Falling in love at a coffee shop

Wednesday
Apr 30,2008

I think that possibly, maybe I’m falling for you
Yes there’s a chance that I’ve fallen quite hard over you.

When at a loss for words, songs always come in and help define what you’re feeling, what you have to say. Cheers to brilliant songwriters. I came upon this song called “Falling in love at a coffee shop.” The title intrigued me. It was very visual, quite sensual actually. You can immediately imagine two strangers, or two long-time friends, talking over cups of coffee, the aroma of roasted coffee beans hanging in the air… then spark! Electricity shoots between them and there is a connection beyond friendship just made.

Why Bloggers Need to Join Blogsvine

Wednesday
Apr 30,2008

Get voted, get traffic, and get income. Those three reasons should sum it all I guess. I found this site through Entrecard. Yes, they’re really using entrecard. Blogsvine is a new social media site which gives you free blog promotion by submitting stories which its users vote on. The voting system is very much like Digg where your news gets more exposure when you’re voted more; just like its tagline: submit your blogs and start climbing. Currently, the site is still in its beta stage so there will still be more room for changes and further improvements.

American Disses Filipinos

What??? You said Americans invaded Philippines? What history book did you read that in? Who told you such nonsense? In the 1940′s Americans came here to SAVE your country and your people from Japanese invasion. We lost thousands of Americans to save your land and your people (many of our kids have no father, no brother, no uncle, no grandfater… and imagine how they feel when they read your comments about Americans “invading” Philips). It wasn’t the first time Americans came here to save your people and your country and it may not be the last time, so do not ever insult the Americans. More

lumantao.comI have just launched a new website for my accounting practice and consultancy. As mentioned in the website, my services will be geared towards small and medium enterprises, or SMEs, as well as online or internet ventures in the Philippines.

I believe that, unlike large companies which have huge accounting departments with ready access to established accounting and auditing firms, SMEs usually make do with the crudest record-keeping by its owners and managers as source of financial information.

4 Steps to Financial Freedom: ACQUIRE

Many of us open savings accounts in the hopes of being able to put some money away as life savings. This is where our 3rd step comes in:

STEP 3: ACQUIRE (money into your savings)

Don’t forget to save a fraction of any extra income you may earn. Many people stop at step two– then they start spending (I used to do that a lot)! Reserve a portion of your earning to be acquired into your bank account or time deposit.

iron man week

Like all great movie trilogies, the second movie has to live up to the first, and maybe even try to surpass it. It also has to build the story and the conflict for the third movie’s awesome finish. On top of all that, it has to stand on its own. It has to be a strong enough movie so it won’t feel like just a bridge connecting two towers of AWESOME. That’s a lot of responsibility for a movie. Thank God this isn’t a movie. This is the second part of Cinemabuzz, Comicology, and Face Rockery’s collaborative list of the 15 Best Comic Book Movies of All Time! HAHAHAHAaaaiiineed a drink.

Now, before we start, make sure you’ve read the first part of the list over at Cinemabuzz. If you haven’t done that yet, please do so now. … Done? Awesome. Let’s go.

My brother in law just had a tattoo on his back. Although I don’t know exactly what type of felid was that (looks like a black panther or a cougar to me) but it sure is scary in its own right.

Now I always considered of having a tattoo myself. Ever since getting my ear pierced in my freshman year in college I always thought of going under the needle and get myself a tattoo. I don’t know; maybe it’s because of my perception that it gives you a little bit of a machismo boost, especially if your skin is whiter than average enough to make an impression that you’re gay, and since when you were still little most of your uncles thought you were a little bit soft, and you’ve been a victim of bullying in school (most notably in fourth year high school when you’re supposed to be an officer in CAT but then most of your COCCs terrify you when you barked “Siyasat!” at them and they barked back at you at the same voice level and you can’t even give them a hell week for that because you only have power over them up until 5pm) because they thought you were just a little too soft too and there is one time you go to school with semen under your chin (you don’t remember if it’s yours, but it’s highly unlikely…that it was yours) and your schoolmates were like, “Shit Marvin, what’s all over your chin?” and you’re like, “Um, uh, it’s, um, glaze…yeah, I had a donut this morning.” So tattoo could give me that supposed boost. Tattoo can make me look a little bit more manly. Or so I thought.

Bored Ka Na Ba? Manood ng Ploning!

Monday
Apr 28,2008

If you’re looking for a great movie to watch this season, Ploning is a great movie to watch.

I was able to watch it last April 25, and it was just amazing. The last scenes had me bawling, and it wasn’t Gina Pareño’s tour de force moment of high drama.

What made the movie amazing were:

  • The cinematography.
  • Miss Judy Ann Santos’ subtle and alluring acting.
  • The beauty of Cuyo.
  • The fluidity of the story, the transitions, everything. It’s all like a dance!
  • How it sears you to the bone and yet leaves you with a light feeling.
  • It gives you something to think about.
  • It is NOT your usual Filipino film.

Looking for something to watch other than the usual brainless slapstick fare? Looking for a glimmer that Philippine Cinema is on the way to a renaissance? Ploning the Movie is one movie you shouldn’t let out of your list of movies to watch.

For more of what it was like, more incisive pre-showing and post-watching analyses, head on here.
