My Wandering Mind

I just came back from the dead and I can’t believe it’s been 3 months since I last blog…

Well, my mind was just wandering around lately. I don’t see myself in the future the way I plan to be… The heck. What else can I say ‘living’ in this fucked up place.

And now I am complaining! Damn!

But the hell, I was dreaming too despite the fact most of the time my mind was wandering around… and I guess it’s worth posting. Just to keep myself reminded in the future that there was one time in my life that I have dreamed so much…

More wandering here…

A prestigious university in line with their commitment to be church for the poor give out scholarships. They are grateful for the opportunity to study. But they do feel like outcasts. They never get invited to the parties of their classmates. If you were in their shoes, what would you feel? What would you do?

A friend’s wife just took off yesterday – leaving a goodbye note for him and for each of her children, a 1-year old and a 5-month old.

The main reason? She could never give enough money to send to her parents and siblings back in the Philippines, so she, in her flawed logic, decided to leave in order to earn more money to send to her family back in the Philippines. Her overblown sense of duty, as well as her father’s demands, call for her to put both her siblings through school, pay off her father’s debt and support her parents in luxury, even when both her parents are gainfully employed and has good social and community standing in their town.

Recently I heard news that there is now a dress code when you want to attend a mass in a catholic church in the
Philippines right now. I was wondering what they are up to this time. The Catholic Church always surprises me when they making decision on rules and regulation especially when they say it was for the god of the people. Now I wonder why a dress code for people who wants to attend a mass. Is this a desperate measure coz young one now days wear spaghetti strap, tube dress, hanging blouse or sometimes miniskirt when attending mass. Or they envy other religion or catholic sect who is more formal when coming to church to attend mass. I see this act as a desperate measure coz the Catholic Church itself cannot discipline own followers mostly when it comes to dressing proper attire when attending mass. They always say god is everywhere so you can pray anywhere when you feel like to as so this is also apply to dressing want you want to attend a mass coz it’s not the dress or the place that matters. It’s how you pray to god that matters. The most precious thing of Catholicism teach me is you don’t have to wear fancy clothes and it doesn’t matter whether you pray or not as the bible say so but it’s always how you pray that matters. But now I see their ridiculous act again and again just as they always do when it comes to Philippine politics! Now tell me what is the role of the Philippine Catholic Church to our lives as its followers? Are they going to preach something about how we catholic wear our dress or what the government should or shouldn’t do in running the country or are they really to do something to save our soul from the grasp of the devil! Are they going to help us to find salvation or are they the one who would push us to seek the things we longing to see in other religion or in our own way!                   If there is really a god up there help us because we are all sinners down here even the one who is serving you or in front of you praying for everyone’s salvation! Shed light to their hearts and let them realize that it’s doesn’t matter how you dress but how you pray and how you live your life according to your teachings that is read on the bible. God bless……….

We have a poll (see upper right sidebar) on people’s opinion on the application for bail of Senator Antonio Trillanes. You may vote only once. Someone suggested to open the discussion because, as you can see from the poll, there’s no portion where you can explain your vote or post a comment. You may do that here (click here).

Here is an interesting study by a sociologist who specialized in studying the trend of Facebook and MySpace.

Very funny…

“The goodie two shoes, jocks, athletes, or other “good” kids are now going to Facebook.

“MySpace is still home for Latino/Hispanic teens, immigrant teens, “burnouts,” “alternative kids,” “art fags,” punks, emos, goths, gangstas, queer kids, and other kids who didn’t play into the dominant high school popularity paradigm.

Only In Dubai

[Disclaimer: This actually inspired me to sporadically write things that are uniquely Dubai. Although these things should not ('cause I do not intend it to be so) reflect the entire populace of Dubai, or the entirety of Dubai itself, as dumb. My sporadic writing of said things (things that I saw, read, overheard, people that I met, etc.) is only meant to share what I thought is uniquely Dubai. No harm whatsoever is intended to the place I consider "my second home" in writing this.]

Facts most Filipinos hardly know

Do you know what happened to the treasury of the Malolos Republic? Here’s the story:

“The Philippine Republic of 1898 had a functioning fiscal system that supported the raising and equipping of the army and navy and provided for expenditures of the various government functions like foreign affairs, interior, public instructions, communications and public works and agriculture, industry and commerce.

According to Leandro H. Fernandez (Fernandez, 165), the 1899 budget of the republic was Mexican dollars $6.3 million, of which $4.0 million were receipts from war tax levied on all persons eighteen years old and above, and the rest came from receipts from direct taxes and custom duties, $1.0 million, indirect taxes, $0.5, and special taxes, $0.8 million. A special fund was also raised from a national loan denominated in Series A and B bonds, which yielded $0.3 million.

It is not known how much money was left in the treasury at the time American troops overran the penultimate Filipino capital of Tarlac in November, 1899. What is known are accounts of Aguinaldo’s effort to hide the money which eventually fell into the hands of American troops.

First off is Actress cameron Diaz who got harsh words from some Peruvian citizens over her use of “an olive green messenger bag emblazoned with a red star and the words ‘Serve the People’ printed in Chinese on the flap.”

“Serve the People” or STP, as Filipino militant activists would say, is one of Mao Zedong’s most popular slogans.

Apparently, a bunch of conservative Peruvians took notice of the movie star’s bag while she was exploring the Inca city of Machu Picchu in the Andes highlands.

Free tickets to Virgin Labfest

Theater companies usually offer us free tickets to watch their shows–two tickets at the most. Beyond that, I consider it an obligation to offer to pay, since theater in the Philippines hardly makes any money as it is, and what more if they have to deal with freeloaders. Yep, I have no problem paying for my own tickets, much as I did for many years before I earned the right to my own Press ID.

For the Virgin Labfest, I was offered the usual free pass to all the shows. But I had a different arrangement in mind. I told them I’d pay for the P200 tickets to each of the shows–but could they give the free ticket instead to interested bloggers through this site? They said yes.
