When some people at 40 years old and up begin to experience that life is not the way they wanted it to be and they have little time to change it, when they are on the verge of perhaps a midlife crisis, how does one gets his biggest break at age 40?

And when he does get it, how does one process fame, (fortune!) and glory coming from very humble beginnings, from surviving as a struggling musician singing covers of other people’s hits and now to becoming a bona fide international rock star performing beside legendary and iconic band as a front man?! How? Try being Arnel Pineda!

His is a story that could have been taken out of a Charles Dickens novel and as Arnel Pineda himself admits in a GQ interview: “My life is a fairy tale. But I’m awake, and I’m dreaming it.” His is a story of perseverance, hope and never stop believing in yourself! Indeed this youthful 41 year-old is living his dream. He did his first concert with Journey before a huge crowd in Chile in February, performed in Las Vegas for the first time, finished a full recording album for worldwide release, guested in prime time US TV shows, featured in GQ magazine’s June 2008 issue, currently on tour in the United Kingdom and will be touring North America in the Summer! In a matter of six months, his whole world “changed for the better!” as one of his songs featured in the new album says.

“Coming Out Hair”, that’s what my friends call it. One asked if I already got fed up hiding in the closet, that I decided to “come out” by looking more butch than Aiza Seguerra. I don’t know what’s the big deal about it, really. I was tired of my long, damaged hair so I pretty much chopped it all off (not in a G.I. Jane kinda way, mmkay?) and ended up getting varied reactions from  people.

Being a Naruto fan myself, I believe one can pick-up a lot of lessons from him which you could apply in life, as well as blogging. To begin with, Naruto is a simple character, very predictable, but true to his intentions and goals. You could see through him because of his transparent character. Did I strike any chord about blogging? As homage to Naruto’s immense nine-tailed chakra, I came up with a list of 9 lessons from the anime series which could seriously help you in your path to being a better blogger. I’ll call it the “nine jutsus of blogging”. Here it goes:

1) Simplicity and humility

According to his creator, Masashi Kishimoto, Uzumaki Naruto was purposely created as a simple and straight forward character because he is not very much interested in smarter and sophisticated heroes. Being that, it’s easier for fans to understand and, perhaps, relate to him. Besides being simple, Naruto is also humble in his ways. He might be boisterous, but he never boasted about what he has achieved or looked down on his fellow ninjas based on their shortcomings because he understood that he has greater shortcomings himself.

I’ve been to Hong Kong three times now, within the first two quarters of this year. I’m getting used to flying business class as well. Takot ko rin namang hindi makasakay ano. Last weekend’s HKG trip with my CX friends was “Roster Magic,” as we call it, thanks to the Roster King Jerjer who was able to manipulate our schedules for six of us have weekends off.

My desire to become a SAHM has been the strongest today (and for the past few weeks) than ever before. I guess that is why work has not been too exciting lately. Well scratch that. Work has actually been very exciting but my passion has been dulled by physical and mental stress that all the action just flew over my head. So I watch my kids instead.
