Soul Searching by Urbandub part 1

The song I’m breaking down today is that very song: Soul Searching. I thought it was in a different time signature at first, until I listened closer and was able to separate the bass and drum parts. The song may or may not be a different time signature, but riffs, once isolated, would almost always fit in a “one and a two and a three and a four” count…

Current statistics say that about 60% of Filipino men smoke and more than half of Filipino households are not smoke-free. As many as 40% of Filipino adolescent boys smoke and mostly began in their teens. Every year, there are about 20,000 smoking-related deaths in the country. Many vendors of cigarettes are children. Sadly, there are no laws prohibiting minors from buying or selling cigarettes.

Effects of Smoking:

Cardiovascular Diseases: Recent statistical studies say that smoking is the most prevalent risk factor of cardiovascular diseases including heart attack and stroke among Filipinos.

Compassion

Tuesday
Aug 1,2006

Being in a state university, with inadequacy of state-of-the-art facilities, we are trained to be as compassionate as possible to our patient. The term encompasses the quality of care we should give to our patients when we’re already doctors and the inexpensive approach with regards to treatment. They’ve been inculcating in our minds that we should think of our patients first before we think of our pockets. And I think, they have been successful because of the good feedbacks to most of our graduates.

The New Girl

Tuesday
Aug 1,2006

When I arrived at the boxing gym today, a girl I’d never seen before was in the ring, shadowing. She seemed to be in great shape and knew what she was doing.

I jumped rope a couple rounds, then hopped in the ring to work on maneuvering. The new girl was on the heavy bag. She looked good there, too.

When Life and Beliefs Collide

“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Luke 22:42
In 1986 I was a 21 year old college student graduating from a Jesuit University. For some reason, I had chosen to have this passage immortalized in my college yearbook. I had known loss very early in life when at 16 I suddenly lost my father to a heart attack.

Little was I to know back then, that the words would come alive for me once more a dozen years later when it would be my four year old son’s time to go back to his real home.

ALIVE!

dear kuya,

A lot of addicts out there are now looking forward on defeating each others website in order to get above in papa Google’s SERPs because of isulong seoph.

The famous search engine has been dropping my site several times and doesn’t even tell me why…maybe I should take my words before that I’ll give them 75% of the purse if I win.

And now, back to the real problem! I really want to be on top of the SERP for the query isulong seoph and can somebody in this world tell me how to do that? Nuh, I bet nobody will do coz they’re all busy with their own campaigns so I better start doing something on my own.

Well, that’s in the United Kingdom, I wonder what are the figures are here in the Philippines? Then again more questions pop in my mind like, “How many Filipino kids have access to computers?” “How young are those Filipino kids?” “What do they do with the computer or have they experienced the internet already?” “Do they use Windows or Mac? Have they ever seen nor used Linux before?” “Do they become smarter or perform better than others?” These are just some questions racing in my mind regarding the subject of children and computers.

Manila Street Vendors

Tuesday

Sampaguita Garland Vendor
The sampaguita garland vendor: She once aspired to conquer Tokyo by entertaining a flock of Japanese power brokers, but her extremely possessive husband refused to let her go. Even now when she’s working, he’d sneakily check up on her.

I took some pictures of street vendors as my initial attempt in photo blogging. Sidney was right! All one has to do is ask for people’s permission first before shooting away like mad. I was happy that those I asked gladly consented; without so much as obliging me to buy anything beforehand.

Indeed, with those high price tags attached to legal and licensed copies of Microsoft Office, cafe owners would definitely seek out alternatives and most the most common practice is to use illegal or ‘pirated’ copies of the proprietary office suite from Microsoft which has become the so-called industry standard. Since one could buy illegal or ‘pirated’ copis of MS Office for just under Php200.00 ($3.64 using the current exchange rate), it’s a no-brainer why most internet cafes have shied away from the legal and licensed copies of MS Office.

But there’s an alternative to MS Office, and it’s absolutely FREE, legal to use and even share!

…I had spent half of my life as a highly social creature, meeting all kinds of people in all types of places. I was like Kevin Bacon, connected to almost anybody within six degrees of separation. I had a bounty of dating experiences and relationships which, thankfully, had mostly evolved into healthy friendships. For instance, when I moved from North Hollywood to West LA one year, my moving crew consisted of my boyfriend Allen and three exes. When I look back, the situation was truly comical even if I didn’t think so then — while the three in my past were bonding over their memories of my belongings, I would repeatedly hush them up with my deadly stink-eye, hoping that Allen wouldn’t discover their single common denominator.
