Tight Walk_erisac

Instead of reopening Avenida Rizal to vehicular traffic as a means to ease the overall congestion in the Santa Cruz and Quiapo areas of Manila, it might proved wiser for the newly-elect Mayor Lim to first start by getting rid of the vendors that make it impossible for pedestrians to comfortably walk along our sidewalks. Take for example those along both sides of Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo that are no wider than ten feet, but two-thirds of which the vendors occupy quite freely.

more excerpts from Apacible’s “To the American people an appeal

“From the outset our country took sides with the United States in the war with Spain, and we marched proudly with your sons as comrades in arms, as soldiers in the same cause, to victory. At all times during that war, and for months afterward, the civil, military and naval authorities of the United States caused us to hope for Independence. Papers and pamphlets advocating this ideal were published in Manila under the protection of the United States authorities: with their consent the revolutionary army had been conquering the Spanish positions and establishing in them provincial governments dependent on that of the Filipine Republic. America was then a great republic, releasing the Cubans and the Filipinos from the iron grasp of an imperial government and conducting them to emancipation and freedom; and our people hailed the Stars and Stripes as an emblem of freedom, as the token of liberty for the living and the badge of honor for the patriots dead. With renewed energy, with proud alacrity, with fearless determination they pressed on, side by side with your noble sons, to the end. What reward did we get? Did the expected freedom come to us? No! As a requital for our sacrifices and as a reward for our loyalty, subjugation is offered to us instead of freedom. We may have a colonial government of the United States, administered in a foreign language, instead of the colonial government of Spain, which, at least, was administered in a language already known to us and which we have made ours. We are to have a colonial government which will deny us the citizenship of its nation. In spite of their imperialistic tendencies, the Spanish government never went so far as to deny us citizenship!”

Idly this morning, I picked up the coffee, the creamer and the sugar from the cabinet. I was about to make coffee for myself. (What was that nagging pain of my hips?) The next thing I knew I was pouring very hot water on my left hand! It was too late to realize that I had removed the top cover. (The cover should only be turned a little to let the liquid flow!) I was shocked by the numbing pain but turned on the faucet which only produced like warm water to me. It did not help ease the pain and so I hurried to the fridge to get cold water leaving the faucet on. I poured the cold water on my trembling hand (The nagging pain of my hips was gone!) but it was no use. Still in shock, I put the cold water in the tabo and dipped my left hand there. There was relief.

But that was momentary. As soon as my left hand was out of the tabo, the excruciating pain was back. It took awhile before the pain subsided. I decided to still go to work. There are lots of things to do. (There was no burn ointment in the house, too!)

(more of my painful experience…)

One Fine Day At Work

So I went to work today, and I realized I had left my pen at home. Well, normally, I wouldn’t mind since I have a ginormous penis which I lug around all the time and I use it to write stuff and sign contracts and ransom letters whenever needed, but it was the full moon and I am never without my pen on the full moon. Mainly because without it I turn into a bloodthirsty werehamster and murder countless of innocent babies, which, I swear, taste great with Tabasco.

So I badger my officemate to lend me her pen. I was playfully punching her arm, telling her stuff like “I won’t stop singing 6cyclemind’s Upside Down if you don’t lend me your pen”. Maybe she was still pissed off at me for the time I tried to rape her in the company bathroom, but she was ignoring me as she did her report on the impact of the Pythagoras Theorem on toothpaste sales. And as you know, nobody ignores me. So I give her an extra-hard punch on her arm.

An ear-piercing shriek fills the air and the next thing I know, I see her flying in the air. At 10 mph. She escaped me, yet again. Curses! Giving up asking for her pen in disgust, I decided to rummage through her desk. Good thing I keep that ax handy for situations like these.

Interesting that the Vatican has published 10 Commandments for Drivers.
Adopting this in the Philippines should be interesting. Maybe more drivers wil now listen because the Vatican had said so. Also it will probably help MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando.

The Drivers’ Ten Commandments

1. You shall not kill.

2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.

3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.

4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.

5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.

Are you a liar? I am, at times.

What causes us to lie?

Laziness?
Cowardice?
Fear?
Shame?
Malice?

Or do we like to tell ourselves that it’s the nicer reason of sparing someone’s feelings?

Value Adding Blogs = Empowered Readers

After I conclude my “How to lose your job” series (hopefully this week), I will embark on another journey and this time to feature blogs around the world that more or less share my interest– that is to add and/or create value to readers– corporate citizens and entrepreneurs alike in particular. In business and economic term, one may easily understand what value adding means, but heck, how does value adding apply to blogs?

We often hear people say bad things about airline food. If you ask me, they are just like any other food – some are so so and some are good. What’s unique about airline food is how they compress everything to fit in the the food tray in front of you. Let me give you a peek of what airline food looks like.

No More Braces

Tuesday
Jun 19,2007

After 3 years and 5 months of wearing orthodontic braces, I finally had them removed. The relief I’m feeling right now is heavenly. It’s like I’ve just shit a ton after holding it for 3 hours or something. But even though I’m happy that I no longer have to put up with metal thingamajigs, I somehow miss wearing them braces.

Three and a half years ago, while I was visiting my dentist, I asked her about braces. How much will it cost? Do I need it? How much pain will I be in if I decide to go through with it? She told me the cost, she said I needed it, and she never mentioned anything about the pain. After a couple of minutes, I told her my decision. After 1 week, I was back in her clinic, enduring the tremendous pain inherent in having braces installed. I did it because I’ve always been bothered by the gaps between my teeth, not to mention my subtle overbite. But I did it mainly because I thought it would be cute. Yeah, dumb idea.

Debt Consolidation, Credit Score

Tuesday
Jun 19,2007

Hi folks, I recently had to go for a personal loan and I had great difficulty to prove my pay back capacity. The first and foremost thing the banks and financial institutions asked for is the credit report, I was so worried that I was told that the more and more credit reports seen by different financial institutions will result in the reduction of the credit score. For gaining a good credit score, I had gone through a lot of hardship and losing in no time was a nightmare for me. I was so confused that I browsed for information on credit scores and the facts related to it, to my surprise I found out that if the credit inquiries for a loan is made in a shorter span the system ignores how many ever inquiries made within a month prior to the day of the credit score computation. I also found that a credit score rating is unaffected if multiple inquiries are made within a 14 day period and it was considered as a single inquiry. Also I read lot of articles related to ways of getting free credit report, how to boost the credit score and also how to get a clean credit report and its importance while getting a loan etc. The website http://www.cashguru.info offers excellent info on getting a better credit score.
