Alston criticized the Armed Forces of the Philippines for being in a “state of almost total denial” of the involvement of its members in the killings. He reprimanded AFP chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. for taking the word of retired Army Major Gen. Jovito Palparan, tagged as “The Butcher” by human rights groups, over the testimonies of witnesses and families of victims.
But candidates should not ignore the power of internet. Online campaigning can actually complement traditional election tactics. This may not decisively influence the outcome of elections today but it can be an effective tool for campaigning.

Ian Murdock founder of the Debian Linux distribution was invited by Microsoft on February 20 to talk about, well, the Debian Linux distribution… what else??
What if humans can hibernate? Imagine just sleeping like 2 or 3 months off and then waking up and going back to the usual routine. Wouldn’t that be great?!
Last night, as I was logged in to my Friendster account, I viewed my cousin’s profile after accepting his request to add him as a friend. As soon as his profile loaded, a small dialog box with the word “american” in it popped up. I checked his profile and at the bottom I saw that his layout was a custom layout provided by a particular site. I know that most of these custom layouts contain questionable and malicious codes or javascripts.

The hair was originally to be auctioned on eBay, but the listing was taken down.

I don’t get it, what makes someone who is popular in the Philippines suddenly get the “calling” to run for politics? Just because you’re the “Kamao nang Bayan” doesn’t mean you are the saviour of the people.
And what’s this with Cesar Montano running for the senate? What on earth is up with that? I read on the news that he is even taking a crash course in public service to learn how to become a public official.
WTF?!? How do you learn how to draft a law in a few months? Lawyers takes at least 6 years plus a bar exam to even understand the law. But a few months and you want to run for the senate? Holy Guacamoli!
You know what?
We’re never really as important as we would like to believe.

My introspective Valentine post might have given the impression that I spent the dang day mopin’ and dopin’. No such thing. While everyone else was clogging Manila’s restaurants, malls and motels that evening, I was in fact with a group of friends who thought that Valentine love also extended to friends and buddies, whether of the committed or uncommitted kind.
There were 10 of us in that dinner–8 guys and 2 girls. I myself had no idea how the event would turn out. The invitation just came: dinner at a friend’s place, but with a difference. This time, the food would be catered, there’d be linen, flowers and candles, it’d be a sit-down affair, and we were all to come in white. You can picture me cracking up when I first heard of it. E anliit ‘ata ng unit ni Chris for a sit-down dinner, I said. But the real reason was, I’d never gotten the hang of stodgy dinner affairs with gleaming cutlery, dainty (and often bland) food servings, all that fancy stuff. Prim and proper is not my ideal mode for meals; relaxed and casual is.

How do you determine where to go for your holiday? Do you choose a place and then your budget or do you have a budget then choose the place that fits it? Would you prefer saving up on the travel expenses to have good accommodation or the other way around? Do you mind going to a place twice or thrice or would you rather discover a new one everytime?

For decades the Philippine movie industry has been graced by foreign “actors” who want to try their luck in local showbiz. In the 60′s you had John Saxon, who appeared as the token Caucasian in movies like El Pinoy Matador, a Dolphy movie shot entirely in Spain; and the Pinoy spaghetti western Sergio Leone take-offs starring Chiquito. In the 70′s you had Sajid Khan, an Indian looker who appeared in mindless romantic comedies with Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos. His career in the Philippines didn’t last long because Filipinos are inherently racist and not very keen on actors who have dark skin. He was displaced in the public’s affections by Junior the American singer.
In the 80′s you had Tom Babauta, whose talent hung delicately on his cheekbones, triceps and his “big kahuna.”

When the search engine giant Google announced that it would implement the rel="nofollow" directive on its crawlers, most people had hopes it would be the end of comment spam, most especially when search competitors Yahoo! and MSN expressed support for the microformat as well. But, has this initiative from Google done its job?

Yesterday, I watched Unang Hirit interview Cesar Montano to ask him about his decision to run for Senator under the Administration party – Team Unity.
If the interview was not at all related to politics you would even be slightly interested and amused and might feel like you were listening to a showbiz segment. However, it was related to politics and there was nothing amusing in it.
The alarm went on at around 4:45am and I had this feeling of not going to stand up from bed. I just hugged my son while feeding him. I look at my 9-month old daugther while she was sound asleep. She seem very peaceful sleeping and that seem to start a very good day for me.
Every year, the fair is the bright light that seduces the UPLB Alumni moths, and its last night is when the light shines brightest. Everybody from anywhere who used to be a part of UPLB comes home during the last night of the fair and immerses themselves in the familiar warmth of the UPLB atmosphere. Everybody comes home to old acquaintances, new drinking buddies, friends, and family. Everybody comes home to the magic of that little town at the foot of a mountain. Everybody comes home to the grass and the stars.
