Friendship

Friday
Mar 30,2007

Friendship, defined from Webster’s Dictionary as, the state of being friends, or a friendly feeling. Friends, on the other hand, are defined as people whom one knows well and is fond of. The second definition states a friend as an ally, supporter, or sympathizer.

My personal definition of what friendship is, is a feeling or emotion expressed in such a way that another feels wanted and important, a relationship between a person or persons where everyone has some companion to talk to when their in need of one. I would define friends as people whom you can have several types of relations with and feel several emotions for that person. Someone that one might go to in time of need.

There are many different friendships that people have. Friendships can exist between best friends, friends, lovers, children, parents, siblings, and many more. All of these differ in some way.

We left YVR (Vancouver International Airport) via Alaska Airlines. My boss got us an econo class plane ticket, but upgraded it to 1st class with an additional $50 per passenger. Alaska Airlines has this promo that if you arrive and check-in 3 hours prior to the flight an upgrade can be done if there are seats available. Its a good deal because 1st class tickets will be around $400-$500 and you will only add $50 to your econo tickets which is around $150-$250.

Midnight Caller

Friday
Mar 30,2007

My sleep has been continually disrupted by the phone ringing in the last couple of weeks. For several nights now, my phone has been ringing at the ungodly hour of 2:00 am. The ringtone indicates to me that the caller ID is unavailable or unknown, so I would just slip back into my morphean state with no hesitation.

1-2-3: Homeless Supercat

Friday
Mar 30,2007

Shelter life sure isn’t easy. But 1-2-3, one of the PARC cat residents, has shown amazing resilience that I have not seen in any other cats at the shelter in the 1 or so year that I’ve been going there. He’s a magnificent representative of the native Pinoy cat. I’ve never seen him having health problems, mild or otherwise, besides those occasional swat scratches that you’d expect in a multi-cat environment.

The bad news, though, is that he’s the longest-staying cat at the shelter…

Low Mortgage

A mortgage is a method of using property (real or personal) as security for the payment of a debt.

The term mortgage refers to the legal device used in securing the property, but it is also commonly used to refer to the debt

secured by the mortgage, the mortgage loan.

In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans secured on real estate rather than other property and in

some cases only land may be mortgaged. Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and

businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately.

See

mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property.

In many countries it is normal for home purchases to be funded by a mortgage. Here the Sharon Martgage helps you to save your

money We make the process of securing a mortgage simple by offering you the latest in financial tools that enable you to make

Happy Slip

YouTube Video Award has announced the winners and is now officially closed. The surprising thing about the result is Smosh Short 2: Stranded won. How can this overrated emo turned slacker shtick could have won for Best Comedy is beyond me. Aconover’s Ben takes a photo of himself everyday, DCLugi’s Help Wanted and Happy Slip’s Mixed Nuts is not even in the same league as Stranded. There are also dozens of Youtube clips which are not nominated in the category that is better than Stranded. Rob Paravonian’s Pachebel Rant for example made me laugh, Stranded did not.

I so regret that I missed my opportunity to eat Pinoy breakfast when I was in Manila. I was just not thinking about it. I should have had my share of tapsilog ( beef tapa, fried rice, and eggs) when I had the chance. Instead, I ate all the pork I could have and had a piece of heaven eating bangus and tilapia!

Boycott One Morning On IBC, NBN, RPN

Why boycott One Morning on IBC, NBN, RPN? Because watching co-host Veronica Baluyot will corrupt your children.

The decision to include Veronica Baluyot in its newest morning program is very disheartening news for viewers who expect truth and honesty in their journalists. While undoubtedly Veronica Baluyot has the experience, we question her morals. It has long been known that she has had countless affairs that she herself pursued and instigated. Her claims that she is “happily” married to Mr. Lito Jiminez and that she is devoted to her children is a complete lie. If Veronica Baluyot was indeed devoted to her family, why then the affairs? She is a hypocrite and liar. How do you expect your audiences to trust in her delivering news and interviewing top political personalities. She only adds to the current perception that ALL government-run television deliver propaganda meant to make everyone feel great while hiding something nefarious.

Veronica Baluyot symbolizes the bacteria on supposedly clean walls that the Filipino feel is their government. To keep her on air is an attack on morality. The women knows what she has done and hides it well. She is making idiots out of all of you who bend to her. She is very unwatchable to the rest of us. She is a blemish on government TV and you are basically killing any chances One Morning has. Ask her if she has never cheated on her husband.

Weekly Haul #7: Movements

Thursday
Mar 29,2007

Ahh. Do you smell that? The smell of change. Of development. Of movement. And it’s all around me. And I love it with all my constantly-in-flux heart.

Several of my brethren in UPLB MASS are graduating in a few weeks’ time. A cause for celebration and intoxication, which will start next week when we’ll invade Ilocos for a good ol’ fashioned summer out-of-town beachfest. Road Trip!

Another cause for celebration is the end of my probationary period in my current job. Yes, ladies and gentlefreaks, I am now regularized. And with this change in my employment status comes a few more changes in responsibilities and nature of tasks. I can’t wait.

Finally, the recent transformation of my social life from “totally non-existent” to “Holy shit, what day is it?! I’m drunk again! Yeah!” is requiring me to cut back on my comic book consumption and focus more on accumulating loads of cash for my beer fund. Priorities, priorities.

It’s just so refreshing to see things moving again.

And with that sentimental crap over, I now present to you this week’s haul. SPOILERS blah blah.

Manila Hostage Drama

I was in the office when I received an email about the hostage taking in Manila. I Followed the link at CNN and discovered it was just across the street from where wifey is working. I gave her a call and she confirmed the hostage taking. I almost rushed to her but she assured me that everything is peaceful in the area sans the resulting traffic.

Mom named me Noel

Thursday
Mar 29,2007

Mom named me Noel because I was born ’roundabouts Christmas. However, there’s some debate concerning how the name should be pronounced. Some say “nohl”, some “no-whll”. In any case, I would say that my name should not be pronounced “no-elle“, as this is a girl’s name, and I’m a guy.

Since it means “Christmas”, I have kind of a seasonal name. Am I Christmas-y all year round? Do I wear green and red all the time and wear a parole around my neck? Nope. I’m more of a Groundhog’s Day kinda guy (With a little American Thanksgiving sprinkled on top, and a dash of Easter. Maybe some Valentine’s Day thrown in…) Like a groundhog, I pop my head out once in a while to see what’s going on, and continue doing my own thing. (And I’m brown-colored)

That’s it. Ako si Noel. Basta yun lang. nicetameecha.

Cris Pablo, indie pioneer

Thursday
Mar 29,2007

A year before Cinemalaya and its breakout “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” made indie cinema a byword, there was Cris Pablo. From out of nowhere, with virtually no publicity and no name actors, he pulled off something next to impossible with his debut film, “Duda (Doubt)”: a blockbuster. His gay-themed indie movie was shown at SM Megamall to long lines of people curious about a small film that drew its buzz mainly from the grapevine.

I didn’t see “Duda,” though some friends did, and they didn’t like it. The Inquirer’s Constantino Tejero, however, a hardcore cinephile who wouldn’t suffer any lousy movie, surprisingly had something good to say about it. That was enough motivation for me to catch Pablo’s next feature, “Bathhouse,” which ran in Robinson’s Galleria in January 2005.

Small talk is the pits

Mar 29,2007

You want to annoy me? Kill me with small talk. But not just simple small talk. Make sure we’re not friends, we’re not even acquaintances, then chat me up with me. Pay attention to my body language; check that my entire body is turned at least 45 degrees away from you then strike up a conversation. Listen to my monosyllabic curt answers but ask stupid follow-up questions as though we’re BFFs. Take a look at our pseudo conversation from an outsider’s point of view and notice how initiating small talk with me has remarkable resemblance to a man trying to have sex with a corpse.

Hostage crisis or political ploy?

Thursday
Mar 29,2007

Yesterday, March 27, 2007, a man held 26 people hostage in a bus at the Manila City Hall. The hostage taker, Armando Ducat Jr. took his own students hostage on the way to a field trip to Tagaytay they said. Although he released his hostages after 10 hours. It made me think, is this really a hostage crisis or just a political ploy to get more mileage out of the coming election?
