USB flash drives and portable hard disk drives are commonplace today as PCs and digital media are conquering the market. But, while ease of use and portability of the UFD and HDD [as well as their digital content] increases, the spread of malware on them also increases. There are several ways to prevent this from happening, with or without the help of an AV product.

I found something interesting today: the blog of a chinese actress-turned-director is now the world’s most read blogger. Xu Jinglei’s blog reached within 100 million page views in two years, Beijing News said last week.

And Xu, who has a reputation for a high intellect and integrity, has done it without writing about sex or providing a catalogue of kiss-and-tell stories — but focusing on her work and day-to-day life.

Too bad, her blog is written in chinese. It would have been interesting to know what really made all those people really read her blog.

In the opinion pages, Isagani Cruz argues why Gloria’s SONA does not deserve all the buzz it generated over the past week. “That hogwash did not deserve the interest of this humble citizen of our bumbling Republic,” he mentioned in his column.

Water rationing is pathetic and reflects the short-sightedness of government. Exhorting the public to conserve water may be reasonable but unnecessary. Majority of the poor are using water prudently. Why not appeal to golf clubs to stop wasting precious water resources?

In January this year, we asked, Does Adsense prohibit the use of StumbleUpon?

At that time, there was no definite reply from SEO experts or Google Adsense themselves. But now, there are more reasons to believe that StumbleUpon can actually lead to a banned Adsense account.

    SONA Sideshow

    Saturday
    Jul 28,2007

Before anything else, I am greeting my friend Dada. He is turning twenty today. You can find him at Cogency of Absurdity.

For some time now the State of the Nation Address (SONA) has occupied a prominent place in the attention of the blogosphere netizens. So far, most of the posts I’ve read fall into two categories: either they think the SONA is a farce or it’s lacking in some way or another.

Manuel Quezon III, one of my favorite columnists, cites several of such commentaries in his blog.

Post-SONA hangover 2007 edition shares his insightful take on the recent SONA while the Pork Barrel Republic: SONA coverage provides a witty and off-beat transcript of last Monday’s proceedings inside the Batasan.

His coverage proved very useful as a chronological account of the events in the House. I had very important classes and was thus cut off from monitoring developments the whole day.

    The popcorn craze

I have always loved popcorn. When watching movies, I make sure I have a big bucket of salted popcorn with me before entering the cinema. That kind of popcorn has been so popular that microwavables were made. I came across them when I was in the US. I loved them so much, I had to bring home a big box of microwave popcorn to last me a year. Its a good thing that they have those now in our local supermarkets.

A while back, there was such a craze over Holy Kettle Corn. They were advertised as hand popped fresh everyday in addition to supposedly being no butter, no cholesterol, no preservatives, no artificial flavors, and non-fattening. Whew! Wouldn’t you just love to wolf down your favorite snack if it promised all that? Not really thinking about how non-fattening it is, these guys really taste great. It gives you an alternative to your usual salty or even cheesy popcorn. It is popcorn that is salty at first bite but offers a sweet caramel taste in your mouth. The kernels come glazed with caramel sugar. Imagine a combination of your caramel popcorn and your moviehouse popcorn. Lovely right?

new blog: “The day the Roman Catholic Church nearly died..”

A rebellion of the Filipino clergy against the Vatican almost triggerred the demise of the Roman Catholic Church in the Philipppines and the birth of an independent Filipino church. The story of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, otherwise known as the Philippine Independent Church, also known as the Aglipayan church, is intertwined with the war of independence against Spain and the subsequent war of resistance against the Americans. Gregorio Aglipay, a Catholic priest who was a very active participant in the Philippine revolution became the leading figure of the schismatic church.

Let backtrack a bit: How was I able to get admitted to the Asian Institute of Management (AIM)?

The admission process is a relatively brief process, but rigorous nonetheless. The AIM Website outlines the procedure on how to apply and the requirements as well. However, I found some old content at the AIM site that might get some users confused. But in spite of that, my experience in applying was a very smooth and hassle-free one.

I made sure that I had the following accomplished:

    • Application Form - This can be downloaded online. The application form is very long and has 14 essay questions! It is better to answer the essay questions briefly and direct to the point.
    • Official Transcripts - This is my undergraduate transcript from the University of the Philippines - Diliman.
    • Academic Recommendation Letter - I had a former professor of mine from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business accomplish this one.
    • Professional Recommendation Letter - I asked a former superior make a recommendation. She was an AIM alumna, so I hoping that would count for something. :P

I watched the DVD of Music and Lyrics a few days ago. I’m a hundred years late in watching this film but I don’t mind. I still loved it anyway.

I liked it for the fact that I was reminded of how men are total jerks. Recall the scenes where Drew talked about her relationship with famous novelist, Sloan. She struggled with the fact that she invested her love on a guy who would eventually write a book about it in not so good words - thus earning his income on her sad, pitiful story. Kiss and tell. And those who tell most often than not choose the way they tell - where they turn out to be the victims. Men? Victims. Come on.
