Milenyo fucked up the airport too

As i was driving to the domestic airport at 2AM this morning, i noticed how irregular the power interruption all over the metro was. Most parts of EDSA, from Munoz to Pasay City (and most especially Makati) were dark as hell. I had to reduce my speed since i so desperately wanted to get to our province in one whole piece. I also wanted to see the toppled billboards, but alas, it was too dark to see anything.

Honor thy father

This comes about a week late, but good things don’t die, and certainly not this one.

Last Monday (Sept. 25) in the Philippine Star, Butch Dalisay wrote a beautiful tribute to his late father. In my book it’s a masterpiece, not only because of its flawless language (you’d expect that from a Palanca Hall of Famer like Mr. Dalisay), but because it’s written with so much love and heart and grace. I’m not embarrassed to admit that by the end of the piece I was in tears, and had resolved to myself that, in time when I myself am summoned to honor my loved ones in a public way, the words I’d cobble together would be equal to the task.

PLUS: In 1998 when my one surviving lolo died, I remembered him with a short piece. Read it here.

MILLENIUM DISASTER!

Typhoon Milenyo wrecked the apartment 36 hours ago. Meralco continued it.

2 hours ago:

I went to Robinson’s Ermita to get some candles for the apartment since it has been two consecutive nights of blackout. Due to water conservation, I had dinner at KFC accompanied with a cardio book brushing on my readings on the effects of Lidocaine and Amiodarone on tachyarrhythmias. Robinson’s was humid and hot inside, their airconditioning system was blowing warm stale air. My face was wet with sweat as I ate my dinner. While doing so, I cursed Meralco that all their callcenter employees and repair crew shall contract venereal diseases in the next week.

4 hours ago:

Nana banged on my door in sheer panic. When asked what was troubling her, she hurriedly told me she needed to buy ice. she did and when she came back, we hauled all our meat goods and perishables from the fridge and placed them into styrofoam ice boxes. I don’t know how long the ice will last but I hope it will keep the goods fresh till the next day. I called Meralco earlier and accosted their call center whether the company will reimburse me for the value of my spoiled goods. Knowing that Meralco employs lemmings to take in calls, I got the usual pre-fabricated answer. They do not know when the power will be restored, they couldn’t coordinate or even expedite the rescue crews or even verify if they are indeed on the field and not eating hopia all day long.

First thing to consider when chosing a DSL provider, check their customer service. Make sure that when there’s a problem, you can call them up and someone is answering the phone call. Unlike other DSL provider, “mapudpod na ang kamay mo sa kakadial or tenga mo mainit na - wala pa din sumasagot”

Better Late than Dead

I have this one recurring habit that I can never get rid of since when I was a kid. I know it’s so darn evil and it almost caused me my job and my relationships but I somehow managed to unintentionally create excuses for me to continue doing it. No, it’s not my excessive eating nor my fixation to porn. It’s this lame habit of coming to work (or any appointment at that) 3 to 5 minutes after the arranged schedule.

So I’m not late all the time. On most instances I arrive right on the dot, panting like a dog and literally feeling my heart beating in my eye lids. Blame it on my poor time management, because I do not believe in such. I know I’ve been one hell of a procrastinator, but instead of finding ways on how to stay away from being one, what I came up with were lame excuses which include the following:

You say you want more?

3 Little Kings

I think I’ve mentioned them many times before, but I haven’t really posted much about them. So while I tinker with the letters on my keyboard, they’re currently taking bath at the bathroom around 2 meters from me, haha! Presenting, my uber cutsy nephews!

Movie Review: First Day High

Starring: Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Maja Salvador, Geoff Eigenmann, Jason Abalos

I am doing this as a public service so that you will know what you’re getting into the moment you decide to buy a ticket and watch this film. And for those who don’t plan to watch because of the common notion that most Pinoy films suck but just want to know what this movie is all about, then this entry might be of help.

The film has the potential to be acceptable to people with average tastes, but the execution was way too poor that I doubt it would be. Here are my observations:

On duty 24/7

If you have an energetic 3-year old and a colicky baby in the equation, it is easy to imagine that the end of the day can lead to frayed tempers, stress and disappointment.

I can understand that you are tired after work.

to be young, thin and wild

When we were growing up, all three of my siblings were chubby and did everything that my parents told them; whereas I was stick thin and never did listen to their orders (IMHO, pinoy parents give orders instead of advices). Now, everyone in the family has, at some point, described me as “the girl who used to be thin” and “the one who used to be wild”.
