to its completion. For instance, I have a client who goes a million miles an hour doing everything she can to get work off of her desk. She just starts with what’s on top of the pile and works her way down. But what in the pile is really relevant? urgent? important? And what about emails?

I would venture to say the tasks she has to do fit somewhere on a continuum of ‘somewhat important’ to ‘very important’, but not all of them are urgent (there are some folks out there, however, who have only a stack of urgent work).

Once she sorts out tasks that can be unloaded, she can focus on what is most core to her business. She will be freed up to work smart – being creative and innovative.

By focusing on getting rid of her busywork (working hard) allowing her to focus energy on growing her business (working smart), she will be much happier completing her objective.

Why Philippines?

Sunday
Apr 12,2009

I love the Philippines. I love the Philippines when it comes to handling voice support and business process outsourcing. Why?

- Large English-speaking population
- Lower infrastructure costs
- Government support
- Strong IT services industry
- Call center environment
- U.S. business hours (24 hour support also)
- Overnight turnarounds
- Similar financial and legal systems to the U.S.
- Filipino and Western culture affinity

I could go on. I’m sure I will in a future post.

I was hesitant at first to start writing this post because I expect many would resent the fact that I dare complain about something many women actually pay to have. But its been a while and I have heard others complain of the same thing. So here goes. There are times, I wish I had a normal sized bosom. By normal, I mean similar to the majority of the local females who are able to buy stylish underwear without having to save a month’s worth of wages (an exaggeration as I assume you know).

Privacy, Yes! Negativity, No!

Saturday

I really don’t understand why some online sellers post the details of their transactions — like the buyer’s full name and what he/she bought. If I were the buyer, I certainly would not want that. It’s like going to the mall and buying something, and the saleslady going to the PA system and announcing to everyone “Attention! Miss Jane Doe just bought panties sized XXL.”

One more thing that turns me off is the negativity of many sites. It’s common to see statements like “If you can’t pay blah blah blah, then don’t bid/buy.” Then there are halls of shame and blog posts declaring war against bogus buyers.

Last week, my father suffered a heart attack. He has diabetes and all the complications that come with it, but you never really think about close calls until it actually happens to you. We have always talked about preparing for the inevitable and we all (mom and us kids) agree that my dad has lived a full life. But you realize how unprepared you really are when you get a phone call in the middle of the night and you have a crying hysterical sister on the other end telling you to rush to the hospital where the doctors are trying to save your father.

For most of the Filipino working class, the usual scenario is that you spend most of your time working your ass off.

Every day, you wake up six in the morning; eat a quick breakfast of instant noodles, and after that, you spent 30 to 45 minutes commuting to work. And then you spend most of your day in the office. Sometimes you may do routine office tasks, while sometimes you may be out doing fieldwork or sales work.

And then finally, you get home early in the evening. <a href=”For most of the Filipino working class, the usual scenario is that you spend most of your time working your ass off.

As far as I can remember, it started out second semester of school year 1999-2000. I was compelled to do it, because of unemployment. And perhaps due to boredom and the thrill that I missed so much. Well, I just did it with the feeling of curiosity and not minding if I can go on finishing it.
