A hug and a kiss from Neil Gaiman

Tuesday
Nov 27,2007

Yes, literally.

Well the title of this post was supposed to be “30 minutes with Neil Gaiman” but, 1) “A hug and a kiss from Neil Gaiman” is more compelling, and; 2) it was only 20 minutes with Neil Gaiman. And I thought having him sign a book and hug me the last time he was here was the closest I was ever going to get with that awesome guy.

How to change a flat tire

Monday
Nov 26,2007

I have been driving for almost 10 years now. In all those years, I have only been in a bumper to bumper accident only once. And that was the fault of the driver behind me who was tailgating.

It seems I am fortunate to only encounter different car issues once each.

I had a bumper to bumper only once.

I encountered radiator issues and car overheating once.

I encountered a dead car battery only once.

Did I say that I saw my face on a book?

Yet another off topic for the week.

Yes, I did saw my face on a book “Exploring Bohol” when me and my girlfriend visited Ayala – National Bookstore to check on new stuffs just hours ago. She’s been telling me about it years ago but it’s just that I don’t believe it and I never cared about it. Just a while ago she took the book and showed me how pitiful I look way back in college. Hahaha.. Wow! Can’t imagine myself stuck in that book and when I tried checking on other related books still my pitiful face was there!

Blue Beanie Day 2007

Monday
Nov 26,2007

Today is a day for Web standards. As irrelevant as it may seem, blue beanies are related to Web standards advocacy. This so-called connection could be attributed to Jeffrey Zeldman on his book Designing with Web Standards whose cover features the author wearing a blue beanie. The idea of having a blue beanie day came from Douglas Voz, founder of Facebook’s Designing With Web Standards Group.

You’ve realized one reason or another that the corporation you’ve given life to needs to say goodbye to the world.  It will not be that easy as you have to go through the notorious Philippine government red tape.  But, it will be clean and will (it is hoped) not give you sleepless nights.

Here’s how the corporation can say goodbye properly.  First, you decide to shorten its corporate life which is set at 50 years by default in the articles of incorporation.  You set up a meeting (together or separately) with at least a majority of the directors/trustees and stockholders/members where the majority of both directors/trustees and stockholders/members agree to amend the articles of incorporation to shorten the corporate term.  Note that your by-laws may require a higher number of votes for such an amendment. You must follow what your by-laws provide so you will need to double-check that (whether it’s 2/3 vote, 3/4, etc.).

Pinoy Big Brother? Just another effective marketing strategy..

This article maybe late but still worth the read knowing that I been wanting to write this short article for months now but I could not find time to reflect on this topic since I’ve got backlogs to attend to.

PBB has been a sensation to all of us since its first edition. Up until now you can still notice various articles related to PBB circulated by known bloggers in the country to date from critiques, rhetoric’s and personal opinions as to how PBB affects our lives.

So what made PBB so successful when they first launched the program? Let me highlight to theories as to how we are glued to this hot program. Aside from being a “kapamilya” you might consider this opinion.

Is your communication skill killing you?

This has been the most common dilemma that our job seekers wanted to cope with and has been the source of frustrations to some. Have you taken a long, hard look at how well you communicate with others lately?  I bet the answer is “no”.  Well, I suggest that periodically you review how good you are at being clear in your conversations with others, your writing of letters, reports, etc., and your effectiveness in presenting information or delegating work because this is the key on how confident you can be in closing deals especially if you’re a job seeker. To date, BPO is the hottest industry and most of our fresh graduates have wanted to join the bandwagon but without the English fluency, American accent and fluency on various languages you’re not welcome not unless if your a tech geek.

Anyway, are you worried about how your communication skill is killing you? Don’t worry now there’s the two of us or worst a million of us and I mean it since I’m no good as well when it comes to communication.

Confident of being a High Performer?

Are you confident that you can land a high paying job because you’re a high performer especially if you’re in sales and marketing? Watch out because recruiters together with headhunters are now so careful on assessing potential high post. Aside from a famous quote that “past performances does not guarantee future accomplishment” it has also been noted that high performers achieve such level due to the resources provided by his present or previous employer. Worst, some of these performers did not notice that.

    ASEAN being left behind?

    Monday
    Nov 26,2007

The 13th ASEAN Summit in Singapore is now over. What now? Each 10-member Countries of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) now have one full year to ratify the 1st ASEAN Constitution signed on the 20th of November 2007 (last week) on their respective countries. Once all 10 members ratify it, the ASEAN Constitution will take full effect on the 14th ASEAN Summit, and from there on we will truely see where we – the ASEAN Citizens – are really going to be in the future, and in this New World Order of growing regional communities and unions.

I said “regional communities and unions” when in reality there are so few communities today than 5+ years ago. Are you aware that the African Economic Community (AEC) is now known as the African Union (AU), going by the tagline An Efficient and Effective African Union for a New Africa, forming 53 African States and founded on 2001?

    The Goth That Never Was

    Monday
    Nov 26,2007

It was recently announced that the theme for our office Christmas party is Goth Punk Rock.

    Hehe.

I kinda like this goth fashion, though. Too bad people are not very fashionable here in the Philippines. Everyone likes wearing practical and comfortable clothes, mostly shirts and jeans. If I were in Japan or Europe, I would have probably tried to dress a little edgy.
