This is a question that has never stopped nagging me since the very first time I left this country eleven years ago. It is one thing seeing it on television growing up, it is another being in the First World yourself. Explanations by the likes of F. Sionil Jose – which basically say we are poor because of our culture – is simply unsatisfactory. Read here.
WordPress and WordPress.com are Automattic products, while Movable Type and TypePad are SixApart products. These two companies are fierce competitors for the blogging platform crown, but here’s a surprise: you can actually use two of their plugins for the “opposing camp”. Continue reading the whole post…
Since the only thing constant in this world is change, I need to change my plans for our annual trip to the Philippines next year. In 6 months we will be in the Philippines again (I know we just arrived a few weeks ago and I have not finished posting everything about that trip) but my only sister is getting married in early January so we have to go home. The problem is my husband will start a new job and cannot go on a long vacation. So, I have to cancel my long awaited trip to Caramoan and El Nido. This time we have no time for adventures. Now, we have only 10 days to spend in the Philippines instead of the normal 25 and I have no idea where to go. help me…

Ringo.com (PageRank 6, Alexa rank 2,683), the US based online photo and video sharing con social networking site is ending its services soon. I could very well see why! There’s not enough there to survive in the social networking world that’s Myspace (PR 8, Alexa 6), Friendster (PR 7, Alexa 41) and Facebook (PR 9, Alexa 7) territory. Their traffic is not comparable and way below that of the big 3. Not even to that of smaller sites like Linkedin (PR 8, Alexa 201), Bebo (PR 7, Alexa 109), MyYearbook (PR 6, Alexa 832), Orkut (Google site, No PR set, Alexa 2), Tagged (PR 6, Alexa 192), etc.

Garbage may be a dirty business to some, but for the many people (and communities) who have earned from it, it is big business. The Recyclables’ Collection Event (of the Earthday Network Philippines, the Philippine Business for the Environment, DENR, and many other organizations) has collected over three milion — P3,143,345.00 worth of recyclables (monetary equivalent) to be exact, from garbage.
Three million is a big amount of money, and though the RCE group is in it for advocacy, you too, can do it, and earn.

Some eGroups that I don’t understand & It’s importance! I recently joined this new affiliate marketing yahoo based egroup (affiliatemarketersphilippines@yahoogroups.com) because the group looks promising and a good venue to brainstorm with newbie and season affiliate marketers. Well, it was good knowing that a couple of numbers joined and a few newbies are not hesitant on throwing questions to the group specially the moderator, but sometimes the kind of culture that this type of egroups is the culprit as to why others left or why most egroups fail. A desired culture tailored according to the egroups rules and regulation is a very powerful tool in attracting/retaining potential and seasoned members on every particular niche, and can be your competitive edge in surviving the war for acquiring potential market base. The way I see it, some marketers out there just created various types of egroups just to acquire marketing touch points for their respective businesses.

For a person like me who has been traveling frequently. I know how the regular security measures are being implemented. And I understand why they are doing this. I don’t mind getting frisked at the airports, or taking off my footwear before getting inside the pre-departure area. I know they are part of security measures.
But what happened to me at the Bacolod Airport is different. CONTINUE HERE

Saving money is a discipline. Discipline with saving up isn’t something I automatically developed as my parents taught me the ins and outs of personal finance. Truth is, I took after my dad who has almost zero skills in saving money. It was my mom who really knew how to handle finances and save for a rainy day. She helped me open my first bank account, which I ended up closing just because I used up all my funds. Mom would literally nag me into opening new accounts but I was always short of cash and could not maintain a bank account’s minimum balance. When I started my own business, money kept going out of my checking account but not in. I lost again. I was spending exactly what I was earning with absolutely no concept of trying to turn a profit out of a business or saving a small portion of a salary. Everything cash went somewhere else — away from any bank account or even piggy bank for that matter.
I got this very, very interesting piece of news over at the Nigerian Tribune:
WHAT could be described as a fairy tale turned real on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as a cat allegedly turned into a middle-aged woman after being hit by a commercial motorcycle (Okada) on Aba/Port Harcourt Expressway.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that three cats were crossing the busy road when the okada ran over one of them which immediately turned into a woman. This strange occurrence quickly attracted people around who descended on the animals. One of them, it was learnt, was able to escape while the third one was beaten to death, still as a cat though.
According to a source who witnessed what happened, the cat-woman said she and the two other cat-fellows had travelled from Abuja to Port Harcourt to kill three people. “The woman said they came to Port Harcourt from Abuja and that they came to kill three people. She said they had succeeded in killing two people, but the third person, whom I guess might be a pastor, was difficult for them and that they were preparing to go back to Abuja,” said the source.
…Right.
Let me stop for a moment and let it sink first. Think about it. An assassin. A cat assassin. A cat assassin that turns into a woman. A cat assassin woman being given police protection to prevent the mob from getting to her.

I know. ZOMGOMGWTFRITE?
A cat turning into Halle Berry. I totally believe.

Ever since PinoyRak started blogging about PTCs (Paid to Click Sites), I have also started looking around for good ones that really pay. Admittedly, PTCs make very little money if you have no downline or referrals from your referral links. I’ve tried a few sites and what really amazes me is that some one them do give a payout of as little as 2 cents!
