Pissing Matches

Wednesday
Jul 26,2006

I’ve come across a few people who love to have pissing matches. A fierce need (a.k.a. insecurity) to display their supposed mental prowess probably drives them to always show off their acquired knowledge. They will argue points that you’re not arguing with them about, and they will play devil’s advocate to any issue discussed disregarding whatever personal experience you have had about the subject matter. They want to convince you that your experience was somehow faulty, or just plain imagined – because really now, they know better.

And speaking of music, whores and very bad decisions, it’s a sad day when even MADONNA needs to crucify herself to get some attention. I had no clue she intended to do it on tour, but when I saw her website, I was like, wo-oh, she’s run out of ideas now!

Oh, and my sister tells me JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’s been off admitting using drugs and things that should make him tough and shit so people would buy his album and actually forget he’s a white boy from a boyband just because he uses drugs and hangs out way too much with SNOOP.

I swear to god, there will come a day when they’d have to show us their intestines wrapped around a cat they’re trying to strangulate for a pagan ritual that may spell the end of our world as we know it to get our attention. Or ride a real-life unicorn-dragon. With faeries. And an asteroid. With BRUCE WILLIS on it.

I don’t want to miss a thee-haaang!

Whether we realize it or not, this acquisition is bound to change computing as we know it, as well as dramatically alter the landscape of personal computing, both from a technological, as well as a commercial point of view.

I have shivers just thinking about it.

A little medical history

Tuesday
Jul 25,2006

For those still in the dark, it all started last Tuesday night when I went to bed early because I was not feeling well. I had a slight fever back then and there were more than a dozen of times I tried to sneeze but failed. Sneezing is a sign that my body is fighting infection and if I do sneeze, it’s good because the foreign invaders -viruses, bacteria and other microbes are being ejected out of my body at more than 70 miles/hour (the average speed of a human sneeze). Unfortunately, since all my attempts to sneeze failed, it meant that my first-line of body defenses failed and that the microbes have gotten inside my system. It’s time for all out bio-war.

Initiation, Part 2

Tuesday

Frowning, she looked at my driver’s license, then up at me, then back at my license.

“It really doesn’t look like you,” the girl checking my ID said. It’s not a surprising reaction. Since I quit Big J’s group last year, people have been commenting on how different I now look. Thinner, happier, healthier.

“It’s me. I’ve lost weight and got contact lenses,” I assured her. To be honest, I was quite flattered. At 26, it’s nice to be carded.

She studied my license a bit longer before letting me in.

I wonder

Do you find yourself wondering what people really think of you? I doubt that anyone will ever know for sure how people see himself or herself, though, thanks to these little things called “politeness” or even “being plastic.” But if it’s true that first impressions do last, then that sucks. Admit it, you don’t always make a good initial impression. Or even if you do, it’s not always the impact that you’re going for. There are days that sometimes, you just don’t want people to think you’re a nice person.

Stairs leading towards the Khiem Cung Gate

Still part of Hue’s UNESCO sites are the numerous Royal Tombs scattered along its area. Most of these are form the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) which is the last of Vietnam’s Royal families. There were 13 kings then but for some reasons there were only 7 royal tombs constructed on the hilly regions just south of the Imperial Citadel. In order to access to these tombs, you can hire a scooter or a motorcycle to drive you in each tomb, most popular though are the Dragon Boats which will cruise you along the Perfume River. Dragon boats, which are the leisurely way to travel, cost about $3 USD per pax for a whole day including lunch. Downside here is once you docked on different points; you still have to hire a xe om (scooter) to take you to the tombs since. And you know you have to haggle for a really good price and a good price starts around $1 USD and in addition to that is the 55000 Dong in each of the tomb entrance. It takes a couple of days to see all the tombs. For us however, having only limited time, we were able to visit two tombs, via motorcycle (which we contracted for the duration of our trip).

The photograph featuring Fil-Australian model, Lani Pillinger, as the subject won 3rd place in the Apple of My i Photo Contest, which culminated last May 2006. Sona overdose

Tuesday
Jul 25,2006

There are two different ways to read the decision of the President to personally acknowledge her supporters in her Sona: First, it proves that Arroyo enjoys broad support, especially from local government units. She hopes to consolidate this support by outlining an economic program which intends to benefit the provinces instead of ‘imperial Manila.’ Second, Arroyo has too few supporters left that she can actually name them one by one inside the Batasan fortress.

One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.”

- Anne Morrow Lindbergh

There were many things I wanted to be when I was a child. Many possesions I want to have. Growing older, I find myself in a de-clutterring mode and getting rid of the non-essentials and the negatives. Climbing into my attic one day, I realized I had way too many things accumulated over the years. One by one, little by little, after much introspection, I gave them away to people whom I felt needed them more or who would benefit (more…)

Tula alay kay Gloria

Tuesday

Buti na lang at may dumating
na Wonder Gloria, ekonomistang
sa pamamahala ay dalubhasa.
Lubog na ekonomiya kanyang
iniangat, sambayanang baon sa
hirap, nakaramdam ng ginhawa.

Utang panlabas, nababayaran
fiscal crisis ay nalulunasan.
Pinataas ang sahod, bilihin ay
pinamura. Lahat ay may trabaho,
kaya’t ang pangingibang bayan
ay hindi na kinakailangan pa.
