Spending time with Jasmine

Sunday
Jan 27,2008

Dogs, adoption, JasmineJasmine’s coat of white faintly glistened in the afternoon sun as I entered PARC‘s Dog Run 1 (an enclosure for socializing the shelter dogs). She and her buddies greeted me with the customary sniffing and licking while I bolted the gates shut. Then I returned their warm welcome with a generous amount of patting and ‘hellos’. Jasmine stayed at my side long after the others have gone off to doing their doggy ways. Good Jasmine. It was a good start.

Roast Porkchops with Potatoes and Leeks 1

And so the challenge of coming up with a gourmet meal continues. I came up with something original. One thing I hate is that I don’t have them big white plates for better presentation. Anyway, after several failures and misses in my cooking, I managed to come up with something pleasing to both the eyes and the mouth.

If you’re trying this recipe, please let me know how it turns out in your end. Also, let me know what else can be added to improve the taste.

Brothers and Sisters tv series

Do you watch Brothers and Sisters? I do. Every week I try to catch it on Star World. When the teaser was first aired, I thought the series was too heavy and mushy for my taste. However, for lack of a better show on a tuesday night, I allowed myself to watch it.

Brothers and Sisters is a tv drama about an ordinary American family dealing with everyday family conflicts. These conflicts include a gay brother, a controversial sister, sibling rivalry, dealing with mom, a mistress, sterility, and competition between husbands and wives.

I thought of giving back to my readers, visitors and lurkers part of the prize money I won from winning Best Website (Blogs Category) in the last 10th Philippine Web Awards. A Delayed Movie Review

Saturday
Jan 26,2008

Blogspot humorist Anton Deleon tries to sneak in a really delayed movie review of I am Legend and The Invasion.

Well, he really didn’t like it, coming short of saying that there was nothing legendary about I am Legend.

But Boy, was Nicle Kidman good.

Many of us have probably encountered fusion cuisine even if most of the time we are unaware of it. It is especially true these days when there is pressure to come up with something new or reinvent the classics with the hopes of enticing the taste buds of discriminating diners.

Fusion cuisine refers to dishes made with ingredients, tools and techniques that come from different places or countries in the world. An example would be something like BBQ chicken topped pizza or deep fried california maki.

Horrorscope for 2008

I have thought of writing this a few weeks ago but it’s only now that I have got enough time to write it. It would have been better and timely if I have posted this during the start of the year or on the first week of this month. But never mind that, what’s important is that I’m writing it now.

An Introduction
I haven’t tried publishing a funny entry in my blog. In fact, I have only contributed twice in my entire writing career to a humor filled article. And that was way back in my high school days. In our official school paper, The Chimes, we had (but I don’t know if they still have it up to this day) this article under the features section with the title “Horrorscope.” It’s some sort of a horoscope which we just created from scratch and they were really funny because we only wrote about impossible misadventures that people can experience, which of course were the fruit of our creative juices.

A Night with My Chemical Romance

Saturday
Jan 26,2008

The quintet band, My Chemical Romance, has just wrapped up their concert at the Fort Bonifacio Open Fields in Taguig City last night, January 25. It was a blast and I never thought it would turn out to be a really great show. After school, I hurriedly went home to take a rest for few minutes and to get my camera.

Happy time with Happy Slip, part 1

Saturday
Jan 26,2008

Boss: “O, who wants to go to this DOT presscon, guest daw si Happy Slip of YouTube.”

Me: “HAPPY SLIP? THE HAPPY SLIP? AKO!”

And that’s how I found myself at the St. Francis Square Showroom beside Shangri-La Plaza last Thursday, bleary-eyed at having to wake up early for the 11 a.m. call time but giddy over the prospect of meeting Christine Gambito aka Happy Slip, the Fil-American vlogging phenomenon whose YouTube videos have generated some 4,400,000 views.

I brought along the one guy who I thought has done more than anyone to popularize local vlogging: Coy Caballes aka Cokskiblue. Our surprise to our fellow Happy Slip fans: Coy, without telling them he was set to meet Happy Slip, asked his readers the ONE question they’d ask Happy Slip should they get the chance. Then he chose the five best questions and included them in our interview.

So which questions did Coy choose, and how did Happy Slip answer them? Abangan in part 2!

But first, for part 1, our interview with Josh Verdes, Christine’s cousin and the musical scorer for Happy Slip videos–a sort of warm-up chat for the primetime show: our own interview with Happy Slip!

See video and read complete post here and here.

Ever since I started using wordpress, I’ve been pretty amazed on the number of plugins it currently has and the numerous features that you can gain if you use those. I would like to share with you my personal list of Essential WordPress Plugins that you should have.

I’ve broken them down into five (5) different parts:

  1. For your blog’s visitors – This is to enhance the experience of the visitors in your blog. Make them happy and surely they will return to your blog.
  2. For your blog’s protection – With numerous people getting hacked lately, you need all the protection that you need.
  3. For search engines – In order to gain organic traffic (search engine traffic), you should make your blog look good in search engines.
  4. For your blog’s functionality – Although wordpress already offers a lot of features, there are still some that we crave to have.
  5. For your blog’s feeds -Not all your visitors read your blog by visiting the website itself. Sometimes, they just subscribe through your feeds and read them there. So you should also make your feeds presentable. Why don’t you subscribe to my feeds too?

Just a quick note: Most of the plugins mentioned in this post are just upload and activate. I will be telling you if you need to do something to make it work. I have personally tested and used each of these plugins. They work with the latest version of wordpress.
