Believe it can be done

Sunday
Sep 2,2007

More than 2 months ago, a bunch of young professionals and entrepreneurs, who barely know each other, worked on a goal that we thought to be close to impossible. And that is to host a national convention for Human Resource practioners where a well established organization has been doing regularly. And exactly, who do we think we are? An HR e-group whose members only know each other via email and blog, with no money.

All we have is the common desire to mentor younger generation/entry level HR practitioners,  and that of GK Lim who volunteered to speak for HR Philippines since he is will be in town. GK Lim is a well known Trainer and HR Guru in Asia Pacific, he is from Malaysia.

And on August 29, 2007, HR Philippines e-group made history by hosting 350 hr practitioners in attendance, the largest ”eye ball” event an e-group can have.

GIs no fair game in Mindanao

Sunday
Sep 2,2007

It has been over four years since American special forces have been in many hot spots in Mindanao. And no casualty!?

I am intrigued by the writings of the chairwrecker here and here about the US involvement in Mindanao.

In other troubled areas, American troops are fair game. But not in Mindanao!

I remember Michael Meiring. He is the American who was spirited out of a Davao hospital after accidentally blowing himself up at his hotel room.

The entire country, and perhaps the international community was struck by the news last July 10, 2007 that when 10 Marines were beheaded by alleged bandits coming the ranks of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels and Abu Sayyaf. It was enough to cause distress, foremost to the communities near the place of incident, but also to the peacemakers who toiled hard to bring back peace and development in Mindanao. Since the all-out war policy of Estrada Administration, a significant leap has been made to restore peace in the Mindanao, particularly the ARMM. Communities began to become vibrant again, and holding to the last thread of hope that peace would eventually thrive in Mindanao. But peace seems elusive.

My favorite Caesar salad has been replaced

I used to be very enthusiastic about TGI Friday’s Caesar Salad. In fact, I even named it as the best I have had in my list of good eats. I would never eat at Friday’s without ordering their salad. Most of the time, I take the added chicken with it.

A couple of months ago, my co-worker introduced me to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s Caesar salad. My eyes lit up when I first saw it. The salad was encased in a big clear plastic container. For its price, I should have half expected the size to be bigger than most coffee house salads, but it surprised me just the same.

I Fail at Flirting

Dear 2 readers,

My heart’s going dokidoki once again.

I am crushing on someone. Yihheeeee! Shuddup. I’m just 10 years old, mmmkay?

I know it shouldn’t be a big deal and even talking about it is kinda embarrassing as it only shows how much of a lame-o I am. As you probably know by now, I’ve never really been with anyone before. I’ve never had boys running after me and GUYS + KRING + SWEET/TOUCHY MOMENTS= DISASTARRRR!

You see, I don’t know how to flirt. I fail at it. If it was a subject in school, I would’ve gotten a consistent cinco. Whenever a guy makes his moves on me (which is very very very rare fyi), I start to panic, my palms begin to sweat and I feel a sudden lump in my throat. So the conversation would turn out like this:

GUY: So are you with someone right now?
ME: You mean like…
GUY: Yanno, a boyfriend.
ME: *internal siren wailing* (thinks: uh-oh) I, uh, never… had one. Uhm. Are you hungry?
GUY: Not really, no. *smiles* So what are you looking for in a guy?
ME: *palipitates* Uhm, I like… boys-next-door. And uhm, *shuffles feet* smart dudes.
GUY: Yah?
ME: *changes the topic* Can I show you my talent?
GUY: Sure!
ME: *makes gigantic spitbubbles*

At this point, guys usually excuse themselves to go to the C.R.

On parenting partnerships

Saturday
Sep 1,2007

I attended a 2 hour talk of Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan in an office event the other day. She talked of parenting partnerships.

She talked of how parenting partnership does not necessarily compose of husband and wife. It can be mother and grandmother, or mother and brother, sometimes even a yaya (a.k.a nanny) can also be included in such partnership. The key is to find people who will make the best partners when it comes to parenting.

Key things to remember when on this search is dependability, ability, and availability. For example, we may look at our own parents (our kid’s grandparents) as a parenting partner and they may be dependable and certainly able but most of the time the question would be are they available? At the end of the day, we really cannot force anyone to take care of our own children for us.

Sex is overrated

Saturday
Sep 1,2007

Is sex really overrated? On the other hand, is any kind of physical intimacy between two people overrated?

This guy is going out with this girl. Let’s just say that he is courting her (courting in the old fashioned way I must say). So they go out, have lunch or dinner together, they watch movies, or go to the mall together. However, they are not “exclusive”. Ok fine – the girl has not yet said yes to a commitment with him. That should be ok right.

So its now a couple of months into the courtship and it has evolved. The couple gets closer, they hold hands, sometimes they kiss or hug. Eventually, they become intimate. But the words “I love you” have never been released from the girl’s mouth. The commitment is still a no-no. The guy gets confused. How come with all the skin thats touching – he could still not call it a relationship? How come, he couldn’t call her his gf? Show her off to his friends?

Human resources

Improving human resources should not focus on teaching students how to speak good English or producing obedient workers. It’s about harnessing the capabilities of the young workforce to serve the actual needs of society.

Booking problems

Saturday
Sep 1,2007

This may sound as “news” to the uninitiated. But we have been telling this all along.

If the country wants to dramatically increase its tourist arrivals, it needs more flights and rooms to accommodate our visitors.

The so-called peace and order image problem in the country is the least concern abroad.

There are also violent incidents in France, Spain, US, Italy and UK, particularly “terrorist bombings” but how come they are the world’s top tourist draws?

Bashing the Liberals

Saturday
Sep 1,2007

The sinister plot to isolate the Liberals thickens.

At the Lower House where the LP has 21 members, its nominee for a seat at the Commission on Appointments as mandated by no less than a Constitutional provision on proportional representation was ignored by the House leadership.

Bashing the Liberals will have its rewards someday, most likely in 2010.

Attacking and isolating the Liberals would give it an underdog image, which Pinoy voters fancy.

Johnny-come-Sweeney

Who’d think that that devilishly difficult musical, Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd,” is up next for film adaptation? Cast and crew led by star Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton reportedly wrapped up work on the movie in UK last July, and a release date has been set for December 2007.

By the way, Johnny Depp singing the legendary near-operatic score, arguably Mr. Sondheim’s musical masterpiece? (Others would say it IS opera.) Not only he, but the rest of the cast, apparently, which also includes Helena Bonham-Carter (as Mrs. Lovett), Sacha Baron Cohen (aka Borat), Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and Laura Michelle Kelly. A previous Dreamworks statement maintained that “All the stars will do their own singing from Stephen Sondheim’s music and lyrics.” Aver nga!

Maybe smurf is right, that i’m a coward guy who tried to manipulate young girls that wrote a stupid letter instead of calling her family. Maybe i should have faced her family before I left, and maybe im just bullshitting my way out of a responsibilty that i should be facing.

Or maybe SMURF IS WRONG…coz…

I really love that girl, the fact that she’s 10 years younger than me that’s why i tried to call her everyday to talked w/ her parents but the thing is she’s just dropping my calls off…

I wanna meet her family when i was still stayin’ in Manila but she don’t want me too. You wanna know why? Coz she loved me so much and don’t want me to experience the hell that you went through. Since I love her so much, then her wish is always my command…

Does it mean that by trying to take care of my children, providing them their needs, giving them what they want and standing as both father/mother for them a form of bullshitting my way out of responsibilty???

And of course, SMURF IS DAMNED RIGHT that i should have written an apology letter for the mom of my other children, leaving us for another man. So, how am i suppose to start the letter??  Somethin’ like this one? “I’m very sorry ‘coz you’ve deserted us…” or this one? “I’m very sorry that you left our children to be with another man…”

And Lastly, Smurf is right again… I’m an asshole… who tried to love Ayah and planned to marry her… I’m an asshole who is really planning about my future w/ Ayah… I’m an asshole that wants Ayah to be always happy…

OR MAYBE SMURF JUST HAVEN’T HEARD THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY…
