So, I haven’t touched this blog for the longest time. But since I’ve already started a tradition of posting my favorite songs of the year (plus, I’ve got lots of not-at-work time to spare), I can’t not do the same for 2008. Like the previous years’ top 10, not all of these were released in 2008. And of course, this list is based purely on personal enjoyment. Check out the list in my blog.
Are you like me? Do you wish you had the perfect body? You know, ample perky breasts, cute little booty and toned abs like you worked out regularly? Ok keep wishing. Well for those who ARE like me, then a little bulge should not hinder us from being our most fashionable or most confident (my hubby is actually looking at me right now like I’m being weird or something – Men!).
Okay.
Maybe there’s a better word to describe 2008 for Filipino music? Lackluster?
Payong as BEST SONG OF THE YEAR for 2008?
NOT TO DIS the singer or the song (Ms. Ganda is church-mate and I love the “redeemed” lyrics)
But C’mon. Read it again.
“…There were hits. Bamboo kept the rock flame alive and he had Kailan. Also okay were Callalily’s Ako’y Babalik, Hale’s Leaf of Faith, 6Cyclemind’s Saludo, Betamax by Sandwich and Parokya ni Edgar’s Akala. But that was the problem. They were just okay. We had no Narda by Kamikazee or Pinoy Ako by Orange & Lemons, Spagheti by Sex Bomb or even a Pagdating ng Panahon by Aiza Seguerra, songs from the past that really took the country by storm…”
I could think of several hits – Betamax by Sandwich, Yugto by Rico Blanco, Buhay ng Gangstah by OG Sacred of the Tribu Boys (hey they have almost 3 MILLION hits on YouTube!). In fact that’s why there was QLE Awards because THERE WAS TOO MANY SONGS, BANDS and ALBUMS that was WORTH MENTIONING for 2008! We could argue that 2008 was a GOLDEN YEAR for OPM as Cris Ramos points out in his Golden Brown article:
“… 2008 has been a year so great for local music that even with the long list below, a lot of these same albums could have placed higher if they had been released in most of the previous years and a lot of other releases were left out. In a year where musicians have learned the values of guerrilla marketing and the virtues of the Internet, they relied much less on major labels. 2008 was truly an outstanding year where new albums were released virtually every week. The downside of this, of course, is that this list will probably get more violent reactions than ever before. Some of the good stuff are bound to be left out. But hey, the point is to go out there and make your own…”
I’d also like to re-quote Erwin Romulo (who is all QLE-d out by now hahaha) from his REAL ARTICLE, that got re-posted from Luis Katigbak blog title appopriately enough, THIS IS OUR TRUTH, TELL US YOURS:
“…This year, there was so much great music released locally that a couple of us—namely, music lovers Luis Katigbak and Quark Henares—decided that we should make up our own awards to point out the stuff that was regrettably overlooked by others. Let me offer apologies that we couldn’t think of a better title for it but let the winners be our saving grace. In any case, we did this for nothing more than love of music—and only that. No, we certainly didn’t agree on everything but that’s how these things go, especially with how opinionated we all are. What’s important is that we explain to you our choices and not just dish them out with no one the wiser. But then again, anyone who still wants to argue can buy each of us coffee and we’ll gladly discuss. After all, this is our truth; what’s yours?…”
And just to respond to their inspiration, I even came out with my own QLE Hommage and an interview to boot.
So there.
So for every article like this that comes out:
We hope there’s one like this that comes out:

I know several people who would probably disagree (make that a lot) but if I were asked to choose between Jollibee or McDonalds, I would have to say McDonalds. Although it is not my first choice, it will do since it is admittedly one of the most accessible fast food joints in the metro.
MANILA – Philippine Airlines is again reducing its fuel surcharge on selected domestic and international flights effective January 1, 2009, to reflect the decline in oil prices in world markets.
The reduction will be up to $45 on some international flights and up to P100 for most domestic sectors. PAL will likewise reduce by P1 per kilo the fuel surcharge imposed on domestic cargo.
For PAL flights originating from the Philippines to international points, the surcharge will be lowered by as much as $45 per flight.
For PAL domestic and PAL Express flights between Manila and other domestic points, the surcharge will further drop by P100 for most sectors.

my last post about DTI’s website being hacked prompted me to do some research on internet viruses and worms.

according to snowplow.org, the term “worm” originated from a science fiction story called “The Shockwave Rider” written by John Brunner in 1975. the story is about a totalitarian government that controls its citizens through a powerful computer network. a freedom fighter infests this network with a program called a “tapeworm” forcing the government to shut down the network, thereby destroy its base of power.
