For three days and 2 nights, I explored the breathtaking Coron in the province of Palawan. The quiet town of Coron is part the Calamian Group of Islands or the Calamianes.
The Calamian Group of Islands is comprised of the Busuanga Island, where the town of Coron is located, the Coron Island, the former leper colony Culion Island, and several smaller islands.

Joaquin usually jokes around that I blogged more about Ploning than his short film, “Bulong”. Well for one thing, it would be good if he had a trailer so that people would at least “buzz” about it. Well, we don’t need it now. Now that “Bulong” has been screened in Cannes and has won in China, I’m sure there will more interest about it. So here’s some blog love for Bulong. Leave a comment in Joaquin’s Multiply

Consider the Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947, a beast made for sound and fury:
Anyone with a nominally decent grasp of the action movie genre would know it as the AK-47, or possibly as the Kalashnikov. Fully automatic, it spits out 7.62 millimeters of pure death at a rate of 600 rounds per minute and with a maximum effective range of about 400 meters. The M67 projectile that erupts from the its barrel was designed to blossom in human flesh at 13 centimeters from the point of entry, causing massive tissue trauma, substantial organ damage, and a particularly nasty exit wound. Due to its unsurpassed durability and reliability, it quickly became the standard infantry rifle of the Red Army and is still currently used by most of the member states of the former Warsaw Pact. It is the favored thunderstick of irascible mujahideen, genocidal warmongers, Third World hordes, European extremists, and communist firebrands. It was this implement of destruction, this potent totem of human wrath in the blood-encrusted fists of an angry and desperate peasant that turned a ragtag band of barefoot farm yokels into a formidable army that succeeded in driving the American war machine out of Vietnam. Truly, this primitive-looking union of wood and steel is one of the most terrifying instruments of warfare ever invented.
Nevertheless, awesome as the AK-47 may be, no one in his right mind would deign it fit to be used as a farming tool. Against flesh and bone it is undoubtedly the stuff of nightmares, but against the earth it is the dullest spade imaginable. Tools, like the men who make them, have their own natures. A thing that goes against its nature is liable to break. A plough taken into the battlefield will shatter beneath the hail of bullets. A rifle tied to a beast and dragged across rice paddies will rot in the mud.
A storysmith compelled to tell tales for which he cares little will lose his soul.
My US-based college buddy Mitz is feeling generous these days. He’s giving away 12 original copies of Journey’s new CD/DVD album Revelation to interested Philippines-based bloggers. The kicker: You don’t have to blog about it or express your undying love for newly-minted international rock star and Journey frontman Arnel Pineda. Just ask, and if you get lucky in the raffle, a copy will be sent to your address. Awesome deal, right?

Basically, keywords can do a lot of magic to your blog in terms of traffic through search engines. It is because search engines understand your blog through keywords. When someone tries to search for a certain keyword through Google, Yahoo, or MSN, it will show results of the sites they have indexed containing the word that someone is looking for. Depending on the keyword consistency of the page and the site as a whole, the search engines display their results according to the authority of the site on that particular keyword from the strongest to the weakest; where traffic, most of the time, is exclusive only to those who are displayed on the first to the tenth results page. By using keywords effectively in your posts, theoretically, you’ll increase your traffic from search engines because you’ll get your site displayed on the first five or ten search result pages of your keywords. At the same time, you’ll have audience who are interested in what you have to say or offer because you appeared in their searches.
The concept might be simple to look at from this point but, frankly, it is a lot of work. SEO practitioners call it “keyword research” which was first used on traditional websites. Bloggers adopted the idea because, basically, blogs are websites too but with a much different purpose compared to the traditional ones. The strategy behind the practice is basically building your site/blog or article around keywords to optimize it for search engine indexing. The question now is how to boost your traffic using keyword optimization? Here’s how…
Jesus was not only a renowned teacher (rabbi). He was also acclaimed a wonder-worker. He worked miracles. Even Herod wanted to see him work a miracle first-hand. John never calls them miracles. He prefers to call them signs. Why? 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
I love this song strangely because it quaintly brings me back to the simple things of life. It reminds me of the importance of appreciating the stops of life and the need to be thankful. Not at all celebrating the ordinary (which I often remember whenever I think of Neruda’s Ode to Simple Things), but it is simply being thankful for the things that we often take for granted and relegate to ordinariness. Greetings from Manila, Philippines!

Today, we’re celebrating 110 years of Philippine Independence. To commemorate this awesome anniversary, I think it’s just appropriate that I introduce to you Marvel’s first Filipino super-team, the Triumph Division, that debuted last week in Invincible Iron Man #2!

Rainy night wont be cold anymore as Robinsons Forum / Robinsons Bite heat them up with acoustic performances from “FRIO” and “PEDRO FILE“.
Being an Asian audience of western art, I always ask myself about the happenings in the Orient during the quattrocento. Southern Europe may boast of a Florentine Renaissance that saw the emergence of the likes of Leonardo da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raphael and Masaccio among others, but Asia, particularly the Philippines, may boast of a rich cultural heritage that produced the finest golden treasures that predated the quattrocento by at least 400 years. In every self defense situation, awareness is key. It is not enough to be just aware of your surroundings–that is the first step. Sometimes, people forget that aside from being conscious and aware of the environment, we must also have knowledge of defense strategies.
Knowing how to use your body in self defense is like carrying a deadly weapon, specially if you understand the extent of damage you can cause to someone who attacks you. Always use self defense techniques responsibly.

When Nokia Philippines, sent us an invite for Nokia ACTS (Artists Coming Together to Serve), I just had to come despite its Sunday afternoon schedule. Nokia ACTS is a collaboration between Nokia Philippines and the talented minds behind Rock Ed Philippines. It has built on the latter’s Project VIA (Volunteers Initiative for the Arts) whose primary goal is to teach underprivileged children how to either play musical instruments or train for voice via music camps.
“Through this program, we hope to make an impact in the lives of the children by giving them a chance to excel in something and a chance at a future profession,” says William Hamilton-Whyte, General Manager, Nokia Philippines. “We are glad to have partnered with Rock Ed Philippines who are very passionate in their belief that we should ‘educate to end poverty’.”

Worst Weekend: Four (4) days of LBM. I had a terrible experience this past weekend. In fact, this terrible experience is not yet over since I’m bringing it with me today at my desk! Forget about Lakers being a big looser in their Game 2 battle because I’m rooting for The Celts. Although I was a bit scared when Lakers tried to catch up in the final minutes but still I was confident that Celts will grab Game 2 because it’s a must for them since 3 next games will be in LA, that’s terrible if they can’t nail this one.
