-wikipilipinas-filipinaIn line with the principle of honoring the diverse, beautiful, and powerful image of a Filipina, WikiPilipinas will launch a special portal, Encyclopedia of Philippine Women, inside the site which will compile and detail the achievements and triumphs of Filipinas everywhere. Its sister site, Filipiniana.net, will also have a Philippine Women Microsite containing documents discussing Filipino women, as well as selected texts from the oeuvres of Filipina writers. Through a combined effort for advocacy, WikiPilipinas partnered with Filipina Images to help promote a more empowering image of the Filipina. By having an online platform to showcase Filipina intelligence and talent, the goal of developing more empowered Filipinas becomes achievable.

Many participants, through this project, will discover that they can help bridge the digital divide and promote gender mainstreaming and gender equality.

To promulgate the advocacy, WikiPilipinas and Filipina Images websites will launch “Filipina Stories,” a writing contest with the mission of uplifting the image of the Filipina.

Check the prizes and mechanics of this contest.

New Theme – Another Theme Reboot

Thursday
Jan 31,2008

If you haven’t notice yet, my blog is now sporting a new look since last week. After a couple of days of customizing the CSS and PHP scripts, I finally decided to launch the new theme. My blog is now back with the blue and white look which is quite similar to the theme I use last year. Unfortunately, I had to change that theme last 3 (or 4?) months ago because of some incompatibility issues after upgrading to Wordpress 2.3.

I know very few people who do not like french fries. Even those I know hate potatoes, say that french fries are the exception for them. French fries is one of those that actually differentiates McDonalds from Jollibee. I love McDonalds fries!

Potato Corner was the first french fry stall that offered flavored french fried potatoes. I am now imagining sour cream and onion flavored fries. Yummy! I never let myself pass by Potato corner without buying large fries.

I have been using PayPal for several years now since I have a credit card and savings account based in the US. But with my current setup, it’s very difficult to withdraw money since I have to ask my relatives to send it to me via money remittance. That’s why I was so happy to learn that I can now add Philippine banks with my Philippine PayPal account.

Ever heard of watching free TV on your mobile phones? No, not that SMART myTV thing. I’m talking about the very famous China-made mobile phones that you could see everywhere. Unlike SMART myTV which uses Digital Video Broadcast – Handheld (DVBH) technology, these China-made mobile phones are capable of receiving analog TV signals.

Everyone hates email spam. There was a time when I have to delete atleast 200 spam emails on my hotmail account everyday just to read my real mails. It’s my fault. I posted my email address on my old website, free to be crawled by spambots.

Where Art My Blog?

Wednesday
Jan 30,2008

When you lose ten pounds, where does all the weight go? To Connecticut? No, really. Where does it go? It couldn’t possibly have disappeared into thin air? The weight, after all, is made up of masses of fat and lechon and pizzas and milkshake all blended and processed into tiny cells and molecules and atoms. When you burn it, let’s say by jogging, does it evaporate into the polluted atmosphere of the city? (And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I am not a Biology major).

In the same way, when my blog disappeared during the entire weekend and a little before and after that, where did it go? Is there a black hole in cyberspace where blogs which domains are expired and bloghostings are not renewed go to hibernate until they are paid for again?

My play-going schedule this weekend:

1. Saturday 8 p.m. — PETA’s Skin-Deep, at the PETA Theater Center, Quezon City.

2. Sunday, 3 p.m. — Repertory Philippines’ Hamlet, at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.

Since I’m allowed to bring a companion to each of these shows, I’d like to offer the opportunity once again to bloggers who are interested to experience local theater and watch our theater artists in action. (Friends need not apply–you can very well pay for your own tickets, buddies!)

Richard Poon finally takes his turn to stardom via his debut album, “I’ll Take Care of You,” produced by Cornerstone Talent Management Center and distributed by MCA Music, Inc.. This romantic crooner has long waited for this project to happen because it‘s a challenge to him to make immortal hits of Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart and Tony Bennet sound as if they were new again.

But unlike others who do covers, Richard didn’t stick to just a particular musical era. He made it a point to reach out to the younger set of listeners by including contemporary hits arranged to his “Fresh Old –School Music.” His ability as songwriter also shines in the CD’s well balanced repertoire. It’s a complete entertainment package that the matured crowd and the young fans would love to play over and over. “I’ll Take Care of You” CD was recently launched in ASAP over ABS-CBN.
