Five Years in Cambodia

Friday
Jul 27,2007

We arrived in Cambodia on 27 July 2002… exactly five years from today. It also happened to be (as I keep repeating in various places in this blog) exactly two weeks since we got married. So 27 July is an important day for Honey and myself … it was the start of a new life, a new partner, a new phase in our careers, a new country, a new home.

Back in 2002, we didn’t have Internet at home yet as it was very expensive. The Internet in the office was still dial-up. And of course, at that time, I’ve never even had the fortune to hear of the word blog. As I mentioned in my about page, before I learned to blog, I would bombard my family and friends with long annoying e-mails to make sure they’re updated about every teeny-weeny detail of my life here. I sure freed their inboxes once I learned to blog. I also get to bombard more people (that’s YOU dear blog reader) with the sordid saga of my life. Anyway, since I only started blogging last year, you must be wondering how it was like in Cambodia before 2006. Okay, I’m sure you’re not wondering but I don’t care… I will still give you a glimpse of my life during those first few weeks or months in Cambodia in 2002. And in celebration of five years of living in our adopted country, I will publish my first email letter to my family in verbatim recounting our first few weeks in the land of Angkor.

Note: Names and titles have been changed to protect, well… me! Please also pardon me… for in my letters, I often use one of our national languages which is… Taglish… hehe! :)

Fig. 1: Maria Ozawa

Okay, not really.

In case you have been living under a rock for the past two years, Maria Ozawa is this wonderfully beautiful Japanese actress who starred in wholesome family-friendly films such as “Obscene Nymphomaniac 5″, “Let’s Do It At School”, and “Popular Fashion Model Maria Ozawa Nakadashi Raped for 20 Consecutive Times!”

Wholesome stuff indeed. In fact, when I get married and have a family, I’m gonna show that shit to the kids. Twice! Read the rest of this entry »

Face-Rocking Covers #5: The Hulk

Friday
Jul 27,2007

Every Friday, Baddie hits you with face-rocking comic book covers that could inspire you to say either “HOLY FUCK, THAT’S AWESOME!!!” or “WTF, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!” Whether it’s the awesomest of all awesome covers that ever awesomed, or the shittiest of all crappy covers that ever took a dump, if it’s face-rocking, it’s in here.

With World War Hulk kicking into high gear, it’s only fitting that we direct our attention to the Hulk and some of of his most face-rocking covers. When it comes to the Hulk, almost every cover is face-rocking. Literally.

The Hulk is giving a whole new meaning to the term “road rage”. Hulk: “Puny human cut off Hulk! This Hulk’s lane, dammit! HULK IN THE MIRROR CLOSER THAN HE APPEARS!!!” Poor Guy Freaking Out: “Huwhaaaaa?!”See more face-rocking Hulk covers >>

Naomi Tuazon: Filipina

Naomi Tuazon is a Filipina, a registered nurse, and a sexy mom to two kids, who are currently with their grandmother in the Philippines. I do not fully understand the roots of the notoriety she has gained in the Pinoy blogosphere, but from what I’ve seen, she’s the kind of person who divides people. You either love her or you hate her. More

The Chinese immigrants to the Philippines. See also Puzzling inward migration in the Philippines.

She hardly speaks any English or Tagalog but that does not stop the white-haired grandmother from China’s southern Fujian province from running her clothes store in Divisoria, Manila’s bargain shopping centre. She has three Filipina assistants and she haggles with customers via a calculator.

Like many of the shop- owners in the “168” mall – which, in Cantonese, sounds like “prosperity all the way” – the grandmother is a recent arrival from China and part of a new wave of immigrants who have arrived in the Philippines.

Jo Avila’s former students and VAs got together during Jo Avila’s Annual VA & Student party held last Saturday, July 21, 2007 at his studio and everyone had a great time!

The group had discussions in putting up an online venue where all of Jo Avila’s former students and VA’s can meet each other and share some ideas. With Jo Avila’s approval, Raymond Veran created a Yahoo! Group aptly name Magalingdinkami with a tagline Disciples of Jo Avila; Jo uses pinakamagalingako as his nick/username in forums and emails thus the name Magalingdinkami.

Harry Potter: Read It Or Watch It?

Thursday
Jul 26,2007

Last weekend, I finished reading Angels And Demons - the prequel of the bestseller The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Some murmured to me that I should had not read the book because it might deceive me away from religion, Christianity in particular. Yes, I believed so, but after reading the book, I felt naïve. Brown made me admire physics(the subject I cursed when I was in my senior year in high school) at once and informed me about the Vatican(there were also maps in the books) and, most importantly, my religion. Known I have now that Illuminati and antimatter are factual. Of course, I never forgot the six brands: Illuminati, Earth, Wind, Fire, Water and the Illuminati Diamond. Truly a genius book! I also include history and humanities stuffs(speaking of Galileo’s and Bernini’s works) in the book as cream to the coffee. I mean, without them stuffs, the book is not complete. Nevertheless, if you want sleepless nights(perhaps you have insomnia), try reading it. Until today, the words from the book still resonates in my head. A promise to God is the most important promise of all. Never break a promise to God.

I shall return the book to the library. And borrow The Da Vinci Code.

Back to my weekend. Because I already finished my 3-day reading activity, I turned to my DVDs and selected what to watch. Good news and bad news. There was a copy of a 12-movies-in-1 DVD collection with the previous Harry Potter installments included, however it was pirated. It will do. I thought, though I wasn’t anticipating of a quality viewing. I watched Philosopher’s Stone, Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire, leaving away Chamber of Secrets and The Order of the Phoenix. Why? Because the former’s audio was extracted of some sort(so it sounded mute) and the latter had a damn poor picture.
