Currency of choice
Peso appreciation

Just in case that you’re living under a rock or something, the U.S. economy is in a slump. And it seems the world is fascinated by the Euro and Renminbi (China) by and its strength. The Renminbi is pegged to the dollar and its currently undervalued. It seems to be that the dollar is no longer the preference as the world’s reserve currency. It’s the Euro, Clifford Bennett of Sonray Capital (Bloomberg Video).

Sometimes a user experiences a dilemma in which the situation is between keeping the current system the user has or upgrading to a version that is full of new features (and new bugs as well). A few days ago, I was in that state and was caught in deciding between keeping my current Feisty setup, upgrading my Ubuntu to Gutsy via Synaptic, or going for a fresh install.

Oh No, Not the Cemetery Again!

Now, I am dragged to visit graves. We have to commute from our house here in the northern part of the metro, all the way to the south. I get to spend the whole day listening to mindless chatter (but mostly spacing out), being in a huge crowd (which I hate), and being forced to go to gross comfort rooms with almost non-existent water supply (I’m looking at you, Manila Memorial).

All those crap just to see a rectangular piece of soil.

Young bloggers @ Theater Talk

We advertised for 20 bloggers, but we ended up with 35 people in the room last Saturday. Most of them young, students even–which made it all the more gratifying. As Mcvie would write, “Hey, if I’m going to entrust the future of theater appreciation to anyone, might as well be to them.” Eh-men!

Pictures, links and complete post here.

For some strange reason, my boyfriend and I judged the Halloween costume contest in our village just this weekend. Come to think of it, it’s not that strange. It makes perfect sense since we’re the most objective people they could ever get to judge the competition—my boyfriend lives almost half the entire stretch of Ortigas away and I, well, I ignore practically every living thing that resides here, save for the cross-bred Labrador-Dalmatian (imagine a Lab with black spots) and the Persian-turned-stray cat I often encounter on my way to work. Of course there’s the occasional (much to my chagrin) small talk initiated by some pretty nice parents that (much to my delight) offer to pay my trike fare just because they like my mom.

Anyway, at first, we were just standing there with our index cards not knowing what the hell we’re supposed to do. My mom had to tell, nay force us to walk around and check out the costumes. You know all those hackneyed phrases about judges’ decisions “not being easy”? Well, it’s true. In the end, though, I firmly believe that we picked the most deserving kids.

Before they even made the announcement, we made a quick run away from our village. You’ll never know when disgruntled parents come running after us with baseball bats, umbrellas, pitchforks, or something. Click here to read the entire post.

Trick or Treat?

Monday
Oct 29,2007

Going trick or treat is not common in our country. In fact, kids dressing up as ghosts, witches, or monsters and knocking on their neighbors doors were unheard of outside gated subdivisions. Year after year though, more and more communities have embraced the custom. More villages, schools, and offices are now celebrating halloween with trick or treat.

And although I find it a challenge trying to explain to my 4-year old that there are really no monsters, I dressed him up as a bat, his kid brother as tigger (of Winnie the Pooh) and brought them over to collect tons and tons of candy from my generous colleagues.

I signed up for PayPal a few weeks ago and was excited to try whether the transferring of PayPal balances to a VISA Credit Card would work. So with a measly $28 in my account, I tried transferring $20 to my HSBC VISA Credit Card. And within 3 days, the money was posted to my credit card statement. Wo0T! :)

I’ve posted a 2-part how-to on my blog. So those of you who have PayPal accounts and HSBC VISA Credit Cards (or are thinking of applying for one) are welcome to check it out.

Spammers must die! I got another email spam. Pretending that they are the PayPal service. This is a warning to all newbies in the internet world. Please don’t believe in some emails you got. Please always check the address if its really the address of the website you are logging in. This spamming is called “phishing”. You are logging-in in a fake website and this hackers can get your passwords. They are dreaming! They can’t make me believe. Please be aware. you might be the next victim. And if you believe in this kind of email your account will be hacked. And maybe PayPal won’t give you back your earnings.

Apple no longer accept cash in purchasing their hybrid cellphone-iPod, iPhone. They also limits sales of it into two per person unlike five per person before. This is to avoid people reselling them and modifying the phone. We all know especially here in the Philippines that there are a lot of a genius kind that they modify the parts of a phone then maybe resell it in a lower price.

Gay Best Friend Only Straight: Progress Report

A few months ago, I talked at length on the pitfalls of being the Gay Best Friend Only Straight. And if you don’t remember (or too lazy to click that link), I concluded that girls treat me as such because I’m too nice. I mean, not nice enough to trust me with your sister, but still nice nonetheless. Well, months have passed since I made that conclusion, and here’s a progress report:

Progress? What progress?

Yeah, girls still treat me as a GBFOS. Other guys envy me because I can seem to get into the girls’ trust zone immediately and not set off any “rapist alerts”. But I tell you, it’s not actually pretty in there. Mainly because women treat me like a eunuch and you tend to learn things that you can be happier off not hearing. Like that time this one girl was having her period and she actually pulled a blood clot the size and shape of a squid out of her privates. Cringing now? Now you know how I feel. Read more
