Why Filipinos are not a patriotic people

“McKinley had to misrepresent to the American people that the war was being waged only by what he called the Tagalog tribe, and that the several other tribes were willing to accept American authority. He had to keep the American public hold on to the misconception that the Filipinos were savages and unfit to govern themselves, and justify his intrusion into their purely domestic affairs. Accordingly, the American generals were put under severe pressure to end the war soonest because the American public might soon ask why a small savage tribe is able to resist the most powerful army in the world with 120,000 men serving at one time or another? And it was at this point that all rules of civilized warfare was thrown aside and strict press censorship was enforced. ”

for the longest time ever, i always find myself with one gadget or another that i definitely cannot live without… back in college, all that i ever needed for school was my scientifc calculator… all the calculations that i need to do for my BS in Geodetic Engineering classes can be done by this small calculator, and my notes, if ever i need to jot them down, are in small pieces of paper borrowed/stolen from classmates and can be found in the nook and crannies of that calculator… it’s sort of a personal digital assistant [PDA], or at least, close to it…

"Blog to express, not to impress" My super duper long interview with Annalyn Jusay of local broadsheet Manila Bulletin for her weekly column Blog-O-Rama was published yesterday. It was prompted by my win for the Personal Category in the recently concluded 2007 Philippine Blog Awards. Who would have thought, right?

Anyway, the online version of the interview seems to be not available yet, and because the USB connector of the scanner is nowhere to be found (as usual), I just took a picture of the page instead of scanning it. And I’ll just post a written transcript. If you think it’s long, think again. It’s not even everything, if you know what I mean, hehe. I really have this tendency to either digress or blabber endlessly.

Aside: I sound so horny phony in this interview. Probably because I am, haha!

“We ask you this through Christ our Lord, amen.”

Time for First Reading. The boy, shy and nervous, walks towards the lectern. It’s his first time to do the reading, a task he’d avoid at any cost if he could. But there is no way around it. As a junior in this high school seminary, he and his classmates have to take their turn on the lectern, before a mass of other boys ready to jeer, heckle and remember any fumble he’d make for years to come. Freshmen and sophomores act as acolytes during daily mass, juniors and seniors serve as readers. None gets a pass, and now it’s his turn.

You can open a PayPal account but still cannot receive PayPal funds. How sad. But don’t sulk, ‘cos there’s still a way to accept funds even if you are from a limited, send-only PayPal country like the Philippines and, yes, even if you don’t have a PayPal account.

Details of the ways to receive PayPal payments in the article “How to receive PayPal in the Philippines” from PinoyMoneyTalk.com. If you need to open a Xoom account, click HERE.
