Facts Filipinos hardly know

“The fighting turned brutal, sometimes gruesome, fueled mainly by racist contempt – a colored race had no right to stand up before a supposedly superior white race. According to Boutwell, one pretext for the war, has been the assertion that the Filipinos were uncivilized, and, therefore, that they were not entitled to consideration (Willis, 250). The Filipinos were called niggers, gugus, khakias and ladrones. As the war dragged on American loathing of Filipinos amplified to higher levels. One author described the conflict as a war of extermination because it was characterized by the slaughter of women and children ‘… the Americans burning and devastating all before them … and shooting every Filipino’ (Valentine, 18). ”

…This story broke today and serves as a cautionary message about being careful whom — and what — you email.

There are 8 Testament that is suppose to be abided by all living life in the South Jungle. Alas, the opposite are done here for survival sake.

The Story: I’m just satisfied and not blown away. I’m also mildly irritated since they say the first Superman movie is a pseudo-prologue of this movie. That’s a confusing statement. I just wish they didn’t say that and instead, started from scratch like Batman Begins. They could’ve still paid homage to Richard Donner’s movie by putting in sly nods to it, instead of dwelling on it too much. And the kid! The goddamn kid. Don’t get me wrong, the kid’s a nice addition to the mythos, and a great source of drama for the characters, but it just feels so wrong. And I’d like to hear Bryan Singer explain how the hell did it exactly happen. You do not tug on Superman’s cape, and you do not give him a bastard son!

Read more…

The sun is burning hot and I am still burning out. It’s true, I spent almost all of my weekend with my friends on a road trip to the beach. That was a sort-of belated and advanced birthday celebrations for 2 of my friends. It was such a welcome change in my routine and my environment.

It was, indeed, an exhausting day for most of these young participants during the Aliwan Festival held in Manila last Saturday. Nonetheless, they all pitched in their best efforts to turn this into one colorful and successful event.

On Family

How important is family to you?

Filipinos always pride themselves for having tight family values but sometimes I can’t help but think when to draw the line. Parents are responsible for their children until they reach the legal age of 18 years old in most countries. After this, the child should be able to find means and ways to support himself.

The recent dearth of posts in my blog might lead you, faithful readers, to think that I am having a dry spell. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, these past few weeks have so far been my most creative since the year started. I’m actually sh*tting thunderbolts of ideas from my puckered little a*shole on a daily basis and perfectly sane people strangely deem it worth a tidy sum of money. Not a whole lot at this point, of course (the big bucks will come from writing actual scripts), but enough to be disgusting for people who value real manly work. Like hauling rocks and sh*t. While I respect manly work, let me just say that I am of a wholly different persuasion. I want to be paid for not using my God-given muscles. I want to be paid for brainfarting words and ideas.

BRAINFARTS HERE, HOMBRES!

I don’t care how much that TV is worth as long as it could flush out all the crap out of my daily viewing pleasure then that is seriously worth all the slave corporate wage money can buy (It’ll probably take me a year to buy that). But what the heckkkkk! I’m turning bolemic on these political TV ads that I wanna puke everytime I hear Yorgay’s “Tara Lets” inspired theme song or Six Cycle Mind’s “Pro Pinoy” (a.k.a. The Peachy Song).

C’mon Mr. Hotel-Hostage-Taker! Jamby Madrigal?! We all know Juday won the 2004 elections! Jamby didn’t win in the 2001 elections that’s why she had to buy Juday.

My advice:
Ask Jamby to lend you Juday.

Beat the heat with Icebergs

The hot summer heat has been beating down on us since the season started. It appears to be getting hotter as the days and weeks go by.

Most days, my husband and I cannot even take staying at home because even with the airconditioner turned on, the humidity seeps in through the walls and windows of our house. And it just isn’t practical to have it turned on 24-hours a day.

Times like these, a trip to Iceberg’s is a sure treat. And what do you know, we found ourselves going over to metrowalk during the Blogger’s SEB and took the opportunity to go to Icebergs and have us some nice cold desserts.

I ordered some Kahlua sundae and boy did it feel good to have the ice cold cream slide down my throat.

I have always loved Icebergs and often bought their Mais Con Hielo. Its great that they have expanded and now have several branches spread across the metro.

Like today – the heat is getting to me. I think I should stride over there to cool off otherwise I think I will explode.

Spiderman 3 Review

Well, because I made a promise and my son can’t wait for another day, and since I also hate crowded places, I made reservation for the first screening of Spiderman 3.

The movie is about the choices we make, forgiveness, friendship and self control. I took this opportunity to drive the message across to my son’s young mind. Depending on how you will use the opportunity presented, this can be a value adding experience for the whole family. Let me give you a hint– one of the main characters will die on this movie.

If you can’t wait to see the movie and you happen to be in the Philippines, contact these numbers and get your reservation at any theaters of SM Cinema near your place or IMAX Theatre to enjoy 2D experience (large screen format only).

…NOT! This one’s an alternate version of Spider-Man, also called as Iron Spider Armor or Steel Spider.

So does this mean that I’m a Spider-Man fan? Maybe not but I was able to watch Spider-Man 3 in its first day of showing at The Block’s Cinema 2 (thanks to a friend for reserving tickets the night before, haha).

GETTING READY FOR SUMMER

Tuesday
May 1,2007

Although Summer won’t offically be here until later in June, the temperatures this past weekend were high enough to remind me of what I’m not looking forward to. Still it was perfect weather to attend this year’s Spring Garden Show at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa — warm but ever-so-slightly breezy, with a bit of a chill at night.

The gains made last March by the Top 50 Pinoy Top Blogs (PTB) were sustained in April. Total unique hits (UH) and this month’s hits (TMH) increased slightly, while the UH of the fiftieth blog remained a five-digit figure, which seems to confirm that from now on a Top 50 blog must have at least 10,000 UH per month to make it to the list.
