Last Tuesday nanumpa na ako sa harap ng hukom at naging citizen na ako ng Canada. Late 2006 ko pa ‘to napagdesisyunan at na-process lang lahat last year. So around June, nagpasa na ako ng application, tapos noong November, nag-exam na ako. First or second week of January this year dumating yung resulta at sinabing kelangan ko ngang mag-oathtaking. Zoobic Safari: from the clever to the kaloka

Went to Subic with friends two weekends ago, and had an unexpectedly good time at the Zoobic Safari. I have ambivalent feelings about zoos–under ideal conditions I’d want the animals uncaged and in their natural environments, but I can’t also deny the thrill I had every time I got to pet a lamb, or feed a friendly camel, or came really close to a huge tiger.

A number of animals at Zoobic are allowed to roam freely and interact with guests. While we were listening to the guide, a stately ram sauntered into the middle of the group and began nuzzling hands and bags. “Nakikichika din,” remarked a friend, laughing. The kids were in awe. There were also pigs, miniature horses, ostriches, lots of snakes and reptiles, even a few tarsiers and the Palawan mouse deer, the world’s smallest hoofed animal!

But what really tickled me was seeing how Zoobic made every effort to play with its name in posters and signages all over the area. The punning got funnier and funnier as we went along…

In a few weeks, almost everyone I know will be celebrating Valentine’s Day. You know, that day where chocolate manufacturers, contraceptive vendors, and seedy motels will make a killing. Also, it’s the day where everyone gets to shack up with someone and be generally happy. I, on the other hand, will probably be shacked up in my  room, watching the shit out of my DVDs of CSI: Las Vegas Seasons 1-7 while I cry my eyes out in loneliness. And lust.

So, yeah, I don’t have a date for the big V-day yet. It’s not like I haven’t tried. I’ve been all over my phonebook, calling girls left and right, asking if they could spare an hour or two for a valentine’s date. Even the ugly ones. But sadly, I’ve been getting rejected left and right. Read the rest of this entry »

“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” is one of the most famous phrases in the United States Declaration of Independence. These three aspects are listed among the “unalienable rights” of man. There is no quarrel about wanting to be happy. It is how one goes about trying to be happy where the trouble begins. In this Sunday’s gospel, Jesus describes 8 (actually there are 9) happy people. Its the first day of the LOVE month and I’ll bet many of you are already thinking of how you will spend Valentine’s day. Men are keeping a tight watch on their budgets and the women are fantasizing about the romantic day they want to experience.

On Shopping for a Bathing Suit

Friday

Jan jan jajan jan jajan jajan jajan (Darth Vader’s music in Star Wars)… that’s the music ringing in my head although the pictures going through my mind come from a different movie… it’s either Free Willy or Orca the Killer Whale. The walls close in on me and the asphyxiating air smothers me. Oh, horrors! I tremble from head to foot. Am I in a haunted house? Is it the FSO oral exams all over again? Noooooo…. it’s much worse… I am inside the department store fitting room trying out bathing suits.

What is the most challenging task for the woman of today? Is it caring for her precious children? Is it balancing the scale between career and family? Is it having a successful marriage? Is it proving her worth in a world ruled by men? The answer is… shopping for a bathing suit!

GF: Sira! Nagpalit lang ako ng desisyon. Tumatae na ako.
