“Fallacy (pl. fallacies): In logical arguments, fallacies are either formal or informal. Because the validity of a deductive argument depends on its form, a formal fallacy is a deductive argument that has an invalid form, whereas an informal fallacy is any other invalid mode of reasoning whose flaw is not in the form of the argument.”

Chunky Monkey is a member of my favourite brainless forum, ManilaTonight. This person isn’t new though. And for reasons that I will not enumerate here, I suspect Chunky Monkey to be an alter-ego of another idiot whom I have written about (*ehem* Negative Numbers *ehem*). But enough of introductions because who this person really is isn’t important. It’s what’s posted by this person in “public” that is worthy of rememberance.

But briefly, this encounter stemmed from a thead called Biblical Fallacies, where people have only enumerated inconsistencies (and generally ideas in bad taste) in some passages in the Bible and went on to flaming each other. I thought it would be nice to remind those people what fallacies actually are and how many of the posts made in the thread exemplify fallacies of one kind or another— the old Argumentum ad Hominem, is of course, very popular.

Affidavit of Loss (sample)

Monday

I never thought that losing something like your company ID might be a headache in the process. You need to submit a formal statement stating the loss of the said thing. And to submit an AFFIDAVIT of LOSS is definitely a requirement. It was too unfortunate that our company is issuing new proximity IDs and we need to surrender our old ones. I have nothing to do but to secure an AFFIDAVIT of LOSS and pay Php 300 for the replacement. Learning that I need to, I researched online for samples of such affidavit and what other requirements it might need. Thanks to the help of my office mates who gave me an idea on how to make one.

ISSUE:

Forgot Windows Administrator Password

If that’s your only problem, then you probably have nothing to worry about. As long as you have your Windows XP CD, you can get back into your system using a simple but effective method made possible by a little known access hole in Windows XP.

This method is easy enough to follow – it doesn’t require using the Recovery Console or any complicated commands. You can easily change or wipe out your Administrator password for free during a Windows XP Repair.

SOLUTION:

Here’s how with a step-by-step description of the initial Repair process :

One of the most intense discussions in this one Pinoy message board is about Pinoys giving up on our beloved country. Times have been a bit hard, with the global increase in oil prices, and the Philippines, with its people being “not so rich”, is in pain.

The transport sector’s screaming for a price hike, hitting directly the general public. Even the “rich guys” have started to ride the train just so they could save on gas. Things really are tight, so, it’s no wonder why some Pinoy are slowly losing hope.

I am elated that the World Youth Day festivities ended successfully in Sydney yesterday. I now pray for the safe return of Pope Benedict XVI to the Vatican and young participants to their respective countries.

I brought this matter up because in the Toronto edition of this Catholic youth conclave in 2002, many Filipino youth did not return home. I personally know of some Davao delegates who stayed in Canada and others who slipped into the US and stayed there as TNT (tago ng tago) or illegally.

The Dark Knight

There’s this thing about raised expectations. I remember when I spent a year anticipating Spider-Man 3, following every single bit of news about it. My expectations were raised to an all-time high when watched it. Then I got Peter Parker dancing in the streets. Boo.

Which brings us to The Dark Knight. I’ve been so stoked by Batman Begins that I was looking for a sequel already the moment I saw it. So imagine me expecting a movie for three years. The goddamn expectations alone are giving me a nosebleed.

Basically, I was expecting too much of The Dark Knight that I was afraid that it was going to suck. More »

In Naruto, ninjas were able to perform amazing feats that are beyond human because of their chakra. It’s something like a chi, or spiritual energy which ninjas can tap into to do special techniques. According to the story, a chakra is the resulting form of energy produced when Physical and Spiritual energies are mixed together within the body. Then to use it, Hand Seals are performed. This allows the user to expel it out the body in the form of an attack, and requires different Hand Seals for different attacks. Everyone is born with their chakra; but no body is born with the knowledge to use it to perform special attacks; except for a select few who can wield it through instinct or sheer will alone. To be able to use it, one should undergo rigorous and intensive ninja training.

Not all ninjas share the same type of chakra. There are five different types of chakra: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Lighting. It’s like an affinity to the elements sort of thing. When you have the Fire type, you’ll be able to manipulate the fire element and everything associated with it with ease. The same goes with water type and the water element; and so on and so forth. Here comes the interesting part. Although subject to one’s ideas about blogging, I’d like to believe that your blogging energies share the same type of affinities as the chakras used in Naruto. Your blogging chakra separates you from the others and at the same time helps you execute blogging techniques that keep your blog alive. It’s very much debatable or discreditable depending on your discretion; but let’s just assume. What if it’s so?

The Dark Knight Review

The Dark Knight is the bomb!

Truth be told, Im not a Batman fan (although Ive seen the other movies), having decided to see The Dark Knight only because of papa Heath, and the whole Joker hype that was created. But man, I was transformed, and there was never a superhero, comic book film ever created, that’s as realistic as this one. Nolan succeeds in transforming fiction to non-fiction, in a sense that Batman and Joker now look more “real” than ever. The Dark Knight screams as a metaphor to our society, where criminals know no morals, who would kill just for the fun of it.

It maybe Gotham City in the movie, but it could be just about wherever in our “real” world… (click here for the rest of the story)

Myron’s Place

There are just a few places that stick to my mind when I think of steak – Alfredo’s (but I no longer remember the last time I was there), Larry’s Bar (which no longer serves Filet Mignon), and Steaktown in Shangri-La Mall (salad buffet – yummy!). One in particular caught my fancy when I was strolling along Mall of Asia. It was called Highlands Steakhouse. I did not try it at that time as I knew a meal cost an arm and a leg (about Php1500++). I haven’t gone to any of those places now and the last steak meal that I had left me disappointed.

No weekend play for Angelo Que

Sorry folks, Angelo Que did not make the cut.

He won a consolation prize though – valuable experience!

He actually started his second round at the British Golf Open quite brilliantly. A birdie at the 5th after a string of four opening pars placed him tied at the top 50 players. At this point, he was four strokes better than his start the previous day. Then lightning struck.

New Relationships, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Tell me if you haven’t felt this when starting a new relationship after a series of failed ones: your past failures, whether real or imagined, will always come back to haunt you. Granted, the new girlfriend will most definitely be not be like my exes (Psychotic stalker-ish otaku ex? Psuedo-fashionista with absolutely no fashion sense at all and with an IQ of a turnip? Come on), but still, everyone comes from a string of failed relationships, and we all can’t help but blame ourselves from time to time.

Lemme ask you guys, who here hasn’t been through a shitty relationship before? We all get the urge to start a new one, but in the back of our head, we’d all have fears and insecurities every now and then. More »

Do food automatically appear good or taste delicious if your stomach happens to be growling? I have heard myself say that during those times when its way past lunchtime and I buy myself whatever is available in the cafeteria – for hunger more than anything else. I have heard others think that out loud too. And because it happens every time (I am hungry), I assume that nothing will taste bad to me at this state.

Angelo Que better than past champs

Friday
Jul 18,2008

Filipino ace Angelo Que made a remarkable start at his maiden major tournament at the 137th British Open Golf championships last night (RP Time).

After opening with a bogey with the jitters I suppose, he evened the next two holes and found himself sharing the leaderboard at No. 8. Even for just this brief moment, he was in the Top 10!

As it was past midnight, I went to bed with a happy smile with this in my dream:
