Misconceptions on Blogging Every time I bring up the topic of “blogging” with non-bloggers, I always seem to get interesting reactions out of them.

“Blog? Sabi ng ate ko pangit daw yun e.”

“E parang diary lang yun, diba?”

“Mas maganda pa Friendster dun.”

“Puro sulat lang naman ang ginagawa doon, e.”

Based on these reactions we could easily see that people have a lot of misconceptions about blogging which prevent them from seeing its greatness and are keeping them from trying it out.

But why do they have these misconceptions? That is because they are misinformed about the true concepts of blogging. Again, our lack of promotion is the cause of this.

I have compiled a list of the common misconceptions on blogging and have included some explanations and clarifications in hopes of clearing their false impressions.

I’ll assume you are between 27 and 33 years old, my specific target reader for this post. Then, I’ll correctly assume your parents are baby-boomers and were in professions such as architects, teachers, doctors, lawyers, corporate managers and such. In your earliest years, they told you that you can be anything you want and the most important thing is to be happy. In your grade school and high school years, they told you to study hard, get good grades and it will all pay off.

In college, they encouraged you to get into computer, engineering or management courses. They might have nervously smiled if you took history, writing or art related courses. Now that you are working, they ask if you have your insurances covered and they tell you they have saved up for your MBA. Sometimes they ask you to check their email. Particularly your father, once in awhile, gives you “jewels of wisdom” when you ask for career advice but it seems he is on autopilot and resumes to read the newspaper.

You have to understand that your parents’ world and the times they grew up in are very, very, very different from ours. They grew up with the themes of security, simplicity, hope and progress. On the other hand, we started our careers in the world of Internet, Google, Friendster, outsourcing and call centers, DVDs, MP3s, and cellphones all of which were non-existent in their time.

I was blown away when Anthony Robbins in one of his lectures, succinctly characterizes our time – the 21st century – as the age of “fast and discontinuous change.” Of course there has always been change, but not as fast now and it was not discontinuous for change then did not eliminate and create jobs, processes, industries, and products overnight. Discontinuous means you cannot logically predict what will come next.

What’s more is that this fast and discontinuous change is not temporary or an adjustment that will soon plateau; it will be the norm.

Click here and continue reading…

Minding the mind..
By Bai Maleiha Bajunaid Candao

Man is inexplicably unique by all
dimensions. Pinch his skin and
you will hear him say “ouch..”
Challenge his ego and you hear
nothing but inside he is burning
like hell.Agitated.Like an
imprisoned bird wanting to be
released from cage.

He is complicated..he shouts
from his spiritual abyss but his
lips are tightly sealed.What
separates man from his ego was
not clearly explained by Freud’s
pyschoanalysis…what is in
fact very confusing for me
is not knowing which part of
man that truly dominates his
thoughts and actions.

Is it his libido or unresting
sexual urge that haunts him
day and night? But this is not fair
for all.Man is not a
capsule of sexual
angst..he is more than
that.In fact he can
professionalized his moves
which make others
unsuspecting of his motives.

Wait a minute…are you getting
my point here,ladies, gentlemen
and members of the third sex?
Indeed,it is confusing if we wont
mind the unminded, for it is still
common sense to mind the mind..
the cerebral power of our central
nervous system..the nucleus of
man’s rationality and his excuse
for his missed illogicality.

Shame,no shame.Shame no one.

I want to ask therefore,if man
behaves sexually promiscious,
is this part of the brain
relegated to his middle..
which part does the
thinking or is he thinking
at all?

This applies to ladies as well.

Do we have the right to say that
when a man is disloyal to his wife,is
it therefore indicative that he loses
his cognitive ability to size up that
his moral values are being thrown out
of the window?

But do we have the right to
conclude that an act is right or
wrong when in reality we are also
as guilty as the condemned?

Is your paper unblemished?
NO erasure?No mistakes?
Do you keep on writing
then erase it again when your
conscience dictates it to be so?

Ahhh…who among us is
pretending to be perfect? That
he or she can absolutely say
that he/she has not committed
even an iota of sin?

Does it escape the mind of a masked
man that he when curses,he is as
guilty as the one he blasphemes?

Who has the right to stand in the
middle of the crowd and raise
his hand to say”Hail Hitler!!”
That was the irony of life then,
when the Germans were
overwhelmed by so much
fictionality of perfection..
Hitler then idolized his
concept of perfection when he
was stepping on the maggots of
his rotten soul.

How dare you to say that you are
perfect and those you say imperfect
are less dignified..who are you
anyway?

For only when one minds you thus
you become an entity relevant
to life.Otherwise you are just a dot
like me..

But unlike you I am not perfect..
thus it makes me more truthful
than yours which is masked with
despicable artifice.

Mind the mind but please just mind
yours.(All rights reserved.)

Sweet Sewage

Thursday

Did you know that sewage tastes sweet? Have you tried tasting it? Are you more likely to taste it as is, or should it be disguised, say, as ‘miracle water’?

Filipinos in the early 20th century tasted sewage. Read more to see what price they paid.

So I was writing about the recent Trinoma Blogger Food Tour which I recently participated in, right? I was in the middle of a five-paragraph, 1,500 word article which I slaved over for two days already.

I actually wrote an awesome entry about the awesome people I hung out with (Lauren, Fritz, Noemi, Juned, Jayvee, Jonas, Eric, AJ) and the awesome people I met (Kring, Coy, Dementia, and that girl blogger in glasses who I never actually got to know the name of but I made a fool out of myself in front of her all the same), the awesome band Sound (which, incidentally, is my favorite band – read my review of their 2nd album) and of course the food! Food, glorious food!

I mean, just look at this nifty piece of kit:

SCROTUM BREAD!

I mean, they even come in pairs! Exactly just like scrotum! Talk about awesome, right? Read the rest of this entry »

Why the hell did I even participate in the Yehey.com-sponsored Trinoma Blogger Food Tour? I’m always at that mall anyway (bitch, plz. I’m from Fairview.) and I’ve been trying to lose like half my weight. Ok, I admit. It was all Coy’s fault. Blame him. He dragged and blackmailed me. And well, yeah. I kinda wanted to meet other bloggers, too. ^_^;;;

- I DUNNO WHAT ELSE TO SAY ABOUT THE EVENT EXCEPT THAT WE WERE MADE TO TRY FOOD FROM PARTICIPATING ESTABLISHMENTS WITH THE HOPE THAT BLOGGERS WOULD WRITE POSITIVELY ABOUT THEM TOO BAD FOR CABALEN SO YEAH EVERYTHING YOU’D READ FROM THIS POINT ONWARDS ARE RANDOM AND WOULD PROBABLY MAKE NO SENSE YOU’VE BEEN WARNED YUP I DO LOOK WEIRD IN PERSON -

I just finished watching the trailer of “The Other Boleyn Girl” in YouTube and I could not wait to watch that movie. With spectacular casts, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson (two of my favorite female actresses) and Eric Bana, a historical plot, and great cinematography, this movie will surely make it to the top box-office hits.

The mystery girl in green is a girl named Donna. If i were to believe a reader who just sent me these photos of Donna, famous for the so-called Manny Pacquiao scandal. In the previously published photos of the Manny Pacquiao scandal, the girl’s face was edited out. But now, her face is for the world to see (and judge??!).

Right now, the girl is just known by the name of “Donna”. How apt a name, lol…na do na kaya si Donna? lol..

Seven Weird Things About Me

Wednesday
Jan 16,2008

1. I have gerontophobia.

I don’t hate or fear old people, but I strongly fear getting old. Every birthday since my 20th has been a struggle. And I’ve mentioned before that I want to die when I’m 45.

2. I have ridiculously small feet.

Don’t ask what size.

Needless to say, buying shoes is not one of the things I enjoy. Folks from my mother’s side have small feet but not as insanely small as mine. They wash their hands off me and blame a great grandma from my father’s side. She died even before I wash born but my relatives insist that she had feet like a baby’s. She was Chinese, so it was probably due to footbinding.

Remember Pandora? A friend of mind recommended it to me and I got to listen to some songs before it was restricted to US residents only. Pandora radio is the personalized internet radio service that helps you find new music based on your old and current favorites under the Music Genome Project.

Well, here’s the good alternative to all non-US residents. The box is open! You can now listen to your favorite songs through GlobalPandora.

Check my post about it.

Are you ready to get sick?

Tuesday
Jan 15,2008

Most mothers are built capable of nurturing and taking care of their families… not all, but most. It is such a stereotype but sometimes I think that genes also have something to do with it.

When a child is sick or sad, mothers are often the first to reach out, hug, comfort. I myself, do not think twice about staying home (instead of going to work) to care for a sick or troubled child.

Below is another update from animal welfare advocate and author Alya B. Honasan about a black Labrador named Rex whom she’s fostered back into a happy, healthy dog the way dogs are supposed to be. Looking at his previous pictures, you’d see how much love Alya has put into his recovery. Rex deserves nothing less after what he’s been through. Thanks, Alya! Cheers to happy endings!

Dampa sa libis is basically a Resto where in it has a Wet Market (“palengke”) where you can buy fresh seafoods or even meat (there’s a lot of stalls to choose from) and let you decide how it will be cooked. It is a clean, great and comfortable place to enjoy your food.

Here, you can choose where your food will be cooked for we have a total of 5 (five) different cooking stations to choose from. You can bring your family, friends, loved ones, peers(barkada) and officemates to enjoy the place and the ambience without worrying about fitting in.

It is also the best place to celebrate any occassion such as birthdays, anniversaries, parties, etc. We have a separate room and functions for closed door meeting or events if you want it to be private. You can also try A different kind of seafood trip?

So, what are you waiting for??… ;)
